Some of you might remember this from last year, but I figured I'd go with a less provocative subject to stop you all being disappointed
My girlfriend is a writer. One of the organisations she's a part of run various charity events and she will be taking part in an endurance event where the idea is to write as many short stories (a particular style called 'flash') as possible in 12 hours. Last year she cranked out 30 stories, the highest number of everyone taking part, and this year the crazy woman wants to beat that.
The 2008 event starts Saturday, October 4th at 11am.
The best stories of the day are turned into a book and sold, with the profits going towards the same charity as the sponsorships. Last year's book can be ordered here for anyone who's interested. And there are some great stories in there, not just from my lady, but from the other writers as well.
This year's charity is Volunteer Reading Help because 2008 is National Year of Reading (apparently). Previous years have raised money for Alzheimer's and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).
You can obviously give as much or as little as you like, but either way the donation link is HERE. And you get a big cheesy grin for your troubles
UK residents can also opt in for Gift Aid to give tax-free and get a 3% bonus on your donation - awesome or what, eh? They can also be made anonymously, in case you're a bit shy or want to hand over an assload of cash in secret. And yes, I put my cash in there as well.
