PC/OS Solutions for the masses
I would compare purchasing a PC to shelling out £400 of your hard earned cash on a sheepdog and have him fetch a stick for a living.

Has anyone any idea how many people spend this much money for a system and solely browse the web and take no advantage of the money they've just spent?...i guess 2/3???

This is'nt an ad and im not a fanboy of this particular product I just want to express my concern on how many people who 'don't know about computers' think they need to go to a laptop or desktop retailer just to get on the web and do all the other normal things.

The Beagle board is a cheap alternative for me...What more do the masses need? It's a no-brainer. Plug it into the TV anf the GF/wifey can do what she likes
So instead of basically advertising it, what does it do? How much does it cost? Where can you buy it from and so on.

A little more info is needed me thinks.

My lack of info I feel compunds the fact that its not an AD.
:google:

Ok I'll take the time out of my evening to research a piece of hardware for which I don't care for.

Seriously, post some damn info.
does look a little underpowered
the jtag port is a nice touch though and puts it firmly where it imho belongs deep enthusiast country for the kind of geek who likes to spend his time soldering an ethernet connection into his c64

...runs Firefox and XBMC all day long no bother, shure it's no great leap or breaks no boundaries but as a package for a simple application its not too bad imo

C64 ethernet connection Did you?
no sadly i currently dont own a c64... but im planning to get one going for irc some time
meh...

Unfortunately were at a stage where alot of the public know enough about PC's to act like twats, but not enough to actually know anything useful.

Case in point - family at work demanded top performance for a very demanding app they refused to talk to me about, so I directed them to a Q6600-based PC with 4GB of RAM, their response was "too slow". I explained how realistically for £600 they weren't going to get anything faster, and that it was very very very fast - but still no joy. Then she revealed that she was using Sibelius, and that her 2.8 P4 had trouble, so this would definately be much worse (being a 2.4 GHz CPU). No amount of explaining architecture, cores or the fact that the P4 (not even the P4D!) is 8 years old would change her mind - the more i tried to explain the more she thought I was talking shit
