Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :dude, too much power. I drift like a pro. its easy. keep the power UNDER 450, and don't use nos. Also, give yourself an LSD, Comfort or Economic tires, all the other race stuff, and you got yourself a drift car. it involves a lot of spin crash redo work. keep practicing, and you can be able to drift like a pro.

Uhm, well let me correct myself. I get the car to slide by doing some totaly unorthodox driving. Handbrake, scandinavian flicks and the like. (By the way you can have as much power as you like to drift).

On the rare occasions that I got a car sideways, I'd counter steer and it'd flick instantly the other way. Because it was designed for the DFP, the console controller couldn't turn the wheel fast enough.
Quote from Feffe85 :hehe... turn off antispinn/tcs "whatever", and u really, REALLY have wheelspin.. zero traction :P

sure in that way it´s shit... but i love the 240

What wheelspin? I never said that I cant do Wheelspins.

This is what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPfCoHErp1c

Oh btw, The wheelspin sound is very cheap/annoying.

I NEVER USE AIDS.
yes the side sounds in gt series have always been crap.... even the cars sounds when you put a race muffler makes all the cars sound the same.
Quote from batteryy :well, im not sure yet. cos my xbox is coming tomorrow and hopefully so is forza 2

enjoy it while you can make sure you keep it very cool cause if it gets too hot it just dies.

you need either comfort tires, road tires, or economic tires. all the standards pretty much.
Quote from V3NOMOUS :I wouldnt Touch GT4 if you payed me. Hell if I wanna drift I just load up LFS cause its actually real. (mate got me to play GT4 I know and well he payed me $5), I tried to Scandinavian whip the car into drifting that failed so I walked off and installed LFS on his PC and showed him what a real Drifting game looks like

ok, good point
Quote from RossUK :I tried GT5P with a mustang, and it understeered horribly, and there was a huge squeal every time I moved the steering wheel. Then if I touched a fence or wall, instant unrecoverable spin.

Didn't feel right at all, so no thanks to drifting in that game. Forza 1 was much more tail happy, so I could have a bit of fun with that.

i should have mulitquoted, but Prologue is the quarter, i guess you could say, version. The full is coming out later this month, or November. They are STILL updating right now, but they are almost done.
I tried GT5P again yesterday at my mates house. As far as a 'pretty' arcade game goes, it's not that bad. Just don't expect it to be a sim and it won't let you down. As much.

But yeah, they seemed to have fixed the dorifto issue. I had no problem stringing together 600ft drifts with my IS-F.

erm, you know that the full GT5's release date is "somewhen in 2009 or 2010"?
Forza 2 is a much better simulator, the car's react properly to the users input and it has tyre squealing sounds that are actually bearable /:
I played GT3, that's enough.
Tells me enough that it's an action-racing game.
Sucks ass!

I remember when I was drifting in Forza 1, I was pretty good at it
Gran Turismo 1 through to 4 sucked at holding a drift. It wasn't impossible just took some getting used to, something I never really got the hang of. It was easy to cheat to say you did an awesome drift though...Photomode.

Forza 1 and 2 weren't half bad at it. I remember the rotary powered MX5 I had on Forza 1 sometime ago, that thing was extremely tail happy and was nice at holding it sideways round a corner.

As for GT5P, i've yet to try it out, but I imagine it won't be that much better than GT4. More bling bling graphics than better physics by the looks of things. Maybe it will change by the time of the actual release of GT5, but again I very much doubt it'll be all that great. People buy it because of the looks, not the physics as its a console game.

GT1 was amazing (for its time), GT2 was good, GT3 was really good... then came GT4 which was really bad. To say GT1-4 were bad, would be a little unfair IMO.

GT5P is different, really. It's not LFS, but it has more or less decent physics. I still like Forza 2 a tiny little bit better, but it's close, very close.

i use to drift alot in gt2, but that's before I started sim racing and still enjoys fooling around in NFS4 etc.

I never said they were bad as a whole, it was just they didn't hold drifts very well. I was a bit of a GT fanboy until I started playing sim racers on PC. I remember buying GT1 when it first came out (paid £40 for it, can get it for a couple of quid now) and since then I always got the latest when it came out. Apart from GT5P that is, as I don't have the money for a PS3.

I actually enjoyed the first 4, the car choice along with the tracks was pretty good. The physics weren't brilliant, but the pick up and play was good, and it was good to thrash your mates over a few bevvies. Still to this day, Midfield Raceway is one of my favourite tracks in a game, ever.

I still play GT1 and 2 on an emulator occasionally now and it still brings a little smile, even if the graphics are huge pixels.

have you been reading my mind?

deep forest was good as well.

A few of the original GT tracks we're pretty good, but Midfield just put the icing on the cake for me.

If I had any skills at all, i'd have a go at recreating it for rFactor or something. I know Grand Valley got recreated (badly) for rFactor, but why oh why didn't they choose to do Midfield.
I was talking about the ability to drift in those games aswell. I remember that GT1 was the first game (for me) where drifting worked. GT2 was pretty much the same, and GT3... i loved drifting the RUF Porsches. I could be wrong, and it was actually weak, but it's a long time ago... hehe (still have them all tho, maybe i should give it a go again sometime ).

Midfield was great... my favourite were Deep Forrest and Trial Mountain tho!
Quote from [nism0]M5 :GT5 for the PS3 can beat GT4 & maybe GRID anyday of the week!

you can drift on gt5 realistically you can choose your tyres, driving aids the lot!

"maybe GRID"

There is no maybe about it. GRID is terrible. No where near GT5p. GT5p is not bad at all physics wise as well as graphically and it is improving after each update. GT5 is going to be very good

Personally... I still have deep affection for Trial Mountain. I suck at driving it, but It's still... special to me.

Seattle circuit floats my boat :P

oh. I read a GT5 page, and they said this month, or November.
to me, GT3 is their best effort yet. All the graphics looked better than GT4, and the driving physics were better than GT4. Hopefully, I get out of old school consoles soon, and get a PS3 (or XBOX 360).

Special Stage Route 5 is like my calling track. I love those huge corners before and after the straight. Deep Forest if pretty cool, too. Trail Mountain is alright, and Grand Valley has been a joy. Otherwise, they didn't do a reall good job making the realistic tracks, except Circuit De La Sarthe (my favorite realistic track in the whole game).

Sliding like mad in GT1 on Special Stage Route 11 with my 930 HP Mitsubushi GTO, while "As Heaven Is Wide" by Garbage plays in the background..... bliss.
