Homeplug is that piece of shit idea to use the electric cables for the internet? That's probbably the most likely problem. Just get a wireless routher and use that on it's own. If the range is too much, buy two and get the first one to connect to the second one.

Wireless is that piece of shit idea that drops packets all over the place isn't it?

Use what is best for your application.
Funny that. Went from using powerline to using a high end netgear router from my bedroom to the downstairs study, all my lag virtually disappeared, have a ping of under 40 to most servers both in LFS and CSS and will never time out or lag during racing unless I'm over my DL limit.

Packets of data can be sent wirelessly. Packets of data going through electric cables may work for XBL but for normal internet and what not it doesn't work. D:

HomePlug works fine on the Wireless Access Point plugged into it and has always worked fine in the past - and Wireless would need a repeater...

FWIW on Wireless i've had no end of issues - Homeplug was so easy I didn't even notice I had it (litterally - my Dad just plugged it in one day when the cable broke), no lag issues etc until now.

Either way - transferring from my laptop to the wireless access point, through the switch on the homeplug thingy to my PC = sloooooooooooow. Even when with 100% signal...
I really have no idea what people's problems with wireless are. I've had no issues apart from occasional drops of signal, which are often days apart and last for ~0.5 second so nothing's really affected.

I'm sure having 3347329 systems to go through your interweb is getting held back somewhere. My money's still on the powerline. Ours was fine until one day, as well.
Isnt jak the computer guru? lol i thought you knew the answers to every computer related problem! have you tried 42? usally works for me..

Like I said, an access point plugged into the homeplug box works fine - same if I use the cable to my PC on my laptop.

Also if i use wireless I can pretty much forget about having streaming media to my Xbox and have to find out if they make a WiFi dongle for the Xbox 1...

If you can't see why WiFi > Wireless for static PC's then I give up...

You've got Vista iirc Jakg?

How does it fair out if you transfer direct from pc to desktop with parallel Eth cable?

Tried narrowing it down to a possible corruption in you user account settings by creating a new account to test on?

Tried wireshark or something similar to see where packets are going too?

I have Vista and I don't under stand point 1 - will try a new user account tonight...

My problems with wireless: I live in a house with thick walls, 2 floors up. Wireless has no chance. Fortunately every room's got an ethernet jack. Of course I don't use powerline, but the point still stands about wireless.
Also, when I had wireless at the old house (in Leeds) I kept getting dropouts, packet loss etc. Wireless (for me, at least) isn't fit for purpose. My parents have since replaced it with a wired network and seen their internet speed go way up.
Well that I can understand, for people who live in larger houses or have very thick walls, but for us in this average 3/4 bedroom semi detached we have no problems :P

W T Funk.

PC boots up - no network card is found.

Restart with the drivers on a pendrive - just about to extract them, suddenly new hardware is found, MSN signs in and everything works.

Bad news - laptop screen gone loopy. YAY
Heard of system restore? USE IT ^_^v
Jakg's pc knowledge turns on him! YOU WILL FAIL!!!!
