Slow connection recently...
At the start of this week I had a very, very poor phone line with lots of interference. Eventually the phones and net gave up. After lots of phone calls to India, I eventually got through to someone in the UK who admitted there was a fault on the line. Engineer came out and replaced the wire from the telegraph poll to the house and hey presto I was back in business... or so I thought.

I now have a crystal clear phone line but my net speeds have reduced drastically. My router reads down: 5,344 Kbps up: 448 Kbps but in reality the download is averaging at just over 100kbps. I've now got my router plugged into the master socket (in the test socket under the cover at the mo) and tried all 3 micro-filters I have in the house. Still can't seem to get any decent speeds.

Have called BT and after an hour arguing with another guy in India who claims 10secs to load google, and 5mins to load a 10sec youtube video is not a long time. I should only call if it takes 10mins to load a page according to this genius! Eventually he raised a fault and BT have apparently made some changes on the line. I've not noticed anything and they won't take it further till Tuesday...

Anyone got any suggestions?

Tried getting a BT I-Plate?
No, but my problem is it was all fine before. The problem has only come about when the BT engineer had to replace a section of the phone line leading to our house.

At the moment I'm getting a higher upload speed than download... my upload is fine at just under 400kb/s which was what I was getting beforehand. Just my download is only 120kb/s, using speedtest.net to get the numbers.

Supposed to be getting a call from a BT engineer tomorrow morning...
Recently off the phone regarding speed myself....AOL=HELL

10 mins arguing that although i know my router is not covered by AOL, it cant be the router as i tried the one given to my AOL and I was still getting less than 500kbs, previously used too 3500kbs maybe the internet is slowly dying

Anyway after a lot of arguing I decided that it would be best if I just hung up, tomorrow I'll request the 'MAC' number and switch supplier, off to BT I go.

Same thing - we constantly have arguments with the guys at Orange Internet (don't sign up with these clowns) that because we're not using the crappy modem with one wired socket that they gave us 3 years ago, they can't help us.

MAC code will be applied for shortly, off to O2 I go.
Well what do you know, randomly all of sudden I'm getting 3mb download...

If I'd been a day quicker, I'd have suggested ringing your ISP and getting them to check for faults on the line - which is probably what someone did, found a problem and got BT onto it. Line replacements sometimes result in connection problems, as there's quite a bit that can go wrong between your house and the exchange.
