This thread with the tutorial by Spikee over at the Redline forums helped me out a lot:

Wow, this thread is still going! Cool. Im sure it will be helpful for many people apart from me. Ive had about a month off from LFS so excuse the late reply.

5000 miles later im down into the 1:01s for AS2 pretty consistently and the 1:09s on BL1 (when i tear myself away from Redline or SR Aston).

Quote from venus :
Your rubber issues are due to one thing... stop sliding into corners under braking... ...hopefully you've fixed that issue, but i think I remmeber you still slide. lol

Oh yes, little issue that is developing as i push harder. Im just trying to find the limit of how much speed i can bleed off turning in towards the apex, but you are right it is hurting me. Not as much as that last feckin turn though, its great fun working through this process though and its nice to see the occasional good/amazing first split messages emerging too.

Right, time to go and see if i can survive the post GP mad over-enthusiasm! Thanks all and ill probably be sliding around in your rear view mirrors soon enough Venus.

Think this is the listing for max numbers of players per track.

It seems a bit of an over-reaction to me. You have the right to ask anyone you want to join your team. I can understand how overt recruitment could get someones heckles up but this doesnt seem to be the case here. After all, you aren't going to load the drivers into the back of a wagon and drive them over a cliff. If they enjoyed racing on a server before they joined im sure they still will after. Yes, they may not be so regular but communities like this live in flux, new drivers will come through to fill the void.

For the sake of harmony though, maybe cool your boots for a while and let the dust settle. Although you shouldnt have to, perhaps try asking the other operator or reaching some kind of entente. A major disagreement is going to be bad for you both i would think so maybe its just one of those times when you have to sigh, grab your ankles and take one for the team.

I like this idea a lot. How about making the league quite short. You could use the 4 or 5 most popular track/car combos that new players will probably come across. After all, if it is for beginners you will not have complaints about being unoriginal. For example i would replace AS cadet with AS club. Looking at LFS desktop, club has way higher track usage and as such would seem the better choice (although i am biased on that one). For cars i would suggest the XFG for blackwood as an introduction that everyone is familiar with, then one SS, one GTR and one other popular class/model.

This should make it immediately accessible (as new players are bound to have experience with at least 1 of the cars or tracks). Even if they arent by playing through and practicing for the league they will gain a good grounding in all the most widely played areas of the game on which they can build. It should also make a great tool for learning and discussing racecraft. For example the penalty for crashing someone out may be starting a discussion thread on what went wrong, why and how to correct the problem rather than penalising points etc.

The benefit of keeping it to just a handful of races means there can be good accessibility as new players join the community, racers can move on and up without a long term commitment if they enjoy it and do well and it is not intimidating.

How will you define beginner though? Join date, laps, mileage, previous competitions?

Quote :Is track change random? I mean totally random or are the tracks randomly chosen from a select pool of tracks?

Quote :It is a pool, as you say. We selected the tracks to suit the cars and the style of competition we want to achieve across each of the servers.

So am i right in assuming there is no way of knowing when a certain track will appear or is there a schedule or rotation order? I cant find any info on that in my searches.
Being new i dont know many tracks and tend to concentrate on 1 or 2 at a time until i get competitive at them. I dont want to race on tracks i am unfamiliar with as this will cause problems for other drivers, it would be nice to race on those where i have a certain level of competence though.

Do i basically have to learn all the tracks or hope i get lucky in finding a track i know is active?
Is there a list of what tracks may be in the, say, SS1 server pool so i can at least concentrate on those if it is random?

Of course this may be a deliberate feature of the system.

Certainly, there is no hurry, that should allow me to join. It was more just to check if it was a known issue. Is it the setup you need or replay?

EDIT: Uploaded set as per Shiny red cobra's instructions.

It keeps telling me i cant join the race in "CTRA race 1" because "passengers are not allowed on this server". My garage settings show i have no passengers onboard though.

Id agree with that wholeheartedly. You know the SR servers are great if youve been racing there, drop by the forums and youll see how helpful they are.

That last turn is a real devil. I still havent got it figured out yet. My pb isnt much better than yours i see. I generally brake earlier for T1. About a car length before the rumble strip. Its the only way i can get the power on early enough to get a good run out. When i braked at the 50 board i was a good 1/2 second slower, but then i dont trail brake. I also found using the left hand curb of the fast chicane as well as the right lets you carry an extra 1-2mph through there. However i am by no means an expert so go with whatever the guide says!

Check out the redline forum. There is a guide by Spikee made for the FOX at AS club which has 30+pics and an explanation for each. Helped me loads.

EDIT: Here you go... http://www.team-redline.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=4.0 Look at "Fast lap at Aston Club with fox".

Yep, you just need the wingman drivers for the force feedback to work properly on the PC. I got the DFP myself when my joystick was also unable to stand up to LFS. Very impressed so far. Got mine for £65 from the internet.

EDIT: Hows about that for a quick response! 4 in 2 minutes.

Quote from JasonMatthews : There already is one. If you look at the track there is a darker line, I think that is the racing line, or am I wrong?

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=27490
This thread clears up the darker track line debate quite well i think. I was considering deleting my "line" and starting fresh. I would hypothesise that if you deleted the line for the track, set update path to all cars, and then ran a few WR replays or hopped on a server with 1 or 2 top racers it would give you a nice close to perfect line on the track. You can then turn update path off and it will stay as it is for reference. Of course some may consider this an impure method of learning... and its only an idea, i havent tested to see if it works or not.

Quote :Yaay, I've found the files. I've done a fresh LFS install, and then I saw how it looked without the black lines again. Hehe, what a difference. So I had to copy my old files. They're in:

LFS folder /data/knw/[track+number].trs

For example "BL1.trs"

Great stuff mate. Thanks for the info!

It would still be nice to have the blanks filled if anyone knows. If not, its no big thing.

Well thats really helped out. Braking earlier and watching the corner more have really upped my consistency, my driving seems smoother and more controlled. As an added bonus its knocking time off too.

Quote :Hi, I found that as I started to learn a track I got faster and then actually started to get slower again (by about 1-1.5 sec). Seemed like as I got faster I started to brake later until this was actually slowing me down (braking too late) and reducing consistency. So easing off the pace a bit and deliberately braking earlier seemed to improve my times and made driving more relaxed. So perhaps try easing off abit rather than worrying about / going for the best possible laps times.

I was wondering what kind of psychic you were until i saw the username. Thanks for following me round yesterday. I think you may have hit the nail right on the head there. Cutting braking distance seemed to edge my times down slowly but as you said doing everything in such a short space of time before the corner is stopping me concentrating on the corner itself.

Braking earlier should allow me to concentrate on the more important aspects of the corners which will give the long term benefits of better times and a smoother more consistent style. Id read about this but didnt realise this was what i was doing until you pointed it out.
Quote :I solved my consistancy problems very simply. I just set out on two 60 lap races back to back, and focused not on getting fast times, but getting close to my fast averages, rather than close to my pb.

Well previously i was doing well if my rubber lasted 12 laps but i think most of the wear is coming from the above braking zone problem. Ill give it a try in conjunction with braking practice and try to kill two birds with one fox.

Thanks all, im going to try as many of these as i can and see where it gets me.

Deal! Ill give it a try. Thanks again.

Quote :1) look the same place each time round, eg, look at the same place on the apex, brake at or near the same point each lap. i use 'i think i should be braking around now' instead of any fixed reference points.

Good point, maybe im concentrating too much on looking for the references on the track and then watching my speedo for braking and turn in speed which is probably taking away from my ability to follow a consistently good line.
Quote :5. go on loads of different tracks so u get used to adjusting your style or using different lines and dont get too comfortable with the 1 track!

Interesting, id assumed it would be better to pound one track to death and then move on. Might be worth a try as i havent even touched most of the tracks yet.
