Ohh look the system might be okay compared to some, but we still have a huge proportion of completely incompetent drivers, there isn't really anywhere near enough training (sounds like an issue in both of our countries) so people have terrible attitudes and no awareness because they've never seen a car at the limit (including simply just braking in a straight line!). The main problem over here is that you can actually get an 'automatic' license, that feature breeds the worst drivers in the world, because none of those people actually learn to drive. I could go on about it for hours, but all these silly driving aids just make it worse.
The only reason that I did so much practise etc is because I actively chased it, and I was completely interested in learning to drive well. You can still scrape through if you don't give a shit
It would be so nice if the roads were reserved for people who have an interest in driving, and genuinely enjoy it. They should just invent a system to teleport people who don't like driving, so the roads can be enjoyed by all who us them :P
Klutch, that's pretty recent compared to the shit I work on most of the time :P
UK dude, I don't know what the regulations are like over there, but I wouldn't want to hit the road with under 10 hours of practice. Things may well be quite different over here but I had 200-250 hours before I got my probationary license over here, including towing, four wheel driving, circuit racing, motorkhana'ing, night, day, rain, hail, country, city, and over here you're "supposed" to have 120 hours before you do your license test, but that's just a new 'rule' that most people don't pay much attention to.
Yeah when I'd painted the top coats of my car and the resto was nearly finished, I started puttings things back together and testing the electrical systems (admittedly there aren't a whole lot in a rana! lol) and yeah there was a whole bunch of problems that just came from crappy connections, went around everything and cleaned every terminal (joint, earth, whatever) so it was shining bare metal (can use anything for that - sandpaper/scourpad/wire brush/glass strand brush etc) and coated it in a product that stops the surface from oxidising so they don't go bad again in any hurry. Every globe glows twice as bright now! hahaha probably less of an issue with a more recent vehicle like yours
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there aren't any nice driver vehicles over there, but everyone on here is driving plastic econoboxes so you're not doing yourselves much justice, and I think you will find a lot of the 'good vehicles' that you have over there are available worldwide, not just in Europe.
You might have heaps of exotics that I don't know about, but if they are stupidly expensive to buy and keep on the road, what's the point?
Ahhhh... I can't imagine a place to live that has WORSE vehicles, personally.
I don't want to come across as really rude, but it's going to anyway. I go through this thread and everyone is driving front wheel drive plastic econoboxes, that's half the reason I don't check in here very often, it's all so monotonous and uninteresting. You guys get Caterhams, that's awesome - we don't get them, and you get a lot of unattainable super cars (which I don't have a huge interest in, but if you consider that if you did, you would have exorbitant costs of keeping them running on the road - europe seems to have silly car prices, insurance prices and petrol prices, so it's not really something I'm missing anyway).
The other day I saw a Sunbeam Tiger over here. We still get all the classic MGs, Triumphs etc, they aren't really my kinda thing but I can appreciate any decent vehicle. We get crap cars over here like Saabs and Citroens too, but we just leave them for the people with no taste or brains.
Do you actually know of what exists that isn't available where you are from?
Unlike clippit, I'm not from a rural area so I don't have to put up with heaps of shit roads etc (even our good roads have nothing on NZ though - every road over there is a tarmac rally stage :P), but mate you don't need to do the whole "in the interest of balance" thing lol. In Australia, the grass is greener.
Yeah absolutely I mean I only bought it the other day but the average server is pathetic, I've found myself entering DEMO servers occasionally because they're the only ones that are properly populated. Is LFS dying in the arse?
Remember we're talking some plain jane run of the mill plastic bubble here, he won't notice any difference in the unsprung weight (not denying that unsprung weight is important, but not in this instance).
I don't think cross-drilled rotors will give any more bite, I think in this scenario they would just be a big wank.
I'm not European so I'm pretty biased - not having a un-natural attraction to FWD four cylinder cars, but I think the Scirocco wasn't what LFS needed at all
Re: Cracking rotors. You know when you go to get a roadworthy certificate, and they measure the thickness of the disc, and if it's worn down too much it's unroadworthy? That's because they are scared of excessive heatsoak; less meat to spread the effect of the friction over - the theory is if that occurs pretty severely, the rotor will disintegrate
It will be great. The camera in my phone will be amazing and computer games will be so good that I will get rid of my social life and just do the same shit that I would do otherwise, but I will do it on some kind of multimedia device rather than doing it in real life.
A tiny RWD, rear engined car (like the original Fiat 500) to compete with the UF1000 would be cool, and then have a race version of it as well.
A muscle car or two in the same class, maybe one slightly lighter with better handling but less in the engine department and vice versa; the cars in LFS are all a bit European :P
I'm into modified production cars, I would love to see something like an XRG with semi slicks, a rollbar and race seats, some weight taken out, hotted up motor with a small turbocharger or supercharger on it or something, nothing crazy, just a nice cross between the street cars and the single seat full slick tyred race cars.
It's all written about in that CarDomain link, but it's a Holden 202 cube (or 3.3L) in-line pushrod six, backed by a four cog single rail
Cheers Klutch, I don't like VR Commodores or anything haha (not really a modern car person). I don't consider myself a 'Holden man' more than a Ford man - I'm hugely into Jap stuff too, I just like good classic cars and Toranas are one of the best. What do you have mate?
I heel and toe on the street all the time. It just makes me laugh when I hear about cars with stupid electronic features like the one you guys just mentioned. What a wank lol
Yeah I thought I mentioned all that in the first post. But I can't always use a wheel where I'm playing and with a keyboard that means that all four of your wheels will lock up every time you touch the brake, just so you have access to a locking handbrake when you want to hang the arse out
Hey guys I don't know if anyone else has suggested this before, but I think it would be a really good feature in LFS. It's in RFactor I know, don't know about any other games specifically...
Most of the time I use mouse & kb so I generally put the maximum braking pressure pretty low so it doesn't lock up excessively when I don't have an analogue control over the brakes.
But if I'm doing motorkhanas/autocross etc, sometimes a setup I make will have really low braking pressure because the car never reaches high speeds, but this means that the handbrake barely works at all; definately not enough to lock up the rears and hang the arse end out around a cone or sharp corner.
Your thoughts? Would this be easy for the devs to incorporate in the next version do you think?
Hey all. My name's Heath and I've had LFS demo since before the LX came out haha got fairly into drifting and racing on Blackwood but only bought a license yesterday
I'm 19, I live in Melbourne, Australia. My world revolves around cars and here's my main pride & joy that I bought and started restoring when I was 14
I play Call of Duty 4 and LFS in my free time :P
I'm not interested in shooting people in real life but I do love motorsport, I've done a bit of autocross/motorkhanas, drag racing, circuit racing, hillclimbs etc too
