New MacBook, anyone got one?

So anyone tried/or got one of the new MacBooks yet?

Been looking at my choices of laptop for Uni and quite like the new MacBooks. I see they are advertising a new graphics chip, which if I remember rightly was one of the weak points of the old MacBooks.

Through the education store I'd get it for £816 for the basic model, and also a £95 rebate on a iPod. Quite a lot of money for a student like me but can stretch to it. The student discount is pretty good really, RRP is £949.
I quite like the idea of having the new pointing device, but that's the only part of the upgrade over the old Mactops that interested me. I think they're too expensive. Even in Mac terms!
I borrowed a friends Mac Book Pro earlier this year and loved it. The nice thing is you can easily run an XP emulator and all your games. I didn't try LFS but I had all the steam games running perfectly like Day of Defeat and Counter Strike Source.....

I'd better be a fast laptop for the price tag: £1,749.00
ah... was mit medien
in that case id base my decision on whether or not the laptop has at the very least a decent va panel

Do any laptops have VA panels? I'd be most tempted to get a Mac or whatever laptop, then buy a proper sized panel for working on... Oh wait that's exactly what I did do

If you can get 4GB ram in there Dajmin, do so. I guess you know these things already buying a design student, but more ram never hurts with PS. I find my Macbook Pro with 2GB grinds to a halt when I've got PS and a few other apps open. Not cool.
Lol yer whoever though glass covered displays would be good for designers needs to be shot. I guess they're aiming more at the 'about-campus-student' these days, and less at the professional market. I don't know the facts of the MBP but I expect it's TN, Apple like to skimp out on their displays.

professional designers set up the lighting conditions of their workspace very carefully.

under those conditions, glossy screens are significantly superior to matte ones.

the fact that in a photograph of the screen you see your reflection in it, doesn't mean shit about the monitor's image quality.

I think most of the Macbook users don't want to have to set up their lighting very carefully.

from what ive seen glosyy ones are just normal matte ones with an added layer of glass on top of the screen
the image quality of a tft solely depends on its panel and electronics

theres a reason none of the professional 2000+€ necs or eizos are glossy

I know, I own both glossy and non-gloss VA panels, I like them both tbh, sometimes I prefer the glossy (mainly for gaming/movies etc) and sometimes the non-glossy works best.

Whilst I can't claim to have any professional equipment, I have steered WELL clear of TNs since my first one 4 or 5 years ago.
can't beat TN for gaming...
