I just read that when they started up the previous largest particle collider over in America back in 2000, that caused all the same fears and conspiracies about black holes that the LHC is causing now, and the world didn't end in 2000 so I doubt its true.
if we cause earth to "die", and with us going with it, then it's just a return to emptiness. the rest of the universe carries on.
Man are selfish, so as every living creature, but at least we have the ability to think about our actions, and act upon it. A tiger on the other hand, will never think about is it moral to kill an injured deer.
the importance of sustainability, is to preserve the earth, for our better future, so it's also in a way, selfish.
internet has bad side yeah...but you doesn't need to be bothered, if you think there's something fishy with facebook, just never log on to it, again, choices in life. I think it's an issue if someone is too bothered with technology, some cynicalism does help us think twice about our actions, but feeling being threatened because of technologies that does not directly affect your personal life, is rather doing a Lerts.
If you friend doesn't want to walk, it's his choice, he has the option of walking but he has chosen not to, not the fault of transportation. And just think about your daily live, how many times had you went on a public transport, a car, without realising you are enjoying a luxury as if it is granted. without transportation, I guess you will be much more concerned with getting on the most basic stuff of your life - getting food - getting goods - meeting people rather than a friend not walking.
Besides, we don't know what's on the other side of black holes anyway, so there's no saying we'd all die. Your guess is as good as anyone else's what might happen.
This is what a lot of people forget, you need to take a risk to advance in life, or as the old saying goes "you need to break some eggs is you want to make an omelet."
Look at original surgery, they used to cut people up with no pain medication or cleaning agents and had an extremely high mortality rate, over the last 2,500 years they have greatly improved it.
The LHC might blow up and create a black hole and kill is all, but it is needed to improve it later.
Lets no blow it out of proportion shall we.......... it's like saying the invention of a single gas heater might blow up the entire Great Britain in 1856.
We didnt die because they havent acctually hit the particles together yet. I think today they just sent them around the full tunnel.
In 2 months they hit the particles, thats when we die
And that will be the best day of the year. Today was just to make sure the machine works without causing a blackout over Europe or explode from the extreme heat. I really can't wait for the actual experiment.
