"“Who's going to believe what I say? I’m the rookie,” said Speed."
What a total wanker... telemetry data says he overtook under yellow.
Something's very wrong with F1 these days. You win a couple of kart championships and you think you're the next F1 hero from the moment you start to play with the big guys
The American rookie later told a home audience that he had to stick up for himself to prevent people taking advantage of him because of his nationality.
''The American rookie later told a home audience that he had to stick up for himself to prevent people taking advantage of him because of his nationality''
hes got a point! Would this thread be here if he wasnt American??
Err.. yes. This thread would be here if ANY of the F1 drivers had behaved in such a manner. Drivers in F1 don't behave in this way, no matter what nationality they are. It's definitely nothing to do with nationality.
[EDIT to add] F1 isn't an oily-handed motorsport. It's uberClean. The cars are the very best they can be, the components are the top grade (even the structurally unimportant ones, from what I can figure) and the behaviour of the teams is absolutely impeccable. They're gentlemanly towards the other teams.. their bosses don't directly abuse or insult.. it's squeaky clean from top to bottom. It's a million miles away from WWF.
hehe.. I was thinking along the same lines, after I'd posted. I also saw some old footage of one of the teams (Jackie Stewarts I think) pushing the cars onto the track before a championship race, through puddles and mud.. wow, what a distance we've come in F1.
SS should have realised that he is one of the new boys in F1, and he has yet to prove himself.
all he did was show himself up.
and yes, DC can be a bit "squeaky clean", but he is a real nice guy and a very successful driver.(but anyone remember him giving schumacher the finger?) naughty david!!!!!!!!!
lol, and so would I. Speed made a mistake with his comment to DC. Forget about it. Just because he says the gloves are off, does not mean he is going to go out and punt DC. It means that the rose tinted glasses are off and he realizes that F1 is just as full of wankers and backstabbers as any other human endeavour. DC is somebody to look up to, in some ways. But F1 is about winning, not being the nice guy. DC knows that and so does Scott now.
And what is this crap about the telemetry data showing that he passed under yellow? The flags on the course control the condition in that area, not telemetry data. Plus, there are other conditions where you pass cars under a yellow. SS thought that DC was part of the accident, so he just went on by. He broke a rule, he got a penalty. Case closed.
That article was taken totally out of context, I wouldn't read much into it if I were you. Scott may say what he thinks, unlike a lot of other F1 drivers, but he is far from stupid.
A dickhead is a dickhead doesnt matter one bit where he or she is from...
No he just needs to grow up a little, F1 is "the" big league and one must behave accordingly , still he has been way more entertaining than Kimi and the other guys that drone on looking bored as batshit.
No i mean the way they did the hole " We own both you teams, now let the one with the ferrari engine pass because that would be imbarassing " happend at melbourne.... now thats really not going to show the drivers full potential. Just really annoying.
Yeah, let us know. Out Karting with him and his brother?
But I bet he will be standoff-ish. He has been treated very poorly by the media for his entire professional career. He has had major medical problems that almost killed him. He is now inundated with attention and I think he is trying to learn how to adjust. I don't think he minds doing the interviews and all that, but I think he does not like all the attention when he is just trying to find his way to the bathroom.
The squeeky clean image of F1 is just a sham. There is a difference between acting sophisticated and really being that way. They put on a good show on TV and I do honestly beleive that a lot of the drivers and crews like each other and respect each other. But, just because you use nice four sylible words or four letter words to bitchslap somebody, it is still a bitchslap. Jenson Button is an expert at the art of saying nice words whilst all the while implying that somebody else is a butthole. Scott just needs to learn how to play the game and focus his aggression where it will help him not hurt him.
Can't argue with much, if any, of that. There's plenty of movement between teams not just of drivers, over the years, but also of engineers etc. Never directly say something abusive either to or about your potential future boss. Scott needs to get into the mindset that will get him a drive when his current one lets him go.
Yeah...a few of my friends were in a similar situation. It's a bit silly tbh, because you can still enter if you have previously held a license...it just has to have expired! They guy that won the Clay Pigeon semi final used to be ranked 3rd in the UK for TKMs 4 years ago! LOL It seems the majority of the finalists are pro karters (not surprisingly), which I see as a good thing for me, as hopefully most of them won't have driven much two stroke
I race Club100 TKMs in something called the British University Karting Championship and have done for the past 3 years (http://www.bukc.co.uk) which is great experience, because there are a number of semi pro drivers in there. We had a guy called Simon Pullan racing for our team last year who brought the first TVR home at the Spa 24hrs a few years back :O Also had a couple of ex Super1 people. There's a guy called James Gornall who is the Michael Schumacher of the series. Won every single one of his races despite the random grids (no time for qualifying so a computer program randomly assigns grid slots). I won my first race in an endurance at Buckmore this season. Was horribly wet and on slicks Good fun though.
Do you race in any particular series? What kart you got?
yea did a bit of club 100, was great. i was gunna do 100 national in super 1 this year but its a bit expensive. good luck in the red bull thing, i might be there to watch. should be good.
Yeah...Super 1 can be seriously pricey if you do it properly!
Indeed James is the F Renault guy. He's not racing this year thought, cause of budget issues. He's an impressive racer...I also stole his wet lines by following him at Buckmore :P Haha.
Alex Morgan is a part time member of our team too. He's doing F Renault this year too....he's hoping to get the graduate cup. Smashing his car up at Silverstone won't help things though! £15k worth of damage in 3secs...ouch!
