AI aware of me?
Can the AI actually see me? cos it seems they can't. I see the AI braking to avoid hitting each other but they just seem to plough right thru me or barge me off the road as if I was not there.

Is this simple AI ignorance or am I not detected by them?
The AI isnt finished yet. Should be finished when S2 is finished as its only in alpha stage.
Im not sure if they can see you or not they do seem to try and avoid you but just not enough to actually avoid you.
they will avoid you a little but won't actually brake or change direction much to avoid you, it seems to work fine for long straights but for braking zones and corners they are 'concentrating' more on the manuver than the opposition,

basiccally they will avoid you but wont put themselves out at all to do it.
if you teach them to pass you.. then they wont ram you.. but that takes a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery long time to do (average of 70 laps)
I'm impressed with the fact that they learn, even if they start life a little stupid!

i THINK the once they've used a certain bit of track they are likely to use it again if they have to. i've been toying with them AI and they WILL learn to use more of the road when given an obstruction to avoid, such as a human opponent.

it would be nice to know what makes the AI 'tick'

ooh what an idea! what about having a random AI element that activly seeks to ram other players off the road and park right on a bend sometimes too, i just can't get enough of that wreckin' i want some offline action too
cause then we would have alot of people like chin chaw getting mad at LFS..

My irony meter just blew up.

Well, once I do that, I will share the files that the game stores the AI 'memory' in.
AI lacks balls / Confidence issues?
EDIT by Gunn: Two threads merged to help keep things neat and sparkly.

Hi,

My first posting on the LFS forums and just one to ask about the lack of balls shown by the AI drivers in standalone (single player) mode.

Classic example. Kyoto ring, oval. Set off a normal race with the AI set to pro, me with my FXO turb and a couple of AI Formula V8's. Anyway the AI racers rocketed off as expected but then seemed to "spook" themselves and lifted right off the gas after a couple of laps. Dropping their lap times down into the 48 / 49 sec region. Hardly much of a challenge. Tried again with two "different" AI racers and the same behaviour was exhibited. As it was I've had to run the AI racers on their own for a good 150 / 200 laps of the Kyoto oval for them to "regain their confidence" and they're now lapping consistently around the low 41 sec area and have no issues with slowness.

Have I missed something or is the computer supposed to start off acting like a learner driver, even on professional mode?

Cheers

B
'lacks balls'? a new feature in S2 is the female AI option. they're slower, more erratic and cant pit right. check around under misc and you'll see the tab for male or female AI
Yes the AI start as noobs, and they learn as they drive more. But the AI is still basic and unfinished, so don't expect much...
None of my AI never EVER pit. they just run outta gas and die (a UF1000 could win on a 40lap race vs FV8's). Still as far as I'm concerned the grade should be selected via newbie / learner / pro / etc. If I wanted n00bs I'd select newbie. Sorry to say it, but this is a pointless thing. It took ages to get their confidence up to make a race of it. Sorry, pointless, End of.

Cheers, B

Indeed but the "male" drivers lack bollocks too. Very little diffence in style, except that the "male" drives are marginally better at overtaking awfully slow backmarkers.
At the moment, there appears to be a bug where the AI's do not know how to deal with the extreme banking on the oval (compared to a usual road course). As it seems to me, the AI calculates the line to be taken and the proper speed for that line but ignores the banking. Think of the .smx files for example. You can't see any banking when viewing those files in a replay analyzer.

I have been training my AI for several weeks now concentrating on 5 of them and giving them all a different amount of time in each car. The two most experienced are becoming much cleaner at racing (but they are still too slow around the tracks at the moment). They will move to block you and they will use the draft to overtake. Even though the AI is not complete it is apparent that they are still learning and improving. They have no respect for each other though!
