Scene 1: slow-mo, but of what? Looked like pointless sliding to me, nothing interesting in it at all.
Scene 2: again, what is the slow-mo supposed to be emphasising? Watching the rear tyre do a lot of nothing for that long is boring.
Scene 3: angle shows nothing worth using slow motion for. It's not showing physics nor is it showing the race or a close call.
- Lacks artistic direction
- Cheesy music
- Static & boring camera angles
- Lacks content
- Zero effects
I won't give a score, as I don't know what to score it against.
The idea is unoriginal. When Don did this kind of stuff (slow motion, letting us see a bit of the physics detail) it was fresh and interesting. This is just a poor imitation of that.
Camera shots are held for too long when no action is going on.
Music choice is again unoriginal. How many thousand times have I heard Bittersweet Symphony?
Why were you weaving in the first shot? It looked really strange and unrealistic, why would you do that off the start line? You don't need to weave to exaggerate the physics.
I don't understand the use of the camera over the bonnet of the XRR. It doesn't show enough of the XRR.
There's nothing wrong with practising video making and editing. But. If you know you're not good at it yet, you're better off sucking it up and learning than justifying why you post movies you know nobody is interested in watching.
Perhaps the best thing to do is to find a board specifically intended for improving one's skills where you'd get more detailed feedback. And we wouldn't go blind.
Allright, I cleared my mind and actually watched this one (yes, I don't watch ALL the videos, and I don't comment on all the videos I saw...now there's one less secret about me)
Just before watching the video, I paused it, to let it buffer a bit and to give you this intro :
Don was the first one to make a proper slo-mo video, his work and input into LFS video making is undoubtably massive. His video can be called the "textbook" and it means that a slomo video must have
1.smooth camerawork, good editing and high FPS
2.stylish camera positions and good color correction or/and effects
3.original (as in being different from the others)
4.focusing on the great driving or the physics of the suspension and tires...
with that I shall watch your movie, removing 2 points of 10 for every point that hasn't been done properly (why 2 points instead of 1? Because it's EASY TO MAKE A SLOW MOTION VIDEO after Don has given us all the technology behind his slo-mo vids)
-2 points for the music, that's originality gone out of the window. This song has been used in every second slow motion LFS video. I know it's hard to find great music that hasn't been used yet, but it's worth it. Remember Lynce's LFS Drift video, all the perfect editing, spoiled by the bad music choice.
-2 points on the camerawork - I could have copied your camerawork in under 20 minutes with going to the kitchen to make me some tea, resulting in nice 100 fps footage (x250 @ 25 fps) and which would have me spend less than 1 minute at the computer in total... I don't believe you even tried to make it look good. You have to spend a HELL LOT OF TIME (as in HOURS and sometimes DAYS) to find great filming spots and cool angles, and mind you, each car has it's own issues (RAC for example is brilliant from the front, but hideous from the back... which is exactly what you have shown)
-2 for the editing : there is none. Having 4 cuts and 1 fade in the video which ends with no fading is NOT EDITED IN ANY WAY. YOU DON'T need to apply flashy effects or masterful colour correction, all you have to do is EDIT THE VIDEO which is possible even in WMM (which I suspect you are using) ALL YOU HAD TO DO IS ADD FADING. Another thing - having 4 transitions in a 4 minute movie made me question the honesty of this
-2 For the driving and focusing on the physics and tires. None of those cameras were showing off anything (besides bad (even by my racing standards) driving) to show off tires - show tires, use less fov, focus on the tire flex. If you want to show suspension work in drifting - make softer setup, decrease the arb settings, make the car slippy in the back and show it bounce and tilt, as for showing the good driving - get a good driver if you have to, like I do for H2H series.
That leaves us with 2/10
which I will leave at that.
as people have said before you need different camera angles. It takes quite some time to record movies and getting it just right. You need camera angles that are not glued to a car, you need them on a track somewhere.
disagree.
Music suits slowmotion very very cool.
when i was thinking of making slow motion video i thought of Bitter sweet... it`s just made for slow things
