Hi all, I'm brand new off the factory line, just bought my license and I'm going to play for the first time tonight!!! I'm 32, based in Edinburgh Scotland and I love driving, but moreso I love racing.

Just received my G25 wheel this morning to my work address, TrackIR due next week and was advised by a friend to buy a license for Live For Speed asap, so I have, and here I am!

So what have I got to look forward to? I'm totally new to this community and looking forward to joining a league and getting stuck in! I'm so excited I'm going to need a change of underwear before I play tonight.

First of all, hello and welcome to LFS.

Secondly, you can look forward to getting ripped a new arse when people point you to this thread instead of the Off-Topic section for your hellos.

But after that you can look forward to a lot of people complaining and bitching, the same suggestions getting made over and over and demo users asking for more content they don't deserve.
Of course there's also some quality racing available too, but on the forums I think I've covered most of the regular stuff

welcome to a great game, the forum is alright but just watch out for the people who take the game more seriously than real life

Not really, I made a thread of when I got S2 and everyone was very polite and stuff!

Cheers all, ah typical, I did look for the newbie thread but didn't find it. Nevermind. Well I've just completed the obligatory reading up on flags, safe driving and race politics as well as watching the mini videos (awesome but obvious). I guess tonight I'm going to spend 8 hours learning to drive safe before I get the nerve up to join a course with real folk :P

Oh, I'm hoping to help my girlfriend learn to drive with this, what do you think, will it help? She's done about 20 hours already but due to a loss in the family she's paying off a funeral for the next year and is forced to take a break from lessons so I thought this might make a nice alternative (and a great excuse for me to buy it). Do you think a g25 will help with her use of gears and clutch control or is it just not close enough to the real thing yet?

EDIT: Also, how do I get my little flag at the top left to change to Scotland?

You can set yourself up as Scottish by going into your account at lfs.net and changing your country.

Welcome to LFS.

The clutch model isn't bad, but with so many controller types supported and the focus being on racing it it's a long way from perfect too.

I think most new drivers are quite shocked when they see just how fast some people go. It can take a bit to come to terms with just how lightening fast some racers are and learn how to get the most out of sim racing.

Attitudes/Approach to LFS amongst some more casual players can be a bit more 'gamer' than 'simmer', although that changes at the front of the pack and in leagues.

I wrote some guides you may find useful, the most important thing first of all though is just mastering the basics of driving around for half a dozen laps at a reasonable pace without falling off.
