Exit garage midrace
Ive just seen a guy lose a winning position because someone joined midrace, left their garage and hit the leader in the pitlane, giving the leader a 30 second time penalty for "speeding".

i guess its a bug, but time after time people join and leave their garage right in front of racers.

can we have a system where you are held in your garage if another car is closing in by driving down the pits?

in a perfect world and if people joining midrace showed some courtesy by looking before pulling out of their garage we wouldnt need this, but hey, its an imperfect world!
Well midrace join is allowed since this game is usually just for fun. In more important races the server admin would turn off midrace join so people wouldn't be able to do that. But it's all up to the server admin to do so.
i understand the "no mid race join" option is available, but sitting and waiting to join can be a pain in the *ss at times.

it was just an idea to do away with that annoying wait, but not run the risk of ruining someones race in the pits, even if its for a "serious" race or just for "fun"

In endurance races, there are quite some times when a car (re)enters from the pitbox, but I have NEVER seen anyone crash into a pitting car... Maybe increasing awareness would solve the problem?
I think this is a pretty good temporary solution - maybe permanent if done up nicely with a member of the pit crew or something standing infront of your car while you're unable to move or something.

LFS needs at least a lolipop man and fixed pits for every racer
It think we should have something like this becuase yesterday i learnt my lesson when i came out of the pit and i was not watching and i tapped a guy that was in the top 5 and i didn't hurt him much it would be a paint chip in real life but i learnt my lesson and know on i'm always looking to see if anyone is coming.

Dr Owen prescribes increased caution and situational awareness.

People manage to get out of carparks and garages every day without someone to signal them when to go or even better, to hold them in place! I'm sorry, I can't think of any reason why LfS should take care of a situation caused by complete idiocy, really...

Yes, there are retards here and there who cause such crashes, but imo those people shouldn't be driving in the first place...

Yes, but these people do drive. That's the problem.

I don't really see how that's a bug, tbh.

In RL racing, there isn't generally anything to stop you exiting the pits into traffic most of the time. There's a pit exit light in LFS that could be used, but since Lewis Hamilton can't see it IRL I'm not sure that racers in LFS will either.

As a general improvement, I think it's going to take a really inspired mind to come up with a solution that would work reliably from the pit box to the track. With that distance to drive on the pitlane, and the infinite variation in speed that people drive once they get clear of the 80kph line, I don't think it's programmatically do-able to hold them in the pitbox until there is a gap in traffic that they could slot into. Barriers at the end of the pitlane aren't really the solution because they'd be heading in the opposite direction regarding realism improvements.

Honestly, I think it comes down to racing etiquette. You can't code that into the game. There's this idea that public racing is a free-for-all, but it doesn't have to be at all. Expectations, placed on drivers, will eventually be met. It doesn't have to be the sole domain of organized league racing at all. If you require people to rejoin the track responsibly and kick or ban them if they refuse to take it on board, they'll either learn what's expected or they'll go away. Frankly, either's fine.

Sam I don't think he is refering to when you are rejoining the track but more when you exit the garage into pit lane. If there are drivers in pit lane doing a pit stop or serving a penalty and you join mid race it can be quite difficult to see other activity in pit lane.

So having something that prevents them from entering the pit lane or at least warns them that there is traffic in the pit is a good idea imo especially in pick-up race servers

Ahh.. not the Hamilton problem, it's the safe release Massa problem My apologies, I misunderstood and/or misread.

Yeah, a safe release light is far more feasible and appealing.
