i just got this error message:
Low On Registry Space : The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored
my config dir has a hefty 196 mb and about 180 of those are the system file ... any ideas ?
oh yeah ... cant see any suspicious processes ... just ran antivir on c and spybot and didnt find anything unusual

Hm looks like you have just installed too much crap...
Make a backup of all files (best thing it backup all drives), then format C and see how fast everything will be

It's alyways a good idea to install ONLY windows on C, andthing else goes to another partition. Like this, you can easily make backups of the stuff that is needed for booting, and you only need 5GB for that windows partition.

I don't think there's a limit om registry-space. Seems to me to be something fishy going on. What you could try, is to clean out your registry with RegSupreme.

Not something I've ever come across myself I must admit, but it is a legit error message, but I don't seem to see any reasons/solutions being given via google, other than formating and re-installing

how much ram do you have and how big is the page file?

dunno that programm but most of these only delete invalid files but dont crunch fragmented hives
(my system hive is about 4 mb after defragmenting it)

suppsedly it doesnt have a limit but then again this article talks about how to change the limit (the option isnt where the article says it should be though)

ive got sp2 installed

so with the help of the guys in the lfs chat i found a registry deframenter (made sense to use it since the system hive was only about 4 mb when i exported it using regedit) and after using it im down to about 20 mb

Few more findings in the unlikely case anyone else has this error which isn't supposed to exist on XP.

Well, if you have only installed Windows on C:\ this takes only 3 minutes and you dont lose any data, except the programs you have installed till the last backup. As Im making a backup at least once a month, I dont have to worry about Virus stuff... A virus scan takes much more time than quickly loading the old backup again

Restoring a ghost and reformat/reinstall are two very different things.
