I'm driving the standard setup, I have no notion on how to make it better whatsoever.

Hi, it's me again.

I'm starting to race a bit online, primarily trying not to cause crashes

I'm usually racing AS Club in the Fox (don't know if that's good to start).
But my question is:

I only seem to be able to pass opponents who really made errors (crashing/spinning/etc), and not by speed only. I notice some cars actually seem to go much faster than mine (same car tho).

Can the setup matter a lot?

Also, I heard there was a program you could use to analyse you're driving or something. Is there any such thing that can help me?

I've only been playing for a couple of weeks now, and I just got through all the training courses.

Should I now pick a car/circuit and start hotlapping to improve my times/driving, or are therer servers I can go to? ie. newbie servers where you can learn and don't get hammered into the ground if you end up hitting someone... :-)

Alright, so all the G25 behaviour is normal and I just have to practice a bit more to get decent times on that course?

Wonder how I'm gonna take those 180° turns tho, it seems like you need to go soooooo slow.

Hi, I recently bought LFS and a G25, and am still racing the training levels.

I got LFS a few days before my G25 so I started racing using a mouse.
Now I've got my G25 I'm doing all the levels I did before again.

All went very smooth using the G25 (easier than using a mouse) untill the autocross track (driving the MRT). I found it pretty easy using a mouse, but now I'm having trouble using the G25.

Some problems:

My wheel is set to 900°, but if I steer left or right I reach the point where the wheels of my car won't move anymore after 90° (I can still turn my G25 much further, but the wheels of my car won't move anymore).
Maybe this is just how the MRT behaves?

Secondly, if, using the G25, I drive straight through, start turning left or right and immediately slam my brake, the car will go straight through even do my wheels are turned.
Using the mouse, the car WILL turn. Which is the normal behaviour?

Third, if, using the G25, I keep my brake pedal down, and try to turn the wheel, the force feedback keeps me from doing so.
So I can't turn while keeping the brake pedal down.

Another problem with my G25.

When I play LFS the wheel only does 180° instead of 900°.
When I start the logitech profiler, it says force feedback is off, and degrees of rotation is 0°. I can slide it back to 900°, but if I exit the screen and go back, it's back at 0°.

Oh how I hate logitech sofware that comes with their devices...

I notice that my G25 automaticly turns each way at least one time when shutting down or starting up my computer, is there any way to turn that off?
It seems so stupid.

Thanks, that did the trick.

So.. my G25 has arrived.

I'm having problems assigning the controls in LFS tho.
On default, both gas and brake are active (without the pedals being pressed).

I tried reassigning them, but to no avail.
The brake pedal is on the same axis as the gas pedal (but reversed?) and I could only assign an axis to 1 function.

Any help?

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Can't wait to get my G25.

Been playing around with the mouse a little bit.. how does a wheel compare to this in LFS? Does steering become more natural by far?

'Are' there fairly advanced players who still use anything but a racing wheel?
Hi there!

Hi,

I just bought Live for Speed yesterday (and already a new patch today.. nice ).
Haven't really played yet, because I'm waiting for the G25 I ordered a couple of days ago.

I wondered if anyone could give me some advice, for example:

Which car is good to start driving if you're a complete newbie? (I presume to start with FWD's?)
Should I start using an automatic or start learning it the hard way with manual gearbox? (with clutch? )

Now, a really noob question:
If you want hardcore laptimes, will you driver better when manual shifting using a clutch, compared to driving an automatic? (eg. shifting automaticly happen at exact the right times?).
Ofcourse it adds realism, and much more fun eventually, but I was wondering.

Thanks in advance,

Lacroix
