My G25 Setup

I've had my Logitech G25 for about 2 or 3 weeks now, but I'm having trouble putting it somewhere which is not only good to use but also doesn't cause any problems.

I did have it mounted where I usually have my keyboard and mouse, but I found it too much of a nause to take it off and put it back on all the time when I wanted to play racing games and when I just wanted to play a first person shooter game or talk on messenger.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I could have it so it's easy to swap between keyboard and steering wheel?

What a lucky guy

That's alot of generosity right there, I don't quite understand why anyone would do that for a total stranger but still, very nice thing to do.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :I personally find it difficult to work the pedals without wearing shoes...

I've tried racing in my shoes and I feel it harder to "feel" how hard I'm pushing the pedals. I always race in socks, but I might try without, feels nice and cold on the bottom of my feet

Quote from bbman :It also could be he was bumpdrafting you without your knowledge, as he recognized you from the forums...

Bumpdrafting = using the speed advantage of the draft to nudge the car in front so both cars are getting faster...

I highly doubt that, he could have quite easily just driven past me.. But obviously if he did recognise me from the forums and was doign this.. Full apologies to him, I didn't realise this was even possible to make the car your drafting from to also go faster.

But I highly doubt it was this.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I don't use the same username on the game as on these forums, so that is quite impossible that he recognised me...

I agree. It's not something I usually do, but for one, he was obviously fish tailing me, he was in the faster car I was in the much slower car, I tryed moving slightly to the left to let him past, but he was keeping a steady speed right behind me, following my line completely. He kept nudging me too, so I knew he was just going to push me into the barrier at the next corner and I'd be left annoyed as usual on this demo, so instead of having to leave annoyed or crash and be annoyed, I did something about it.

Quote from AndroidXP :Congratulations, you're now a wrecker yourself!

What was I supposed to do? Wait till we got to a corner so he could ram me right into the barrier?

In some situations, attack is the best form of defence.

I know this is off topic, but something really quite funny just happened. I had this annoying wrecker idiot right up my behind, kept nudging me, he was in the fastest car in the demo I was in the slowest, and he was basically fish tailing me to annoy me, so just as we were going over the start line area, I braked really hard, he went straight into the back of me, went spinning off the track and crashed and I drove on.

Ahah, damn wrecker got what was coming to him!!

So if you go on the grass, it'll be there untill you pit??

There was this one time I was just about to overtake somebody (This was on the demo by the way, so it's more understandable) and just as I was going around him (it was on a straight and where he swerved was totally out of the line he was in) and just as I was passing him, he barged me off the road, making me spin out of control and crash and he carried on.

I would've accepted an apology but what he did was obviously on purpose.

I just went out to the airfield again with my Mum, in her new car (It's a Mini, one of the new ones)

I noticed how much different it is compared to driving with my G25. Firstly, the accelerator is much more sensetive in real life, I hardly put my foot down and the revs were already up high, also changing gears doesn't feel as smooth. I feel I improved a bit since using my G25 though, as I have a deeper understanding of how cars work (at a faster speed, lol).

I always use the clutch on my G25. It's part of the experience!

No 6 speed gear box? Not interested! I'll stick with my G25

Quote from SlamDunk :In addition to FOV you might also try changing the "Acceleration shifts viewpoint" values, forward shift to max especially, and set "Look function" to Steer to have the game send you additional signals of the behaviour of the car. I really like to use those features since they make the experience quite a bit "stronger" for me, so to speak.

How do I put that on??

Ok thanks guys I'll just have to wait another month untill I can come play proper races with you guys online. I'll just race alone for now
Crazy Bots!

I'm only playing the demo, but I was wondering, are the bots on the full S2 game as crazy as on the demo? On the demo, they take no consideration to you being on the road and simply ram into you, 90% of the time causing you to spin off the road. It's exactly the same as online in the demo. Full of people ramming you off the road instead of racing you!

Nice driving! That track looks awesome, too. Makes me want a license even more.

