Hi, I want to OC my AMD X4 Phenom 9850 Black Edition, anyone has some good experiance with oc'ing these things? Plz let me now if you get some tips for me

I have a Black Edition X2 in my new PC and all you have to do is enter your Bios and manually adjust the multiplier - you do not have to touch voltages etc.

For any decent overclock you WILL need to adjust all sorts of things in your BIOS (including a lot of odd and poorly documented options).

I recommend that you read up on overclocking and answer your OWN questions - advice like that is no help when you find that your system won't post because you can't keep asking for help when your not sure what to do next (like Sun and coding...) - if you know what your doing you will be able to fix it yourself.

I honestly have no idea how to overclock a Phenom but i'd imagine it would all be about running the FSB as high as possible within the limits of the board, CPU & RAM while keeping the overall voltage high, and then playing with a myriad of settings to keep it stable when it's there...

You may need after market cooling depending on your goals, try and not use too much voltage if you can avoid it.

I'm not quite sure why anyone would go with a phenom at this point unless they already had an AM2+ mobo. I made the jump from a sempron to a wolfdale simply because there was nothing from AMD as strong p4p.

The whole point of the "Black Edition" is that the multiplier is unlocked and you don't have to adjust voltages etc unless you want a very high overclock.

For example i have an AMD Athlon X2 5000+ "Black Edition" and by simply pushing the multiplier up to 15, i can get a stable 3.0Ghz speed from 2.6Ghz without having touched anything else (Obvioulsy i have a big aftermarket cooler too).

But if i want to go past 3.0Ghz, then i would have to adjust voltages etc as the system will start to become unstable due to the multiplier being pushed up too high.

Then what's the point on OC'ing at all? It would be like me OC'ing from 2.13 to 2.4 GHz - sure, I could probably get away with just pumping up the FSB but with only about an hours tinkering I got 3.2 GHz out of it...

Depends what your after really, i am quite happy with an extra .4Ghz for nothing - if i really want to push it then yea i will tinker about!

Although the X2 are usless at massive overclocking - Intel has much better overclocking imho.

i have a Asus Crosshair board, Zalman CNPS 9500 cooler, 2 12cm fans in the back, 2 92mm's in the side and a 12cm in the front. pretty good for oc'ing me thinks
