Dan, it's actually "e" to disarm.

You owe me two arms!

Bit of a mix up between xbox 360 and PC versions there methinks.
i just started playing but, i get too many CTD's here and there. hopefully installing these new drivers will help.

Spolier

Radroaches in the beginning when you try to escape the vault are just... ugh Mole rats outside of the vault are creepy too

Edit: yep the CTDs are fixed now, but crashes when i talk to the guy in the saloon for the mission.
Quote from Sueycide_FD :Spoiler

If you think that's scary, wait for your first Deathclaw to appear behind you... :P
Notice Bethesda have released news of 3 DLC addon packs to come in Jan, Feb and March, and also the G.E.C.K. creation kit for PC aswell.

Looks interesting, I will certainly be interested in the DLC depending on price vs actual content of course.

I am still ploughing through the campaign, spending lots of time doing all side quests and finding unique items etc, currently at level 16 and 35 hours in
I really loved the old Fallouts, but part 3 doesn't kick it for me. Especially the combat is really badly done IMHO, the gunplay feels somewhat unsatisfactory, similar to Bioshock (which was in my eyes one of the most overrated games in recent history) and VATS seems like a sloppy excuse of a tactical combat system, with very borked hit chances. (at everything above 50%, I have yet to miss a shot).

Also, it somehow doesn't drag me in. There are games that make want to play them, but never ever I thought "I want to play Fallout 3 now" when I did soemthing else.
I am quite the opposite, I loved the earlier fallouts, and I also loved Oblivion, however, FO3 is very different from the earlier FO's, and I can see that by doing what Bethesda have done, i.e. tried to make FO3 appealing to those who liked the earlier ones, and also try to appeal to a different demographic, have probably alienated a section of those people who liked the originals.

To me, FO3 is a very different game from FO1/2, I think it works well, I don't like FPS combat, so the addition of V.A.T.S is good for me, I don't really think of FO3 as Fallout 3, it's a different game set in the same "world" as the previous FO's, rather than a sequel.

This makes sense. Kind of like Warcraft compared to World Of Warcraft - different games, just set in the same 'universe'.

Fixed.

The announcement about the GECK is mighty good news though as it's a guarantee for the game's longevity. Already some of the top Oblivion modders have contributed with a few great additions that fit right in, like TalkieToaster's RobCo Certified.
The addition of the G.E.C.K. is the only thing I am going to miss, me playing the xbox360 version, I wonder if there will ever be a way to add community content to the xbox360 version.
If there was, they surely would have of figured out how to do it with Oblivion mods by now. Perhaps a search in that direction would shed some light?

To be honest, already I have a set of player-made mods running in my game that I consider "essential" in terms of gaming experience. Without them my character is just an unstoppable killing machine without even wearing any armor other than a business suit and reading glasses (I've made a Michael Douglas clone out of his "Falling Down" character).
Good point

That looks interesting

The robot enemies are the most fun to deal with so far in my play through, especially Mr Gutsy with his crazy 'commie scum' dialogue. I also laughed out loud when

Robobrain says something like- 'don't feel bad about being defeated by me. I am one of the top military droids in production'.
I have finished the main quest with a Level 17 character now. Quite disappointed with the main story to be honest...

I didn't even expect the game to end at the point i was. The main quest is really a lot shorter than expected.

However, i'll just use the last savegame and keep on playing until i got all sidequests, etc.

Right now, i've started with a new character, exploring the evil side of the game. I started off by killing everybody in Vault 101, then headed to Megaton where the sheriff says hi to you... i told him to give me his hat, which ended in a gunfight... i have his hat now.
Then i killed and robbed everything in sight. Afterwards i blew up the bomb. Ohhh how much fun it is to be evil...

PS: Had a little more than 70 hours of gameplay with the first character.

Next you have to release the ghouls onto tenpenny tower. You get -600 karma for it i think
Only other games I've played at all this year, (and that was only because I was extremely bored), were PS2 games:

Guitar Hero, God of War II & Prince of Persia

Guitar Hero was just a bit of stupid fun but I actually found God of War to be quite addictive. I'm not a fan of pure shoot-em-ups and so the extra skill based stuff you need to do in God of War really added to the fun. Also the PS2 version of Prince of Persia was pretty good too for similar reasons. It's not just about having to kill stuff.
Well I'm quite disapointed, tbh.

My freind let me have his one, and got through Vault 101 pretty cool. I was wondering how long until/if that Anata girl was gunna say she loved you or something, seemed like she had a thing for the character you play.

But anyway. Butch seemed like an arsehole.

After the Vault 101 bit, I got out, and instantly, the game sucked. Why? Crashes.

Crashed every 5-15 minutes, totaly random. A quick googled confirmed that this problem is widespread. I'll be trying the 1.0.000.15.00 or whatever patch to see if that helps, but as for now, I've freed the 10 or somethings GB that the game took up. Shame, because it seemed pretty cool.

Edit : Sueycide dude, I assume you mean video card drivers? I'm on semi-old Catalyst ones, haven't updated for yonks.

Don't forget to become the pint sized slasher, to turn the android in and to bring some slaves to paradise falls Three Dog hates me (should I add him to my counter?)

Yup i updated my video card drivers, and excluded the exe from ffdshow. You have to make sure it's the "real" exe and not the Launcher. Longest stint i did was 4 and half hours. Crashes at this point are most likely from me AltTabing out.
I've played a little more with my good character/savegame. Spent about 3 hours on getting the MIRV Fatman version... all i can say is... get that weapon! It's the strongest weapon in Fallout, and it's pretty EPIC!

I have a pirated copy, I lauch on the Fallout3.exe thing.

AFAIK I don't have the ffdshow, there's no program by that name on my PC. I also updated to the latest drivers today, I even found someone that said disabling the paging file system would help, worked for about 10 minutes, then crashed again. x_X

Since when has piracy been acceptable?

Anyway, back on topic.....

45 hours in, level 19 now, almost levelled up to max, sorta a bit sad there is a level 20 cap, but hey ho.

Still exploring the land, doing all side quests, found a crashed alien spaceship and got a pretty handy alien blaster weapon

I reckon I have a good 20+ hours left till I complete everything, by that I mean, all locations, all bobbleheads (I have only 6 so far), all side quests, all acheivements and the main quest finished.
Quote from danowat :

I have yet to encounter an enemy you cannot kill with one shot with that weapon.
Thats handy then, I am about to trek to the Yao Gaui cave
I reached level 15 or 16, mostly thanks to the slower levelling mods out there and I still haven't touched the main quest, had some good fun taking on quests that required escorts or making NPCs travel (like the "Head Of State" quest) and not using fast travel. Takes an awful lot of walking and scouting to keep them alive through all the encounters but definetely satisfying in an RP sort of way.

Also, there's this kick-ass mod that finally makes super mutants more fun to deal with. Skirmishes between them and high level raiders are fun to observe or even get mixed up in.
