Quote from ElvisArg :Yap. We are indians. We still ride horses and hunt for a living.

Or maybe you are an ignorant.

What?!? Are you saying Indians ride horses and hunt for a living? And I here I thought they rode elephants and programmed software for a living...

You are soooo racist man

Bump.

Since GT5:P is out, might as well share some PSN names in the hopes there will be private races (or are there already?).

My PSN is: GiantWeirdo

I know. I know, GT5 is a pretty poor online racer. It looks really damn good though . Maybe by the final GT5 release it will grow up and provide an online experience almost as good as LFS.

On the secondary topic, I have to agree with some of the other posters. You have an expensive and nice SLI GPU setup and a fast CPU, yet you went cheap on the monitor. You see everything through the monitor, its almost the most important part. You should really be running a nice 24" widescreen even if you have to turn some Crysis settings down. Its still going to look better than the <19"!

I've had problems from time to time with CTRA servers too. I just moved into a new place and am not sure if its my connection, but I do race on CTRA alot. So I'm hoping its just them. Smile

Vsnyc - Force On <----why are you using this?

This was my thought too. Not sure what you mean by "smashing" but LFS is the first game I notice "tearing" in. Turning on V-sync eliminates this phenomenon. 60FPS is fine anyway (If you have LCD, that's the framerate you'll be limited to with V-sync).

Really, if you want to know, spend some time at the drag strip.

I found with the non-GTR or formula cars, you want to make your shift before the shift light comes on in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gears. This improves acceleration off the line. Maybe its just my "human lag" and even though I'm shifting earlier, I'm really shifting closer to the optimum point than if I waited for the shift light, but it is quicker.

Quote from glassonionz :I just want to say thanks to LFS team cos they help me to save a lot of money last 2 years :-)
Before buying LFS I wasted a lot of money every 3 or 4 months. The new hard for my pc was a must, cos i want to play lastest videogames, so i needed a new 3d graphics cards, or more ram, or more CPU power every this short period of time.
Last 2 years I only play LFS, no time for games now, only LFS simulator.

Money I Saved? between 1000 or 2000€ in last 2 years, maybe more. Every day I play LFS im saving more money, cos my PC runs S2 perfectly and I dont need more PC power until S3 arrives.

Thanks a lot SCAVIER, you are the best!

True, LFS runs great on modest hardware, but damn does it look good on a widescreen monitor with 8XAA and 16XAF!!
4xAA or more really makes the game look lush.

Quote from Racer X NZ :Have you checked LFS
Options -> Controls -> Axis? ( sorry but I'm at work so can't check the prog )

In here you can reset your steering axis etc so try having a play here.

It may be a Vista issue tho so see my earlier post lolillepall

Oh yeah, that solved it!

I still had the wheel problem when I reinstalled WinXP, then I got your post here. Thing is I don't know if I ever noticed that menu when I first installed the wheel. Must've just been set up good enough for me not to think anything was wrong. I must say it drives better than it did before now that I've recal'd!

So end result. DFP works perfectly fine in Vista. It was my fault for not calibrating the wheel in LFS.

So, I'm still working on getting my wheel working in vista. The DFP pedals seem to work fine, but my steering is off center and WAY too sensitive in LFS. However when I look at the device properties in windows, everything looks like its calibrated just fine (not that I can find a calibrate button anyway).

Is this a Vista specific problem, or am I just being dumb and forgetting to set something up in LFS?

Nope, haven't got the DFP working in Vista yet. May have to do a dual boot it looks like.

I have a similar problem. I suspect its HP printer software checking for updates.

My LFS concern is this: no other game kicks me out to the desktop. LFS is the only one that does not properly deal with this update program starting up in windows.

I also have the problem. There is a unnamed program shown on the task bar when I get kicked out to the desktop which closes within 2 seconds so I can never see which program it is.
I really think it is the HP printer software I have installed checking for updates but I can't be sure.
Like others it happens twice after I boot-up my computer.

This is really a problem with LFS. Another program starting up shouldn't kick the program out to the desktop. None of my other games do this.

I agree that people shouldn't restart so much on the shorter races. Probably a good compromise though is to get the other racers to agree before the race start that you'll limit restarts to 1 or 2 times. Just make that statement before the race and enough people will agree with you that the 3rd restart won't get enough votes.

