It was the programme on channel 5 where I first saw the car they have some sweet looking evo's too.

Hi all. I am trying to get LFS working properly in Ubuntu 7.10. I can get it running with wine, but I have absolutely no sound, under 20fps when playing (I get over 80 on Windows) and LFS doesn't seem to be fully maximized... I can see the top and bottom panel in Ubuntu while playing LFS, which is annoying. I also get this in terminal when I run LFS;



Is there a guide or anything on how to get this working correctly?

Sometimes when I exit LFS my screen just goes completely black. I don't even get to see my desktop. It happens as soon as I click exit. It's happened about 4 times now and when I manually turn the PC off and restart Windows, I get to the login screen but cannot see the login dialog box at all... I can basically just see the background.
If I enter my password and press enter (without seeing anything but the background) it does login to Windows. Once I get into Windows all I see is part of my background, but no icons or anything. I do ctrl + alt + delete and I can't see the task manager, or nvidia control panel, etc. All I see is the background... To fix this I need to boot into safe mode and do a system restore.

Any idea's what is causing this? because it really sucks. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it is a real headache.

EDIT: Weird... those skins are now fullsize... When I looked earlier they were tiny, about 600x400 !

Hi all.

I haven't played LFS for about 6 months and I have noticed that these new patches has changed the skins folders around.

I have the following folders:
skins
skins_dds
skins_x
skins_y

Now I know in the last patches you just had to go into skins_x, chose a .jpeg skin and simply move it to the "skins" folder.

Since reinstalling LFS and using the newer patches, all the skins in skins_x are .dds files, none of them are jpeg - in all of the skins folders there are no .jpeg files and I can't view the skins either.

I have tried installing a .dds viewer, but can't find one that works with Vista.

I have tried moving some .dds skins from the skins_x to the skins folder, but they are not showing up in-game...

How see the skins and how do I use them?!?!

I do have Linux, and LFS is actually installed on a seperate EXT3 partition from Windows.
I am new to Linux (Ubuntu) and have tried to delete and rename the file but it says I do not have permission. It isn't just that file though, it is all files in my /home directory.

At the moment my HDD looks like this:
Windows XP MCE (17GB NTFS)
/home (60GB EXT3, both Windows and Linux can read/write to this, so this is where all my files are stored)
Ubuntu 6.10 / (12GB EXT3, this is where Ubuntu is installed)
Then the linux swap partition.

I'm not sure what's up with my file permissions in Ubuntu, but like I said above for some weird reason I can't delete, rename any files in my /home because I do not have permission. I have tried logging in as root, it made no difference.
Maybe you could help?
I think once I get the file permissions sorted on ubuntu, I should be able to delete this stupid file.

I am not willing to reformat my HHD, I done that just last week!

This is what my name in LFS looks like:


As you can see the < and > symbals on LFS are different (in bold, etc) so it seems Windows can't use those symbals, so uses < instead, which has caused a whole load of problems.

I think I will email the devs about this.

Very frustrating...

I was playing earlier in FE Gold, my second play with the new TEST patch and all was well until this happened:








When I was in birdseye view it was OK. The weird thing is, others in the server could also see the glitch when they were spectating me...

Since installing the W patch, I have noticed in my Players options a new option that says "other players" and has both names I use when racing.
The problem is, I can't delete these names or do anything to them, it says "cannot open file <myname>".

Then earlier when I installed the new W9 TEST patch, I wanted to backup my old LFS folders, so I tried to copy and paste them, but I couldn't because it couldn't move or delete this file in the misc folder.

It's still laggy on alot of the servers and I can only see 8.

I've been playing the demo for a bit and I am getting over 100 FPS now, so hopefully reinstalling fixed whatever it was.
I will email the devs and ask for an unlock.

I have been getting ridiculously low FPS for my system specs on LFS.
My computer specs are below:

Intel Dual Duo Core 2 2.0Ghz CPU
2GB DDR2 RAM 533Mhz
256MB 7900GS
100GB 7200RPM HDD

Sometimes my FPS drops to 20, which is just stupid. I turned AA and AF off and it makes barely any difference. I have played around with settings and nothing works.

So I decided to reinstall LFS and now when I try to unlock my game it says "Unlocks for this month all used".
This is stupid, so I can't reinstall LFS? Or I need to wait a month ??

This is all so frustrating and I've just about had enough of it.

My PC is OK because it can play BF2 on all high with AA and AF with smooth FPS, it's only LFS.
It looks like I can't play it for a month now anyway.

Naa It's ok. I love this game to bits and I'm not going to let the silly cops and robbers kiddy servers ruin my fun.
I had another go yesterday, I was the ONLY cop in the server and someone tried to ban me again for crashing into him.
I will be giving the cops and robbers a wide birth, seems to be full of childish kids. I hope they had fun without any cops... illepall

I just played this for the very first time.

Now I have only had this game for a few days. I joined the server and sped away from the cops, I accidently crashed into another cop and I was banned from the server by voting...?

Where can I find the rules for this?

So what do you do? Just drive 30mph around doing absolutely nothing?
