Anyone have this mp3 player? I am an MP3 player noob and we are getting one for my daughter. She is only 8, so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on it. It's just a 4 gigger.

She's never used anything of "tech" before, except for the computer. She's been surfing the web since she was 4 and picked up Google searching out her online Disney and kid games pretty easily.

Well, there was one near-miss when she was 5 and my wife went upstairs for something and she got onto the Walmart toy site. Lucky we were logged out of the site because she had about $3000 worth of toys in the shopping cart :eek:

Was just curious if anyone else has played around with the Sandisk Sansa Fuze in the past.

may i reccoment the Samsung P2

a most excellent player and pobably the closest thing ive used to an ipod killer

The Sansa was better than the P2 on that websites review

I take reviews with a pinch of salt, instead i go from the overal impression of several hours reading/researching.

Yup, the Sansa Clip. It's a bit different than the Fuze that I bought. It was the first one we looked at.

The reason I didn't buy it is, I found countless complaints online about the thing not working and not being able to turn on after weeks or a few months. Just about everything I read about the Clip was a complaint. #1 for 2008 huh? I guess that site hasn't seen the thousands of reviews and forum threads about it not working merely 2 weeks, 6 weeks, or 4 months after purchasing that I read.

She's 8 years old. I'm not the richest person around. She's not getting a $179 mp3 player that she may not even use. The Sandisk Fuze we bought was off Amazon for $30.

Near the end it says the Fuze has the same audio section but bigger screen etc, so the sound quality should be the same. OTOH being a 8 yo she probably cares about things other than sound quality, like "every other girl at the school has <insert fashion model that sells for 500$>"

If you look hard enough every player has its share of problems, most of them are inherently short-lived products that retail for less than a mobile phone with hardware roughly of the same level. Much less effort is put in making them.