Yeah I definately agree with the way it makes it look like you're going slower. I don't think I'll go as far as taking a cardboard cutout with me next time I'm with my Dad lol, but I get the idea. I sometimes look outside the window whilst we're driving and say "Wow this doesn't look like 70MPH, even though it feels like it!"

Edit: Another thing, whilst I was driving around at the airfield in my Mum's (old car, Toyota Yaris lol), I was going really slow, about 20MPH at most, but to me, because it was my first time and I was in control, it felt much faster.

Oh and another thing, I am now certain my Brother and Dad were going much faster than they thought. They were in the high revs of the 3rd gear, which is around 50MPH on the demo cars, so they were obviously going much too fast without knowing it, because it doesn't really look that fast. I was driving out the pits, down that narrow road, and I was doing about 40MPH, which seemed quite fast, with the barriers moving relatively fast beside me, but then when I got onto the open track and did around 40/50, it seemed really slow. Obviously my Dad and Brother didn't realise how fast they were really doing.

I'll tell them to keep a closer eye on the speedometer and let them have another go, because when going at the right speeds, the car grips fine

Edit: Thanks Jakq, I'll give them a go now.

Edit 2: Where do I put these files???

Quote from mrodgers :I'd second this comment. When comparing LFS driving to real life driving, you have to take into consideration the car setup. Basically, you have a car set up from the factory with induced understeer and soft suspension for mass transportation. In LFS, you have the car set up for laptimes in a "controlled environment", ie, on the track. Try some of Bob Smith's "road going" setups, then let your dad and brother try it out. Bob's sets will have much greater suspension height, much softer suspension, and gearing more like a normal road car.

Do these setups work on the demo version? I'm sick of idiots barging me off the track online on the demo version, need something to keep me occupied on single player.

I use 720 degrees for my G25, if I use any less the wheels (and wheel animation) go way too fast!

That video is impressive!

And to the guy that asked, nope I don't have a driving license yet, I'm applying for my provisional this month though. I've only ever driven a car at 50mph max, and that was on some runway with many potholes, so I just went with what was happening and took it for what it was. But after my Dad and Brother had a go, they said "No... A car would easily hold to the road at that speed"

Either way, like I have said many times before I find the game very enjoyable.

Quote from Nevermore :ramsy66: You also have to remember that S2 racers are MUCH friendlier too!

So far haven't had the greatest experience, at least not on the demo. I'm pretty crap on this game, so I do my best to be considerate to the better people by letting them past. At this one point there were 2 guys both coming up behind me pretty fast, so I attempted to get myself off the track by braking into the grass, didn't go all too well, I ended up losing grip and skidding straight back onto the road!! Both drivers hit me, but both managed to get back into their line pretty fast.

After this happened (A MISTAKE!) 5/6 people voted for me to get banned, so I said "Great, make newcomers feel welcomed!" and I got a quick response of "F*** you!" and then some insult about my driving.

That made me feel intimidated for the rest of the race and I didn't enjoy the rest of the race very much.

I hope there aren't any more people like that on S2!

Quote from Nick A :Remember the cars in LFS are more powerful than your Dad's road car (probably!) In real life you wouldn't drive so fast into corners (if you did it would slide around like on LFS) but in the game it's much harder to get the sensation of speed so there is a tendancy to drive faster, and also because you're racing and in real life you're not (usually).

I can't believe you bought a G25 before buying an S2 licence. Sort it out!

Lol! Yeah I do need an S2 license, but I'm already borrowing the £180 it cost to get the G25, so first I need to pay that back!

It seems the general response I'm getting is that a game can't always simulate the feelings you get in a car, i.e. G-Force, sense of speed. I accept that fully and the game is enjoyable and that's what counts.

And for the people that speculated my Dad's car lol, his car is actually pretty fast, it's a chipped Golf GTI (I think it's GTI), and I'm no expert on cars, but it is pretty damn fast! Basically it's hard to keep your head from being pulled back and hitting the head rest when he accelerates quite hard. And my brother drives a crap car, can't remember what it is but it isn't very good, slow, cheap, but he's young so it's alright for him.
