Not another first car thread
I guess you can tell what this is about.

In the next month (well, October) i will be getting my own car. I just wanted to see if the community here could give me some opinions and suggestions on what car would be good to get. Clearly no one could tell me that without knowing my interests so il list down what i am kind of after with a car.

Firstly. My mum spoke with me and she would much rather me having a safer car when it comes to accidents. She doesnt want me in a 1979 ford cortina or anything like that, though i do . She said she will help me out with the car if i get a new car.

Budget wise, new car, absolute maximum $40,000 AUD is everything i will have. [ = 33,000USD. 22,000EURO. 18,000GB Pounds. 3,600,000Yen ]

Thats for a new car. I can look for a new car, or demo used from a dealer. Or i can go for something like i said earlier, a nice cheap cortiva, escort, corolla ke20 etc. and then modify it with a better engine etc.

Something slow may not catch my eye, weather thats stupid or not. I cant help it!

Im thinking of something that doesnt really munch up fuel. Aussie P drivers cant drive turbo, supercharged, v8+. I dont really want a small economical car either like a Yaris (Echo), Swift or something along those lines. Still being a teenager, i do like something that looks nice .

Safety to me isnt much of a concern, though the safer the better i guess.

At the same time, convertibles or cars that will smash my insurance is a no go.

I have been looking at the new Ford Falcon FG Ute. A tray may be needed if i start karting next year and if i cant approve my brothers ute to use on race days (his ute is a v8).

I know it all sounds abit picky, but i must admit, im a very picky guy. I said what i WANT and sounded as if i was demanding these things, but better give guidelines of what im after rather then people suggest and waste their time.

At the same time, im very open. If i see what i like, either its by the guidelines or not, il look twice (if you get what i mean, il be interested).

I appreciate it alot if people where to help me out abit. If people are actually interested in helping out and want more of a idea of what interests me, ill be happy to help out. After all, your taking time to post a comment.

Either way, thanks alot!
get a Honda civic, join Rize boyz club, pimp it their style and go riding it round town 20mph looking for hot girlz
Some may pretty much guess the type of car I would suggest...

But I would definitely get a MK2 Escort, 2.0 Pinto with mild tuned head and twin carbs. Or maybe even Zetec... But if you're after fuel economy, then maybe better would be ITBs with Megasquirt or some other good injection system and get it tuned on dyno properly.

Or mk1 Cortina... Or mk1 Escy... Or some other. Dunno what is available at what prize on your country.

Maybe this was more like posting my own dream.
If I were you I'd get a normal car and a cheap 'ute'. I don't know what's popular, but I'd suggest something Japanese or European with a good resell value. As far as utes go, I'd get a Toyota or anything else that's reliable and big enough.
That is one very expensive first car. :jawdrop:

With that sort of budget, safety should not be an issue at all! You can easily have a modern standard size car with the majority of safety features inclusive. Most cars in that budget will be aimed at families & young professionals, so safety is a high priority for most.

For a first timer though, I would recommend a run-of-the-mill car with no bells or whistles. Something along the lines of a relatively new Ford Focus has good safety standard, powerful (enough) without being silly and a little bit of fun to drive.

TBH, there is loads to choose from. I don't even know what I would pick! Most likely a hot hatchback of some sort, fun yet practical. Don't laugh, but I've always like the Skoda Fabia vRS.
Man I wish I had a mere £25-30,000 for my first car. As it happens mine's going to set me back around £600.

Yes, quite expensive. Its not like im going to hit 40,000. I really dont even want to.

I have some money saved over the years and my mum is willing to help out a bit, sort of as well i finish school in October, I am 18 then etc.

But the main reason was she recently got into a bad accident (well, few years back) because someone ran a red light and t-boned her car door at fast speed. My mum, 1 year old niece and sister was in the car and the car went flying on to the footpath 10 meters + down the road. She was driving a BMW. She was meant to drive my OLDER sisters used old Toyota Camery that night, and the three of them would have been dead by now..

Anyways, that's besides the point, i thought i would just clean that up if people where wondering WTF first car.

And yes, there is loads to choose from and in the end, i might only be spending a few thousand. That's why i came here for opinions and suggestions on cars that i can research and look up.
Get an orange ford focus ST. Chavvin it up :P
Don't all australians get a 'Yewt' as a first car?

buy the cortina and give the engine a bit of a tune up and stiffen/safen the chassis enough for her not to complain (got an '86 capri myself as a first car)
I would just buy an e36 m3-best car ever made, dont have any problems, fast, perfect quality.cant say anything bad about it.(i have 1,love it )
you have quite a budget. I was fortunate enough to have a similar one and I chose a classic car. i guess you're not cool in australia with a V8 american car or a honda (dunno what a chav is but it doesn't sound good) so maybe a rwd nissan that you could easily afford to tune and improve. They're not very safe though.. perhaps a powerful mercedes sedan? I don't know whats cool in aus sorry

No you should say get the E30 M3, yes the E36 M3 is nice but it isn't no where near as nice as the E30 M3. A E30 M3 would probably set you back about £8k though, you see them going for stupid prices.

Move to WA.

You can drive whatever the hell you want on your P's.
And get the use of Radar detectors and scanners without getting fined.

M3 for your first car ?

Same in Queensland. and up till recently, you didn't even have to have p plates.

plus you can drive the speed limit like everyone else
If you really want to spend all that money on a car, don't buy an old car to patch it up with a bigger engine. For that kind of money you can get a nice fast and comfy car, brand new, without hassle and with a warranty.
If you already had a car, I'd say get a classic and rebuild it, but don't do that for a first and only car.

My car cost about 15.000 euro's, it's not big, but it's quite comfy, safe and I think it goes fast enough too. So for 22.000 you can get you a very nice car really.

I'd go for the Falcon then, we don't have them over here, but I think those are pretty nice cars and not too expensive either.

For your first car? I wish I had that to spend for my 10th car! It would sure beat driving around in a falling apart Nissan Altima....
hi if you like classics why dont you look at a ford escort rs2000 mk2
Thats too much money for a first car.
a normal first car is (i dont really know) like 4-6k€
but not 22k...

Some people have money to burn

Or they use financing
But with the first car accidents can more likely happen, so youll be more sad when you drive a 22k BMW in the tree instead of 4k '99 Fiesta.
-BMW 3 series E46 preferably the 330i with the sport pack.
-Lexus IS250 manual. You won't be disappointed by the quality of the finish.
-Infiniti G35 coupe / Nissan Skyline 3500GT manual. A softer version of the Z33 350Z if you are looking for a daily driver.

Then, if there are money left, get some nice coilovers and a set of Rays. Then you'll be set for some quality hot girls hunting.

Oh. And people that tell you that accidents are more likely going happen with your first car: rubbish.
-My first car was an Acura/ Honda 3.2RL One massive car to drive when you live in downtown Montreal and park you park in an indoor parking lot daily. Never had any accidents.
-Then it was a E34 BMW 525i manual. Never had accidents with a manual RWD car in winter ( ice/ snow/ and everything in between)
- I now drive a 2006 545i few times a week. And I switch between a EK4 Civic. Never had any accidents.

For a first car, that's a good start, they all say that because they can't financially sustain the risk.

thats what insurance is for.

M3 sounds good I know two people who got one for their first car and had no problems. Personally a m3 is a little small for my taste.

don't let people tell you what you deserve. If you have the money, buy whatever you want.

o.O

My first car was a swap for an old microwave...!
