Add time for car takeovers
In the 6hr Desire of Patience race I went up by myself and managed to finish the race, however I noticed that others who were using multiple drivers didn't get any time added to the pitstop. I think for realism and a small benifit to those going alone that the take-over car routine should add 3 to 5 seconds for another driver to swap in. If you wanted to get more realistic it would probably add more time, but I figured since in real life they are doing multiple things at the same time, 3 to 5 seconds would be about right.

Anythoughts?

It depends on how long the pitstop is. If your gunna repair damage and take lets say 40 seconds I'm sure that a driver can jump out, another jumps in, fastens seat belt while the pit crew is working on the car and off they go. If the pitstop is like a 9 second pitstop were you just get fuel but change drivers then there should be an extra for driver swap.

Good idea though.
Sounds like a good plan.

How long does a driver switch take? 30 seconds to get one guy out and another in and strapped up? Maybe a little longer?

Simple enough rule too. Just make that the minimum stop time for the change.

In Formula 1 a driver should be able to get out the car in less than 8 seconds, but exit is easier than entry. So I think 30 seconds is probable. But we could search Le Mans videos and see it hehe
I don't think there should be crazy amounts of time added, because then all the serious teams would start to make it so they don't switch drivers. But for people like me, who are crazy enough to attempt 6hrs or whatever distance might be alone the loss of concentration levels alone start to add up on those old lap times... But a nice advantage could be some sort of time to change... Maybe as evilpimp was saying, if the pitstop is a long one already than don't add much if anytime for a driver change, but if the stop is too quick than make some time for the driver change - IE a minimum amount of pit time per driver swap wouldn't be a bad idea...
People would lie and tell LFS they're not changing drivers.

End of idea.
I think I see what he means. Because you only click on the T after the pitstop is done. So maybe you should HAVE to indicate and press on the T before the pitstop. Just like you decide how much fuel you add, wether you change tires or not, repair damage and all that you could have the option - Driver Takeover or something like that. And then you make the pitstop and the driver presses on your T and you accept by pressing on the T and poof.
My point is, why would anyone want to be stuck in the pits longer?

Most endurance leagues have a limit as to how many percent of a race distance one driver is allowed to have driven.

Why would anyone want to drive 16 hours alone? Or worse, 24 hours.

So when those driver changes occure, there should be some added time to simulate the time it takes a driver to jump out and another to jump in.

Plus, like Zeug said, some leagues require a driver change atleast if not 2 in some cases.
How would they know who's really driving?!

Ohhhh!!

Oww... Getting owned hurts.

Edit: Never seen an endurance race.
Edit Edit: I was thinking the original post was saying when your buddy sitting next to you takes over and drives, you press some button that makes you pit longer.

Formula 1 doesn't do mid race driver changes.

Yet. With what the FIA is turning F1 into you never know. :P

And Sauber that would be stupid lol obviously no one would press the button :P.
I don't see why not.

Haha, I also want a button for longer pit stops /sarcasm

But seriously I am considering attempting the 12hr Desire of Patience race alone, if they let me which I hope they do. I know I will be at a disadvantage as far as concentration goes, but I want to see if I can personally handle it and use it as a mental and physical challenge to myself.

Glad to see the spark in conversation
I think this is a good idea and the stop should be 30 seconds or something for everyone.

Maybe you could set that you have to change driver after 3h (for a 6h race) and then the pit stop is longer than normal then a window opens up and if you dont pit during this time then you get disqualified.

Might be a bit harsh but would eliminate people cheating the system as people would. If you could do it like that anyway.

12h on your own? 20 cans of red bull and a packet of biscuits

I've driven a real car for 8h in one go but this is not that long really. But you stay concentrated becase you don't have a re-set button.
I've driven a real car 28hrs straight, during a trip from Maine to Florida... I did have a passenger, but that is also not as intense as racing either :P
