First Gig
In a couple of weeks time myself and some good mates from work will be playing our very first gig.

we are called fenton stack, and we cover such songs as Blur's "Song 2", Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", the Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant " and Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop".

if you want to hear what we sound like ive added a mp3 of us in practise covering Judas Priests "living after midnight" (our singer, kev was just shaking off a head cold, but he soldiered on like the trooper he is!)

fingers crossed for the big night, i know it will be a lot of fun, and you may see us in a pub near you soon!

Good luck!
Good luck, hope it goes well!

And most importantly, have fun! No point being up there if you're not enjoying yourself.

Good luck! Remember that you have nothing to fear as you know what you are doing, just play your instruments as if you're in a room practising and don't get worked up, just relax.

Just listened to your mp3, certainly sounds pretty impressive.
thanks guys

i really, really appreciate all the advice, and the positive comments are a real tonic.

Its a week ago now, but ive been busy at work.....but last Saturday night we were playing our first gig.

about 80 people turned up to see us, friends, family and work mates.

we did a little sound check, which got a few folks to check us out, and then we waited for 20:30 to come and kicked (no pun intended) off with The undertones "Teenage kicks".

i will never forget the reaction we got.........everyone went nuts. it was like a wave of sound hitting me...incredible feeling.

after that we did eight more numbers and had a break, then nine more for the second set and finished.

Folks were dancing and wanted more, so we gave them three tunes we had done earlier, ones they requested.

and that was that. overall i would give us 7/10, not bad for a first effort. everyone said what a good time they had and we shall be playing again in november.
Sounds like you had a good time mate, love to hear new bands down the pub. See if you can get in at Burnley, we got a couple of pubs based around rock/indie bands.
I would have thrown bottles at you.
Not bad for a start, hope you'll improve a lot in the future

You got any semi-decent records that don't sound like bootlegs?

Congratulation with first gig

Thats just Klutch, he does it to everyone.

Nice to hear your first gig went well, we tried one once, but the drummer's bass drum pedal slowly began to fall apart and my mate had his guitar turned up so loud that my poor crappy little bass couldnt be heard (probrably a good thing really!).

Only horrible bands that play horrible music.
I would have loved to hear a cover of Song 2... Never heard it covered before. (Except that terrible girl band cover.. forget who it was...)

Congrats on a successful gig. 80 people and 20 songs is a LOT for a first gig. Kudos!

thanks! watching half a dozen 30/40 somethings leaping about like idiots to "Paranoid" made me feel pretty good!

we are doing an open mic gig this saturday and song 2 is one of the numbers planned.
if i get it videoed i will put it on youtube.

thats subjective. not everyone will like the same music you like. that's why there's so many bands and different styles of music out there.
the first band i joined was a punk band and did covers like them and some songs from nofx. it was fun, then after that i joined a different band with a few mates from school, at our first gig there was 400-500 people there

nice job mate anyway, good to see you enjoyed yourself as well. thats the main thing

thanks
Nirvana eh?

I think it was ok played, but I think the guitar and bass did play some various scales, aswell that the instruments did not seemed right tuned.
But else than that, ok fair enough, not any big errors I noticed
Damnit! >.<
I'm beyond help lol, ofc I was thinking on a other song..

Don't think you played so bad it was not beeing able to be regonized, it's just me having a fish-stick brain
I quite like it, whether it be my type of music or not.

Myonly critisisim (spelling ftw) is that both the guitarists and the drummer need to get more involved, as these songs arent that exciting in general and there pritty easy to play, so you need to move around more, get more involved in the music, most of the time your all just stood still.

Even if it is just jumping about in build ups/bridges, just move around more and such.
lol
the people playing the instruments are fine

but that vocalist
wow

it makes my ears bleed
