PC just loaded a picture in a weird way??
I was just viewing some pictures on google (using the see full-size image option in images)

Normally, when any single picture is being loaded, it starts loading from the top of the picture until it is done. Thats the only way i have ever seen a picture or image load.

However, i just clicked on a picture and lt loaded from the bottom of the picture upwards, which looks weird.

It doesn't matter really as the picture still displays the same when its done loading but, should pictures load from the bottom as i have never seen it before??
Maybe you can post a link to that picture (if it's not too embarassing ) so others can test if it's the same for them.
A web photo suite I used to use (can't remember what it was. Could have been paint shop pro) gave options on how to load the picture. There was top-down, bottom-up or blurry-clear. I remember that blurry-clear pictures were a good 200KB larger, but I don't know how it works

yeah i thought something was up as it took about 15 seconds to load it all, which is ages. Well, compared to other jpgs anyway.
Quote from amp88 :Despite the JPG extension this does appear to be a BMP file. As Taavi mentions above, it's not uncommon for BMP files to load from the bottom up. I don't know why that happens though...

Because of how the .bmp code is written. Much like horizontal stripes in a .gif take up more space than vertical stripes.
WTF? I loaded the man with guitar picture, and it showed up all distorted.

It's nothing special.
Although bmp pixel data is stored bottom-up so the top line of the image corresponds to the bottom line of pixel data in the file
it's just the way Firefox (Edit: and Opera and maye other browsers too) is displaying .BMP files nothing more.
(also the .jpg file someone posted in this thread is just a renamed .bmp file)
You can test the same pictures in IE 7 and that browser is then loading the pictures (unseen) in the background and then displays it all at once

try it

afaik it has nothing to do with how you save the bmp files
other than with .jpg files that you can save in "progressive" mode for websites that shows first a low res pic and then the full quality picture when fully loaded.

Opera does the same.
Safari, when I'm viewing a site where my connection is being saturated by torrents, it loads images interlaced.
