Stalling car won't 'bump' in R
Example:

You shift from a forward gear, say 5th, into R.

This then locks the driven wheels and stalls the engine.

If you stall in a forward gear, if someone pushes you, or if you roll down a hill you can bump start it.

However, when stalled in R, the car can't be bumpstarted again without turning the ignition on again

It can. You have to be rolling back to bump start it in R gear, obviously

EDIT: Now, before you try to prove I'm wrong, here is the replay.

You misunderstand what I'm saying.

If you stall the car by stalling the engine, by putting it in reverse by going forward, and then try to bump whilst still travelling forward, it won't.

Well it won't if ur going forward and trying to clutch start in reverse, if some1 bumps you fro, front while ur in reverse then you will start providing ignition is still on....... I just clutch started in reverse, turning ignition of and on before clutching, and a few other combinations(while going backwards), work realisticly from my opinion! I can remember spinning at off at least a couple of places where i have lost it during a race and been able to clutch start my engine using reverse gear during or after a spin if i have had too because of stalling of the engine, you know, to try and save time stopping and turning ingition off then on again to get started and going!

Forward and backward don't mix! = BANG!

so...in your opinion, when the car is stalled with Reverse gear engaged, someone bumps into you from the back, so the car jumps in forward direction, the motor should bump start? You do relize even in theory if it will start working in that situation, it has to be rotating backwards, which obviously is impossible.

It will just stall again wont it? Because Reverse, Obviously Reverses the way it spins, so going forward with reverse ingaged will just stall again when you let the clutch out? ^o)
Ignore ;D

I was driving forwards.... I stalled the engine by shifting into R while going forwards........

Now, I shift back into a forward gear (While still rolling forward, wit the engine stalled) and can't seem to bump the car.

It's an LX4 with my drift setup, haven't tried another car/set, will try now.....

Edit :

Ok so it seems it's just my set/car/driving style... it's fine in every other car, my gears aren't even overly long.

Ok going to bang my head on the wall. Seems that, (since I've been up for 28 hours) I'm not thinking correctly, so ignore -_-

going to sleep..... doh!
You CAN bumpstart your car in reverse. even rolling is enough. just use the clutch.

Nobody said you can't, the car just needs to roll in the correct direction
Bumpstarting does work correctly in LFS, just make sure you're not using a too low gear or else the driven wheels might lock up instead of starting the engine.
i find it's a lot easier to start a stalled car going forward than it is in reverse. i got stuck on a hill in the UF-BR, put it in reverse, and eased the clutch in. the car stopped dead. and it was a big hill too, i would have thought there was enough momentum to start the car again. in the same car, i can start the engine on a very slight decline. not sure if that's car specific or not.
That's because the reverse is usually a very short gear that gives the engine much leverage, making it easy to lock up the wheels instead of cranking the engine.
