I found a couple threads in the improvement suggestions section.... but noting for addons.

I was wondering if anyone was working on a mod that creates a grinding noise when you shift incorrectly. Currently if you totally misclutch a shift, LFS will just leave it in N and not give you any indication of a problem with shifter other than that. A grinding noise would add some realism in the game.

That aside... is it possible to rev match and shift w/o the clutch? I haven't tried it in the game....
in real life yes you can shift and rev match a manual transmission car without the clutch. Very destructive and I only know because my clutch cable broke on my first car and I drove it home 6 miles in the snow without the clutch and used all 5 gears.

in LFS, not that I know of. I think I may have tried it, but not sure if it would even be worth it. Turn on autoclutch if you don't care to depress a pedal.

as for a grinding noise, just have to wait and see if it gets implamented into the game.

My spelling sucks, I know, public schools and all
lol ya, I do it once in a while. Got two cars, both are manual... can't stand to drive auto IRL. Was just wondering in the game. Def not an issue of not wanting to push the clutch, just want a grinding noise for more realism
Would be too much of a pain to implement.

dunno much about the internal workings of lfs... but from my development experience.... it'd be something along the lines of:

if(gear shifted from x to y && clutch != pressed){
play grind.wav
}

lol...

idk maybe its more complicated than that.
If you've ever driven or ridden a real car or bike, you would know you can change gears without a cluth as long as you can match the revs. On a bike you can change up without a problem. changing down is harder because you can't get to neutral in any gear other one than 2nd, but on a car it's possible.

On a car just shift into N and then match the revs to the roadspeed for the gear and it should go straight in. Not good for the gearbox but can be done nevertheless.

yeah we know that, just want a grinding noise since lfs doesn't let you rev match

edit: just tried it... you CAN rev match in lfs.... but it should still make a grinding noise when you do it incorrectly

gear box damage would be awesome too... but I'm sure that wouldnt' be an addon... that's more of a feature they need to add to the game
There's clutch damamge. Gearbox damage is FAR too complicated to model. I think I'm correct in saying no game has decent GEARBOX damage. Apart from those crappy ToCa games, and Race Driver. But you can slam into a wall at 150 and get gearbox damage (??), not from downshifting like a prick

True.
You know what really grinds my gears? :gnasher:

What is so complicated about it, when a sufficiently high force is applied across the gearbox whichever gears and synchros are being used get damaged? The Papy sims had gearbox damage modeled.
Dunno about that one AJP, only Papy game I played was GTL. How do you define a "sufficiently high force" o.o

So you've never played a Papy game...

Sufficiently high force? Well if the speed differential is too great the syncromesh will have to work a lot harder, particularly if the engine is partially clutched and revs are not fully matched. If the force being transferred across the transmission is too great then it will fail at the weakest point, usually the driveshafts or diff will fail first though.
Oh, ok. So we're gunna get diff damage and driveshaft damage modeling
