Bassicly ive fooked my hard drive up somehow when i tried to replace it.
Now whenever i boot my computer with the hard drive plugged in, my computer wont go past the boot screen.
Im now going to buy a new 500GB hard drive at some point which will replace it. But ive got data on the hard drive which i dont want to lose :/
So i was wondering if i got a IDE to USB adapter would i be able to see the data on my hard drive? Or is my data lost forever :/

If the harddrive is not broken, you will be able to see your data. If the harddrive is broken, you won't.

Maybe you got first sector or a MFT table corrupted? Try doing this in linux:
dd if=/dev/your_hdd_name of=/somefile bs=2048 count=1 and then attaching your /somefile to this post.

I kind of urm cant.
The problem is that if my hard drive is plugged in my computer wont go past the boot screen. So i cant boot into linux if my hard drive is in.

put the linux disk in iirc u can boot linux from a disk

Indeed you can, but i cant get past the boot screen to put into linux.
If i remove the hard drive then i can get past the boot screen and put from the cd. But then the hard drive is kind of out.... :/

Buy a USB2/Firewire/eSata external caddy. Fit the broken hard drive in it and connect it to another PC in the house/a friend's PC/a library PC. With any luck you will still be able to access some of the data on the disc. A caddy will cost you £10-£30.
