.knw files - patch Z
Hi all.

I found a bug with the UFR on a particular track (I don't remember which one right now): when I press "4" LFS tells me it can't open the relative file.
I was searching for something similar on bugs forum and I've read things like "maybe you deleted the files" and things like that...

So I just checked the original LFS_S2_ALPHA_Z.exe and decompressed it again.

In the fresh, just decompressed, folder they are "only" 962, while in my data\knw folder I have 983 knw files I thought I could have less, but I have more...

Can you tell me why there's this difference ?
Isn't it strange ? I never messed with that folder.
They are knowledge files for AI. So if your AI drives on a new track .knw file will appear. So add your AI too and let him drive :P I cant say its a bug, but never say never.

No.
AI training got disabled in patch Y.

Topic autor: maybe they have left from version Z? Check if you have a folder "data\settings" and .set's with names like XR GT Turbo_doridori.set

No, there's not such a folder.

The only thing I added was "LFS High_Res_Tracks_Volume_1.1.zip" from LFSDatabase.
All I can say is that it was my very first time with that combo (never AI-driven before), and that S2Z was my first LFS installation ever, if this can help.
I was also thinking the increased number of files was due to "experience", or something like that...

Before posting in the bug forum I wanted to know how knw things work.

The added files are not .knw files but .trs files
These .trs files represent the "darker" lines you leave on the track by racing on it.
There are a few options that affect the way this darker path is updated (I think you can select your car only, or all cars running on the track - there is also a way to make this line darker or lighter if you search the forums)
I hope this will be used in the future for changing track condition (dynamic update )

What happen is each time you race on a new track configuration LFS creates a new .trs file, and then updates it if you use this config again.

The .knw files are no more updated and have been created by Scawen for the Z patch. They give the AIs the path ("ideal" line) and I assume they are also the ones used to give you the "4" display.

I currently have 1004 files in there.
As usual...my bad !!
I haven't checked for the extensions and I just discovered I have some trs files, as you said !! Thanks for explaining.

The knw files are the same in both new and used LFS folders, that is 962.
So my question is still the same: If I get that error does it mean there is not a knw file for that combo, so it must be a bug ??
(it was a UFR on some tarmac track, I'll look for it later).

Are there knw files for ALL the combos even for a, say, BF1 on a rallyX conf? Or the "crazy" ones are left out ?
#7 - Fuse5
No, not for all of the combos.

You can try that for example by exiting the pits in BL2 with a gtr car, and it will tell you that there is no knw file when you press 4.
