AVG removed System32 files
Got a problem with my PC, when i started it up my AVG said there were 4 trojan horse infections, so i clicked "Remove threats as power user".
BUT those files turned out to be system32 files , i know that because i got the same warning on this laptop ten minutes ago so now i clicked "ignore" and everything is fine.

So what can i do??.. without reïnstalling windows and loosing all my files

Is it possible to buy an additional harddisk and install windows on that one so i still have all my files on the other hard disk?
can't you hook up that HDD to an other PC? or try to install something like a Live CD >clicky<

I hope this is a good lesson for you that you can't just download porn everywhere

well i can try it at my mums house

you can just connect it without installing anything?
Alot of viruses hide themselves in the system32 folder. AVG does not delete genuine system files, I've had it for over a year now.

Besides, "system32" is not a file, it's a folder where loads of files are kept
I've read it's a bug in AVG so ur ****ed
k thx bye
Maybe it was the famous XP Antivirus Program. I heard only good things about it.
Brastk.exe is horrible, (XP Antivirus program) I had it like last week. No joking matter.
Don't tell me you actually followed the advice in the other thread about speeding up your computer by deleting System32?

I thought that worked though?

It did for me.

nonono.....i am not stupid

but my AVG said something about trojan horses in "....system32\k234h.dll" something like that so i deleted

my dad also got it on his laptop and he ignored it
If you have the original files somewhere (cd, backup, whatever), you can use the command sfc /scannow to verify all files' integrity. If Windows finds missing, overwritten or damaged files it'll prompt you for a source to replace them with and that's that.

my dad has found something....... it was a worldwide thing, the AVG update was somekind of virus .

i have to boot up in save mode and then do some stuff and it will be fine

Yes, that's a virus
Hmm, never heard of Avast revolting and screwing with people's system files *whistles innocently*

Hope you get it sorted though, consider it a lesson that a better/no AV is needed
Are you able to run it in safe mode? If so then just get important things from there and reinstall the windows.
no i wasnt able to run in safe mode, it just kept rebooting.

but i just reinstalled windows completely, and i still got all my programs in "program files" lol

now i deleted AVG and downloaded avast and some spybot thingy
I'm betting you have Brastk.exe, which makes your PC reboot.

Start the PC and open task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) as soon as you can. Kill the brastk.exe. Leave it too long and it'll either a) Refuse to open Task Manager or b) Restart the PC when you attempt to open the task manager. As soon as your background appears, open it and keep your eyes peeled for "brastk.exe"

Then click Start -> Run -> "MSConfig", navigate to the "Boot.ini" and scroll down to Brastk.exe and uncheck the box. Then reboot.

Then download the fixer which can be found around this site somewhere, and download it and save it as something random like "Cheese".

Reboot into safe mode, run this. Then run a full system scan with AVG/Avast, or whatever AV you use, and download a great little program I came across recently called Malwarebytes. This is a great free anti spyware/malware program. Download the full one, it's free for personal use, such as with AVG and Avast!. Run a full scan with Malwarebytes and fix and problems that occur.

You should still do these steps, even if you think your system is clean. AVG is a good AV program, catching alot of what Avast! misses. Personally, I've used both for nearly a year with no negative results.

Still, glad you got it 'fixed'
thanks

but what anti virus should i use now?

now i have Avast or should i just download AVG again?
Download AVG and run it alongside Avast.
^ LOL ^

I'd recommend Avast, but really it's a personal thing. I've been using Avast for about a year, upgraded to Pro a couple of months ago, and I haven't been infected since then.
