Doesn't sound like a legitimate letter.

More to the point, who in their right mind would just now declare PETA to have 'lost the plot'? They never knew where it was in the first place. Bunch of blithering idiots who need to shut the hell up.
Quote from thisnameistaken :Would we want to see all the cows in our fields replaced by large-breasted women? That's an argument for another day.

Bedside agricultural magazines FTW!
Quote from amp88 :If her beliefs really are that strong she could have decided not to take the treatment. A lot of people throughout human history have died for less. The point I was trying to make was that it was clear hypocrisy.

if you can find anything about a drug that was tested during her time as an ctivist and she still uses it you might have a case but not with this
this is about the equivalent of accusing a british hamilton fan who also happens to be fiercely against colonialism and works in africa to sort the mess europe has done with it of hypocricy

Quote :If that's not hypocrisy I don't know what is.

it isnt for the reasons wsinda and i pointed out

Quote :I say the moon because I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve by saying North America.

just making an observation that its much more abundant on the north american forum i read from time to time than here... most regularly used by people who have very little esle to say in political threads
Quote from thisnameistaken :This isn't a serious suggestion. Anyone who takes five seconds to consider the practicalities of it will realise it isn't a serious suggestion.

Yeah, as I pointed out earlier there seems to be a sense of humour failure in this thread, a surprising amount of bile that deserves a "hang on a minute, where's that coming from?" moment...

Personally, I like meat. I have no problems with killing animals for food and feel that the world would be a better place if people had a greater connection to that process, a more sensual appreciation of what it means to prepare that stuff in the supermarket.

In actual fact PETA have done that with a simple verbal trick. By replacing "cow" with "human" the entire process of manufacture and consumption has been laid open to a fresh perspective and your response has been disgust.

Quite impressive really. I still like meat though....
Quote from thisnameistaken :This isn't a serious suggestion. Anyone who takes five seconds to consider the practicalities of it will realise it isn't a serious suggestion.

The suggestion itself is completely impractical; nobody will argue about that. But the point is: were PETA serious? In determining that, the questions are [1] can they drop their ideological blindfold and see the practical implications, and [2] do they have a sense of humour? Apparently, for many people the answer is "no" to both.
Well, having seen some crazy stuff by PETA in the past, especially how fanatical they can be, it's really hard to tell if it was meant to be satirical or serious.
Quote from Shotglass :there nothing wrong with accepting something that happened years ago as a given... you cant fight the past
also what do you expect him to do? roll over and die from diabetis?

Yes, I expect her to. When she, and the rest of the organization, says that the rest of society should, then she should, too.
Quote from MAGGOT :When she, and the rest of the organization, says that the rest of society should, then she should, too.

You mean the choice is between animal-tested drugs or no drugs at all? That's what they call a false dichotomy. Standard rethoric trick.
I can't believe anyone ever responds to flymike.
Quote from DeadWolfBones :I can't believe anyone ever responds to flymike.

I can't believe I respond to him sometimes, but it's just so easy.

I don't agree with you on a lot of topics, and I sometimes think your tired dismissals of things you disagree with are a bit lazy, but at least I know you've put some thought into what you're saying and I can assume that you're just bored of arguing. He's still getting his argument on, and isn't making enough of a case yet, so he still needs people to tell him what a fool he is.
umm i didn't make this thread. I just agreed with mackie, but whatever I guess.

btw I did the math. It takes 1.5 gallons of milk to make one gallon ice cream. Cow milk is $5 per gallon. People actually sell breast milk and when they do they sell it for $1.5-3 per ounce. There are 128 ounces in a gallon meaning it would cost Ben and Jerry's about $288 to make one gallon of ice cream, minus the actual ingredients. Its all a moot point anyway because it would seem I've never said anything worth reading.
I'm sure that human breast milk is much the same as bovine breast milk, but I'd still refuse to knowingly have it in all the products I eat. It's just ewww. It's random strangers' milk It's be rather like eating other people rather than beef. Just no :vomit:
