Thank you, @elputas! That must have been the software change that had occured since I first tried LFS in VR. It was part of a Windows 10 update, and I know from the Assetto Corsa forums that the general concensus is that the Quality/Performance option in the WMR setup is bugged (Quality actually gives you better performance than Performance in AC).
Yes, I have that patch installed, and it doesn't make any difference for me
VR view of both eyes at once doesn't show anything strange, either directly from LFS or from Steam VR. I have tried various experiements (looking left, looking right, tilting my head both directions) and then overlaying the left eye over the right eye in Photoshop, and it appears to be outputting the correct view to the VR View screen.
I don't really know how to capture the effect I am seeing (and it is only the right eye that is wrong). All I can do is describe what I see through my right eye. It's as if the screen has a central pivot point, and the direction I look controls how the screen pivots. Look to the right and the RHS of the screen gets closer / LHS of the screen moves further away, and vice versa.
-EDIT- I have just noticed that if I increase Vertical Field of View to 100 the strange movement of the right eye is fixed, but now the left eye is behaving strangely (almost like the opposite of how the right eye looked).
I have something similar, using a Samsung Odyssey+ WMR headset, and it makes LFS unplayable in VR
If I close my right eye and move my head around, the left view appears to be okay - it moves slightly as I would expect it to.
If I close my left eye, the right view appears distorted, as if by some exagerated perspective. If I look to the right, the left of the screen moves away from me; if I look to the left, the right of the screen starts to move away.
Up/down movement is fine through both eyes.
The image in the right eye may be slight stretched side-to-side, too.
This is a new issue as I tried LFS when I first got my Odyssey+ (about a year ago) and was blown away by the quality of the image. Now, trying to play just makes me feel sick. Some bit of software has changed between now and then
Yeah, that's it - you stamp as much fun out of this game as you can. LFS is full on non-realistic extras which I'm sure you use to improve your lap times - I don't hear you complaining about those.
I haven't played LFS for about 4 months. I use a gamepad, and just before the last patch was released I was really getting the hang of LFS. Admitedly that was with me flatshifting, but I was used to a semi-auto box on 1nsane (offroad game).
Then patch Y was released and it screwed up the way I was driving, I had a bit hissy fit and stopped playing.
In a moment of boredom I downloaded and tried patch Z - what a difference! The car is so much more drivable now. I just back-off the throttle a little for each gearchange and it works great. Something must have been changed in the programming, because there's no way I would have stopped playing at patch Y if it drove like this.
Anyone else who uses a gamepad notice any difference? Or is it just me taking a break and re-discovering great physics?
Great work devs, and thanks for still making it possible for 'part time' players with gamepads to participate.
There's no way I'd be interested in spending several weeks designing and building a track, only to have it removed after 4 weeks? Remember, you're not just talking about a racing track, but all the surrounding area, with buildings, vegetation, terrain, skyboxes....
To remove it after 4 weeks would be a complete waste of time, and I think it would stop most builders from contributing.
I'm sure it will, until you are an island of a handfull of blinkered individuals pretending you are driving a real car instead of sitting in front of a computer screen. Everyone else will have walked away, to games where they can have fun, and not be ridiculed for it.
IT IS NOT REAL. IT IS A GAME. IT IS FOR FUN.
It makes me smile, to read these posts from people who are obsessed with so-called realism, how they pick and choose which parts of reality they want included. Wouldn't it be realistic if, once you crashed into the barrier, you were out of racing for the next 4 hours while your car was fixed? How is that different from damaging your engine through over-revving, or clutch wear? Surely there should be a consequence to ANY aspect of racing, if you want realism.
And before anyone spouts any crap about 'it's a work-in-progress', those aspects, the 'inconvenient' aspect will NEVER be included in this game. So who decides what's real and what's not?
You are making fools of yourselves, you really are...
I'm a 35 year-old occasional player. I use a gamepad for convenience, and I don't want to spend that much money on a wheel. This new patch has made it almost impossible for me to play; it's not practical to reduce the revs for each and every gear change using a joypad, and all the fun has gone for me.
Before patch y I was able to finish a job (I'm a graphic designer who works from home), start up LFS and enjoy a 10-lap race against AIs just to rest my brain from working. This was the reason I bought S2. I can no longer do this. If it's suposed to be a pure simulator why have AI drivers? They are artificial. Surely this game should be a balance of reality and accessibility. Not everyone uses a wheel and I strongly feel that provisions should be made for non-wheel users.
Lastly, is it possible for me to revert back to the previous patch?
We used to play with 256 x 256 skins on 1nsane When you're racing offroad through canyons and forests, the last thing you're worried about is the sharpness of your opponents' logos
Hi, I just bought my S2 licence having played the demo for a couple of weeks. LFS is just the best racing sim I've ever tried for the PC, with stunning feel (even with a gamepad), great visuals even from a modest GX card, and a superb website / forum too. I doubt I'll ever be a great racer (stuck at 1:46 on Aston 3) but it's certainly fun trying to get better.
