Isn't his singular ocular appendage in the wrong place?

Can anyone tell me whether you can make creatures that fly? I haven't seen any creatures that could take to flight which I feel would be a very big evolutionary game development mistake.

Mad
AFAIK there will not be any flying creatures.. that's just an arseload more work. They've removed aquatic creatures, too.
This editor gave me some pretty fun moments

But you can have floating creatures, and also creatures that look like fish. So the parts are there and I rekon they will make expansions to have a underwater and flying creatures. In the early stages they actually had both of those things, but I think they scrapped them so they could work on them later.

That looks like a mutated Gizmo.

EA have said that they feel it's unfair they don't get a cut of second hand game sales (WTF?!) and so they are trying to stifle the market by using DRM which has no effect AT ALL on pirates.
its quite funny how they keep making piracy more and more appealing
even more funny that the scene and piracy in its current form probably wouldnt exists if there had never been any copy protection
What about the game itself? As I went through the first stage (Cell) I was delighted. Even though the graphics were cartoonish and cutesy it was all still quite strange and organic feeling, and the contrast in scale of bigger vs small creatures was really very effective, at times I felt almost awed.

Having played through that stage I thought about Flow (cell stage is like Flow, but with more advanced and colourful graphics), and how that earlier game was really the better one. I set the difficulty to hard and still managed to get through the stage quite easily, even as a herbivore (next time around I'll play as a meat-eater and see if the gameplay changes much). The gameplay in Flow is really great- as you have to line up your attacks on other creatures carefully and go in at the right time- there's a wonderful cat and mouse game going on between hunter vs hunted, and the tables can turn very easily. In Spore, there wasn't really enough of this kind of tension in the gameplay (as a herbavore anyway, maybe I'm being a little unfair here?), you kind of just float around and try to avoid the bigger stuff.

I thought it would have been better to evolve a bit more going from the cell stage to land. By the time you reach land you're basically just the little cell creature you were before but with legs stuck on- I felt millions of years of evolutionary history had awkwardly or conveniently been swept under a rug. Also, I was still having a lot of fun blobbing around in cell stage, and it ended fairly abrubtly.

I don't want to write too much a bout the next stage, as I'm only halfway through...

I got to the land stage before I realised it really was trying to appear to people who play "The Sims" as a pose to other games...

Will try as a Carnivore on medium / hard tonight.

Thanks for reminding me about flOw - I knew that it reminded me of something!
What were you expecting from a Will Wright game?

The Space Stage strongly resembles Civ, with missions to complete to improve your standing with them.

I just wish that there were progression options in-between all of these. Like being able to get involved on your planets at a level approaching SimCity at the City stage. A lot of it is very limited (but I keep saying, nothing that can't be patched or modded).
Whoever came up with this thing deserves a medal:

Bear in mind this is one creature, not two.

The author seems to have added a humourous take on the DRM situation to the pic since I last linked to it too..
What do you expect from EA? Really, that's what they're known for. This DRM thing is just the latest way they're screwing the customer.

As for the game itself, though, I enjoy it.
What's this DRM?

I'm enjoying Spore as well, although I have to agree that it would be nice if you could play certain stages a bit more in detail. I'm currently in the Space stage on Normal difficulty, and I'm finding it a bit boring. I enjoyed the civilization stage the most.
Quote from Electrik Kar :What about the game itself?

cell was surprisingly fun but as you said it completely lacked in artistic direction and gameplay compared to flow... and once you get the omnivore mouth youre pretty much invincible

the creature stage was the most enjoyable to me... nothing much to critizise about it other than that the stats points for different parts and the complexity limit destroy the enjoyment you could otherwise get from designing your creature

tribal was pretty boring and easy once you figure out that befriending other tribes is by far the most effective route to success

civ was over in a breeze as well but got really boring and annoying to me after the second or third thing i had to design myself... its just not as fun as the creature editor

and the space stage is utterly rubbish and nothing but a chore unless you use a trainer
I bought it two days ago, online.

I love the space stage, I mainly just keep to a few stars around my home world and keep the planet(s) ticking over nicely.

Spoiler: If you get to the core, you get told to go to Earth. Badge if you nuke it.

EDIT: I love the Civ stage, I'm a military minded guy, so I claim a geyser and pump out loads of tanks/aircraft and blow the heck out of everything. And bombing planets in space stage is fun too. I dunno, I find terraforming oddly relaxing
The space stage is ridiculous. I've got to a point where I have no chance whatsoever of surviving. I keep getting attacked by a multitude of different races whose military power far exceeds my own. I have no hopes of withstanding their attacks, an no means at all to improve my own military power.

Thus, I am completely and utterly stuck. I have absolutely no option but to delete that game and start all over again. This is absurd. I'm so frustrated right now I want to scream my lungs out. Seriously. I don't think I'll play it again, there's no point if this is the way things go.
