Quote from Linsen :Even though I do see the benefits of arranging the grid like that, I think this is sort of against the spirit of mixed class racing. If you're capable of finishing ahead of big GTRs in an XFR or UFR, you should be entitled to your place in the starting grid accordingly, because you earned that position. And likewise if you drive a big GTR and get beaten by a small one you deserve to start behind it in the next race, because you were obviously too slow. No need to reduce the headache for faster cars, imho. Instead, give the bloody talented UFR-racer the chance to finish even higher the next race and score the really big points.

I see what you mean. I was just imagining the drag race down the grid, I would think the big GTR cars would be flying by all the slower cars. I haven't ever raced in a mixed class server so I'm not really sure how it would all play out.

Quote from Becky Rose :Almost identical to what is going to happen in the new CTRA. Have you got our forum access or something? lol.

GREAT!! I want to earn points while racing race cars!

Quote from Slopi :Regardless of how fast you are, it's still your responsibility to pass slower cars safely, not reorganize the game to get them out of your way.

Le Mans used to reserve the first 5 rows for the fastest class regardless of qualifying times.
CTRA-like Class System

CTRA is a great system and I can’t wait for it to come back, but towards the end I was getting tired of driving on street tires, especially with the silver/gold cars. In addition the GTRs and Mini-GTRs have been quite popular on ConeDodgers’ servers lately, so I was thinking of a CTRA-like system for the race cars.

This system would have a class system, with a class for the XFR and UFR, and a class for the XRR, FZR, and FXR. These cars would race on the same server and people would start in the slower class and earn points to be able to race in the faster class. I am currently thinking that the points for each class should be independent. For example, there would be a point leader for each class.

Some other notes:
- Starting grid would have to be reordered so that all of the cars in the faster class start before the cars in the slower class, regardless of finishing order. This will reduce the headache for the faster cars in T1.

- Cars within each class should be balanced for each individual track using the intake/weight restrictions. This could be done automatically based on WR’s or best race laps, or whatever.

- Strict blue flag enforcement when a faster car is lapping traffic. It should actually be quite easy to pass though, as the GTR cars are much faster than the Mini-GTR cars and the drivers in the faster class should be experienced.

- Race slots would have to be allocated so that the entire field of 32 cars would not be one class. Ie, something like there can be no more than 24 cars in a class or something.

Anyways, just floating this idea out there looking for some feedback. I currently do not have a server, but have quite a bit of programming experience (not with InSim though) and could probably get a very simple system together for this.

Quote from Robert123 :Does anyone have a good car sound for the Uf1,Fox,Mrt ? Im struggling to find any

I think those sounds are created on the fly, so you can't just drop a sound file in somewhere...

Remapping F9-F12

I just got my G25 in, and there are 4 red buttons on the shifter assembly that I would like to use to bring up the F9-F12 displays (tires, suspension, pit strategy, etc). I do not see a way to simply map them in the controls section of options. Please let me know if this is possible. From what I can tell I would be able to do it if I switch the the beta patch and scripted it, but I would rather keep with the current version.

Thanks!

Quote from Gimpster :If you people want to explore the performance envelope in your real cars there is a very inexpensive and redily avalable outlet. Autocross. At least here in the US is cheap and you can often fine several venues a month.

Yep, the cheapest safest way to figure out what your car can or can't do is autocross. In the US, join the SCCA and go out to some local events, they're about $20 here. If your region has practice days those are the days to go, you can get 10+ runs on a good practice day down here (FL) .
Race Strategies

Well, I've joined a league and need some input before going in. I will be racing in the XRR and all the races are 100mi/160km long. Some questions:

Quali setup vs Race Setup - basically I'll be using WR setups from team inferno, I know these setups are mostly designed for hotlapping/qualifying, and from what I can tell the inside of the fronts are pretty red after just a few laps (KY GP Long). What changes do people make from their qualifying setup to the race setup as far as the setup and even driving style? Are the softest tires usually the best choice for a race this distance (estimating only 1 stop )?

Pit Stop length - can I tell my crew not to repair damage if it's just a few scapes and bruises to make a shorter stop?

Splits to next/prev car - is there an easy way to tell the time differential between the guy in front of you and behind you? I'd like to know if I'm gaining on the guy in front, or if the guy behind is gaining on me!

And any other tips on these types of races would be great! The longest race I've ever driven is only 10 laps, so this will be a little different (and fun!!).

Thanks!

Quote from ShannonN :From a programming point of view yes you can play with a hex editor and extract what you need, if you know what to look for

Have you sucessfully done this? I have looked at them with the hex editor, and it didn't really stick out...I was thinking about writing an app to do this if I can figure out the pattern.

Thanks!
Help with setups

I've used some of the team inferno setups with ok results, but I assume that a setup for one person isn't always the best for another.

I'm looking for some tips (or a link if there are any tutorials out there) on how to develop a setup. I would assume you go into hotlapping and start with race_s and go from there? The only thing I know to change is the final drive for the length of the straight(s) on the track. I would love a tutorial somewhere that would start with race_s on a given track and go through and say "I'm changing this setting because turn 5 is downhill and off camber" etc for each setting they change so I can get an idea of what is going on...but any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've never used the mouse, can you use analog throttle/brake with the mouse setup? I assumed that throttle/brake would be either the keyboard or the mouse buttons, or do some use mouse with peddles?
I'd like to see these!
