hi, i thought i wanted custom themes on vista, so i folowed something to change 3 .dll's. all went good, i rebooted, and i get all these errors, saying that windows misses files. So, i think i need to replace the old ones, but i can't get on windows, so any idea how i can reach my HDD? btw, i have express gate on my motherboard, but i can only acces my DVD's via that

please help me, it's urgent.

If you can get into safe mode you might be able to try system recovery, but I somewhat doubt that will be possible - though it's worth a shot.

Your best bet is to boot off your Windows disk and try for a recovery mode install.

Do you know what the .dll's where?

Where did you get information telling you to change these files and what do you meen by change them?

sorry for double post, i tried via the photo thing, but you can only reach photo's via that, no other extensions. *cry*

and i can't see anything, not even in safe mode, so i'll try to find the vista CD and recover from there

I bet you could find the original dlls somewhere online. I recommend booting off an Ubuntu DVD or something (you can download and burn an image on another PC), which will AFAIK give you access to your hard drive, so you can replace the .dll files.

That's funny.. :/ I think all you're supposed to do is insert the DVD and select "boot from DVD" by pressing F10 or something on startup. Is that what you tried?

I think I/0 errors means that it can't read the DVD. But I'm on very very thin ice here.. I think you'd be better off asking in some tech forum or something. Sorry!

it does boot, and i select my language, then press install, then it loads loads loads, and then this error.
btw, it's buffer, not bugger xD

can't find the tech forum. But erm... how about a linux live CD? is it easy to use for noob like me, and wich one should i use?

fd0? I'm no Linux guru but fd0 sounds like floppy drive to me, I guess your machine doesnt have one - you could try checking the BIOS to see if one is configured, AWARD BIOS has a special setting on one of the setup screens for reporting no floppy drive to some OS' - I cant recall exactly where anymore.

no idea, i even tried Ultimate boot cd, but i dont have a clue what to do *cry*

how about, i install vista on my 2nd hdd, edit the files, remove vista, and tada?

just connect your HDD to a different PC and replace the files?

DOS WILL SAVE YOU! well, I use Norton Commander in extreme cases actually

Sorry but i found this thread for the best place i need.Coz i have big problem! after my windows dead,i bought a new hdd to install xp on,but now on my old hdd it wont let me in my private folders(had this before too,but didnt have very important things in it) so im asking/begging please anybody knows the solution?

Can't you just do a system restore?

If not (if it's been said already, cba to read) then I guess you'll have to re-install or re-format

To e2 : It most likely won't let you because you're not logged on, on the profile that matches the privacy settings. Best thing I can suggest is attempt to boot up on the old HD, pray it works and transfer everything to a CD/DVD that you need
