FPS Problem
Well, i tried posting this on an old thread and got no replies, so decided to give it one more try...

My PC specs:
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD 2.66 GHZ 12MB
4Gb RAM
Nvidia 8800GTX
Motherboard: ASUS P5W 64 WS Professional

So, i've been playing with this hardware for a few weeks without any problems... Yesterday the frame rate began to drop when i had more then 2 cars close to mine.
Nothing changed, i didn't change anything anywhere, i have no problem at all with any other game (most of them "heavier" then LFS) running them with everything at max.
When i launch the game, the frame rate goes around 100, but as soon as i leave the pits or some other car approaches, the frame rate drops to 10, 5 and even 2 FPS!
I downloaded and installed more recent drivers, reinstalled the game itself, tried lowering the graphic options to minimum, asked around, and i can't figure out what on earth is wrong with this thing.
If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please post something.
Thanks in advance.

Something odd going on there. That spec of machine should have no problem with LFS even at the highest res with max lod etc.

What else is running while you are playing LFS? Might be worth running the performance manager and seeing what processor usage you are experiencing when the problem occurs.
Although you think you've done nothing what might cripple LFS like you describe, something must have happened even without you noticing it. I'm getting at some virus and spyware issues here. Check your computer for this kind of malicious stuff. And Btw, can you drop you some info about OS you're running?
Make sure you have hardware vertex shading enabled, and simple track disabled. Both are under the graphics menu.
How many RAM windows without any additional opened windows uses? The reason can be that LFS data is starting to write in pagefile.
My OS is Windows XP... And it's a legal copy, so it's up to date at all times. lol
The thing that bugs me the most, is the fact that i don't have trouble with any other game... I can totally state that i didn't change anything in the game configuration at all. I've been playing it for a while and it started doing that all of a sudden.
As for programms runniing at the same time, only TeamSpeak and Windows Messenger, nothing else. Already tried it with no other programm running and still keeps doing that.
I've scanned my computer again and again with anti-spyware scanners and anti-virus with nothing to be found.
This is really becoming an annoying thing, seriously...
Clearly, LFS can easily run at max settings with a computer half as good as what you have. Even if there were some other processes taking up some power, it wouldn't be so bad. The fact that it only happens in LFS probably means that it's either something in your LFS installation, or something in your system that's incompatible in some way with LFS, though I couldn't see what.

That's a good problem for Scawen
OK, mate, ready for some more advanced tests? Click Start>Run>msconfig. A window with several tabs shall appear. One first tab is a "Diagnostic boot/startup" option, so select it and reboot. WinXP will start up in a diagnostic mode where all unneccessary services and background processes are disabled. Try LFS and if it works then you have to figure out which service/application not running in diagnostic but in normal mode causes this.

BTW, you should check your CPU temps, I remember myself having hard time when trying to get LFS running well and it was my CPU overheating and therefore throttling down. You can RealTemp to do so.

Thanks ze ferreira... Meanwhile, checkout buyabrain.com.
A bit extreme but ofcourse its virtually guaranteed to sort the problem out if you can be bothered.

Well, just tried that Diagnostic Boot mode and still happens the same with LFS...
As for CPU temperature, it is watercooled and the temperature is always below average.
Those things you guy are making him try are all stuff that would affect other programs, especially those more resource hungry than LFS, and there are quite a lot.

What you need to look for is something that only affects LFS, and that's either the LFS installation that is somehow wrong, or a very specific thing on your computer that only LFS uses, or uses enough, that would cause problems to LFS only.
I'm betting it's throttling back on the CPU clock speed. Check the cooler is attached propperly and there's no dust.

Also check for viruses.
Can you provide us a screenshot of your Task Manager with "Processes" tab selected? (Start>run>taskmgr). Just to make sure there is nothing nasty running in your box.
As another step you might try to update few drivers, something might have gotten corrupted in some weird way...

boosterfire: You'd be surprised how a certain process can interfere with some another but not with the rest of them. I've seen few cases before...
try deleting or moving to another folder the LFS configuration files named card_cfg.txt and cfg.txt doing so LFS resets to it's default config, maybe that will do the trick, something else, do you have a video card profile for LFS? maybe there is an option thats not ok if so.
Well, what do you know...
After everything i did, as described above, i just deleted those two .txt files in LFS directory and guess what........ it's working!
i'll be damned if i understand this game! lol
Thanks for all the help guys. I hope this fixes it.

Well, it's back to the same again...
Worked fine last night and now it sucks again.
Deleting those files won't help anymore, so i'm back to square one.
I've basically given up figuring this out so, if anyone has any new ideas, please reply.

Why turn of the frame limiter? i guess your monitor is 60hz? then you can't see more then 60. Besides, not many people can see the difference of anything above 60. just like 8-16x aa. 300 fps is just a wast of energy. if i would turn the limited of i would have 500fps, and i don't see it. so it's prety much useless imo.
I'd rather have a limited 80 than a fluctuating 120-500 thankyou.

'Sides, you can't see above your monitors refresh rate, and the human eye can't tell anything above around 32, movies you see on TV or at the cinema in the UK are played at 27 or something like that.
Yeah... should try playing with the frame rate at 3 to 5... Hilarious... NOT! lol
