Quote from BuddhaBing :Generic_Racer : I'm curious what factor(s) made you choose LFS over all the other racing games that are available?

Well I narrowed it down to LFS and Rfactor as simbin games are not known for their good net code (Great single player though) and I didn't really consider any other games. I was not looking for the most "realistic" game but wanted a game that actually had a learning curve to get the most enjoyment out of and also a game that you couldn't drift or slide around corners and still be as quick as not sliding. I think the deciding factors between LFS and Rfactor was probably how good my momo felt when playing the demo of LFS (felt better than any other racing game I had tried without any setting up) and looking at the numbers of Rfactor players online with so many different mods I thought it would be rare to get a good race at any random time without joining a racing league (I cant commit to racing the same times each week etc)

The one thing I did notice in all of the forum comments that I read was this constant argument over which 'sim' (apparently they are not games anymore) was the most realistic. To me LFS didnt feel unrealistic and proper racing lines, throttle and brake control seemed to give better times and thats all I care about as far as realism goes.

All valid points about making the game less realistic but while were at it we should get rid of the map, not allow any view except cockpit, not allow race restarts, get rid of the virtual mirror, get rid of the virtual dials , disable auto gears (and not allow anyone to play unless they have a manual clutch) and to top it off , not let the game start up unless the room tempreture is at least 45 degrees celcius and they have a brick straped to their heads (to simulate a racing suit and helmet)

But seriously, it was just a suggestion that I would like but anyone could choose to turn off.

Cheers
A small radar system

I would like to see some sort of radar system that shows other cars relative position on the track (along with the track boundary) within a couple of car lengths of your car. I think it would make sim racing a bit cleaner as you could then easily glance at the radar map when approching a corner/bend to see if anyone is sneaking up on your inside or outside, and adjust your line appropriately. At the moment we have mirrors to check and can turn left or right but it is nowhere near as good as using peripheral vision when driving a real car, so I think it would be a very worthwhile addition.

Having spent the last few weeks trying to decide what racing game I should get that I would want to spend some time learning I cant really say that I saw much about LFS except what I read in forums. It seems that quite a few Rfactor racers constantlly put LFS down but after playing the demo of LFS I could see for myself that it is a great game and is also still developing into becoming even better.

I certainly agree with what was allready said about the rsc forums though, when I had a look at 1 thread about the upcoming GTR2 there was 5 or 6 pages of people arguing over the implementation of windscreen wipers in the gameillepall

The sad fact is that a huge percentage of people that play racing games belive that GT4 really is the "real driving simulator". I have seen arguments in general gaming forums about which is the most realistic driving game, GT4 or Forza

Thanks for the suggestions. Its good to know that I wont spend too much time getting up to speed on a combo that is hardly ever raced online

So what would be the most popular car/track combos that are played online?

Sim Dad of 5 here. Its good that all of my kids love to jump on the pc and have a race but it does get anoying when I can't get much time on my own computer. I think that playing sim games on my pc has made my kids much better drivers and they can easily beat all of their friends (and some of mine aswell) when playing console racers.
Hi all, new to LFS

I had been looking for a racing game to get into for a while now and had narrowed it down to LFS and Rfactor. Played the demo of LFS for a few days and I have to say I am very impressed with it so far and decided to purchase a licence yesterday. I look forward to some great online races once I do a bit of practice off line to learn the unlocked cars and tracks a bit more.