The FOX seems to be a very popular car as its fast and easy to drive. You'll find this car used on Blackwood GP and Aston North quite a bit, so that car and those tracks are a good place to start since you'll usually find people racing on those combos.

DTM is a great series. Come check it out as there are still plenty of openings in the NA division of the league.

Quote from yegadoyai :Yellows are trickier than blues IMHO. I came round the last corner on Westhill Reversed to find that the guy in front had tangled with someone else. Yellows are displayed but clearly as it a straight I'm going to lose a ton of time if I lift much. The guy behind tucks in behind me and matches my speed. The guy in front looks like he's gathered it together and I pick the normal racing line down the straight to avoid hitting him, but he does not see this and instead of putting on the brakes he rolls into our path. Guy behind doesn't have a chance, he is millimeters from my bumper and is just matching my pace. We collide, now, clearly I didn't lift half as much as I would have done in real life, the real life crash probably would have killed us all But was the accident caused by me and the guy behind me or by the numpty spinner who didn't check the track?

To answer your question I have to say both were the cause. More so the yellow flagger, but the guy on your tail should have also seen the 3rd car and perhaps been more cautious. Its not like you brake checked. You lifted to avoid the 3rd car and the guy behind you didn't react (or plan) accordingly.

So back to the guy(s) involved in the yellow flag: Sounds like the track was clear so he decided to get back on, but then you 2 came up on him quickly. Being the car that was just involved in the incident he should still be getting out of the way of any cars that were not involved or affected by the incident. He clearly still was affected as he was not up to normal speed by the time you reached him so he is at fault. He needs to check his mirrors.

In MSConfig?
I don't even know the program name because it loads and closes so quickly so I wouldn't know what service to look for in MSconfig.

Is there something like the windows event log that shows what programs were run and when? I don't see anything of the sort in windows manager. That would help me find the program's name.

Quote from Forbin :If you want to scare yourself silly, do a couple laps around a familiar track (BL1) in a familiar car (GTi). Then hop in the BF1.

I would highly recommend working your way up to the BF1, though. If you go with it first, you start comparing all the other cars to the BF1 and they all seem so slow by comparison (because they are).

Oh man, the first thing I did after buying S2 was join an FO8 race. After spending a couple months on the demo, I was grinning from ear to ear all night. The formula cars are so fun with all that downforce and LFS is so real. It was kinda funny how excited I was after driving a formula car. After all, its just a game isn't it
LFS self minimizing issue

I have a problem with my PC and LFS. For the first hour or two after booting up my PC, while running LFS in full-screen mode, windows will kick me out of LFS and minimize it. This of course screws up my race. My solution is to run in windowed mode if I've just turned on my PC, but I'd rather now have the problem at all.

So this only happens maybe once every 20-40 minutes for the first hour or 2. So its not too often, but its pretty reliable this will happen a few times after rebooting the PC or turning it on. What I see is some sort of app starting in windows. There is a box for the app in the task bar, but it has no text and just the generic exe icon (white box with a blue border). This app box disappears from the task bar within a second or two after being kicked out of LFS. So I've never been able to get a screen capture of it, or look in task manager to find what it is. My guess would be its probably Trend Micro searching for updates... but I don't know for sure.

I'd say its my problem to deal with but LFS is the only game I have that minimizes when this apps starts up. GPL doesn't. GTR doesn't. UT2004 doesn't.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have to agree that $60 USD is probably too much. If you know anything about marketing, its that the market will pay for it what they want to pay for it. It doesn't matter how much it cost you to develop it, games tend to be in the $45-55 USD range.

I would pay $60 knowing what I know about LFS, but that doesn't matter to the consumer who knows nothing about the game. They will have trouble swallowing such a high price and it will stunt the growth of the game's community.

Kind of a related question:
What kind of bandwidth is required to run a LFS server? Minimum bandwidth plus bandwidth per car?

Just wondering if someone with a cable modem that only has 16KByte/S upload speed has enough bandwidth to host a race.

Wow you take the game too seriously

I understand where you're coming from. You really try to be a clean racer and then some schmo comes in and causes problems. But that is the nature of public servers, you run into those types of "obstacles". I actually enjoy passing them (or surviving them), its part of the fun. You just have to expect a little of that on public servers. I don't think its that rampant.
