Black Flickering on screen
Hey guys need your help, been playing s2 full for a couple months now with no problems, today i bought a MOMO logitech wheel for lfs - installed the cd, and connected the wheel up. launched live for speed and during the loading screen the whole monitor gives off a couple of static lines then once lfs loads the main menu the screen starts flickering black to the point where I can't see. ctrl+alt+delete works only in full screen mode to exit - shift f4 doesnt work. also when loading windows media player it has started to do it too. can anyone help me out, ive tried disconnecting the wheel, uninstalling software, deleting and reinstalling lfs and it still has the same problem.

note this problem occured after i had installed the wheel

Have you tried the latest drivers from the website? The CD's are often out of date.
ok ive just downloaded and installed lgs460enu.exe (latest driver) and im still having the same problem can someone please help me with this, i havent had a chance to try my new wheel out
I would perform a rollback (completely uninstall the drivers or use a restore point) and see if the problem occurs again in LFS to be completely sure the issue is related to the Logitech drivers.
I'm not saying it is not related, of course, but I would try to exclude cohincidences.
Done that, I would reinstall, recheck, then try using a USB port connected to a different USB hub. For instance, one of the USB hubs in my computer shares the same IRQ of the Video Adapter. That shouldn't give problems nowadays, but you never can tell, unless you're a Windows OS/Intel Hardware guru. I ain't.
hey guys, well i still havent resolved the problem

this is what ive done so far:

the first time i rebooted i loaded up lfs without installing the wheel drivers, game loaded with no problems and the wheel worked without installing anything however the force feed back wasnt working, so i installed the wheel drivers to enable ffb. loaded up lfs and ffb was working however the pedals decided they didnt want to work, so i restarted the computer and reloaded lfs and the screen started to flicker again. so again i rebooted the computer trying to sort the problem through trail and error. on the first reboot i had the updated the gfx card with updated drivers (gfx card is a radeon 9250) and updated the wheel drivers and lfs was still causing it.

did a freash reboot back to default factory setting, only installed lfs and tried playing the game and the lfs screen shows up then start flickering black - once it loads the main menu it is impossible to see anything from there (a few flashes of the menu then it goes black). so it looks like im still having the same problem regardless if i install wheel software.

so far i have done 5 reboots (this reboot i have only loaded lfs - havent updated with new gfx card/wheel drivers). can i do anything from here, or is it best to take the computer back to the place i brought it from and get them to sort it out?

thanks guys for your help, id like to get this sorted out asap as i'm wanting to play lfs with my new wheel.

Have you been using the same USB port each time for the wheel? Worth trying a swap. Bad ports are not unheard of.
well im having the problem with the wheel not connected at all in any usb ports. im not a computer expert but i cant understand what is causing the problem i'm thinking its a faulty gfx card but live for speed was running fine before i installed the wheel+drivers. and even now after the computer has been reformatted with none of the wheels drivers installed the problem is still occuring

im now re-downloading the lastest ati driver/logitech wheel driver and see if i will have any luck - not very hopeful though

Ahh sorry. I misread. (5:30am here)

It sounds very much to me like a graphics card cooling problem. The fact that it happens in Media Player too, especially. I don't know if introducing the wheel and it all going wrong is coincidence or if perhaps plugging in the MOMO powerpack has upset the supply of electricity, spiked and knocked out the fan on your graphics card (I'm making this up as I go along)... but this kind of thing does happen with cheaper PC power supplies.

Check and see, if there is a fan on your graphics card, that it's free to turn okay and doing so when the machine is on. Also check for dust too. Since you're there anyway, you may as well do the same for the CPU and heatsink (though I think it's graphics rather than CPU-related, gut feeling).
ok thanks man ill have a look, give it a clean and check the fan and see if it makes a difference.

edit: ok just had a look at it, both fans seem to be working well - not alot of dust either
Also check DirectX diagnostic (Start, Run, type dxdiag in the box). Perform the directdraw and direct3d video tests and look if dxdiag gives additional info that might be useful.
Does the problem appear in full screen mode or windowed mode too? And in Media Player?
To start lfs in windowed mode edit the second line of cfg.txt in lfs directory:
Start Windowed 1
(0 is full screen, 1 is windowed)
The evidence at the moment seems to point at a faulty graphic adapter for me too but I cannot rule out completely other options, and there are many. Since you reformatted you should also check if all updates are applied, re-download directx and perform an update. Double check vga driver settings.

thanks for that, ok ive run directdraw and direct3d tests:

installed the following programs before i ran these tests:
microsoft .NET framework
latest avi driver

after running the tests live for speed is still having the same problem (screen flickering black unable to see menu)

should i try downloading another version of lfs instead of installing my backed up copy of the game? i had the lateset patch of lfs installed as well LFS S2 Patch Q)

any idea what to do now?
Ok I've downloaded lfs from the site instead of using my backed up copy, i have got the pedals and wheel working no problem however i can only run the game in a very low resolution 800x600 16 bit 75 htz - max resolution i can run the game at - Changing to a higher resolution makes the screen black which although makes the game accessible but it's still crap at a low res

-have got lfs to run at a low res 800x600 16 bit 75 htz
-lfs only runs in full screen mode, pressing shift+F4 putting it into windowed mode and it flickers black erratically
-when in the game even running at a very low resolution i still get black flickers at random times

it looks like the gfx card is at fault but dxdiag test turned out fine??
