Quote from Dajmin :The best way to describe bloom is to half close your eyes and then shine a bright light into them. The way everything spreads out at the edges is bloom.

Or you could just rub vaseline on your eyeballs. Plenty of options.

No

The 'glow' isn't spreading out from the barrier is it? It's just a barrier lit from one end.

Would it be possible for you to post the layout Victor (or anybody) each week? I'm offline at home for now and the past month and I'd like to join in the fun.

(Using a Mac at work so can't join on the sly...)

Cheers.

Quote from PLAYLIFE :can anyone summarize in 1 or 2 sentences what clipping means?

When a sound tries goes over the limit for your software/hardware/ears it can't get any louder so effectly stays the same max volume. If you picture a soundwave that is 100% clipping, the top and bottom [peaks and troughs] are just max volume, permanently, so no sound detail.

As SamH says, it can be good in moderation as it implies a loud sound. But once it goes too far you're losing too much detail to still be listening to anything resembling the original sound.

Quote from DragonCommando :"Before HDRR was fully developed and implemented, games would create an illusion of HDR by using light blooming and sometimes using an option called "Enhanced Contrast Settings"." - also wikipedia

But that's exactly it, that last paragraph should be "games would mislead consumers by implying the use of HDR techniques whilst only using light blooming and sometimes using an option called 'Enhanced Contrast Settings'. Although some games do this well.

I'm using high-res skies and reflections too, no difference.

More stuff.. HDR photos are composites of different exposures of the same scene. To retain the details of say, bright skies and dark shadows; not to blow out the top and bottom end of the scale with enhanced contrast.

The point of HDR in games is that it changes to imitate the camera lense exposure. You do seem to understand some technical stuff about HDR, but what you've done is simply fixed post-processing.

I'm trying to think of a good analagy to what you're doing but I can't. But it's like you're saying "look at this way of making LFS look vintage!" if you were to simply apply a tinted filter. In fact there would be lots of processes and variable stuff that you would need to do to make a modern video look vintage. If you've just done one of them, then that's all you've done.

I know you keep saying "like HDR" and now "fake HDR", but it's not even that. You have just changed the contrast. You should know how different this is to true HDR. Hope this helps to understand this. Correct me if I'm wrong. ( I haven't looked to see if wiki agrees.)

Exactly. This has nothing to do with HDR. Or at least there's no point likening it to HDR rendering of any kind. The look may seem more exciting to some people, but essentially you've said "hey, look, turn up your contrast and it looks cool."

I tried your ATI setting and even after toning it down a bit all the nice detail in the clouds had gone to white. That's low dynamic range, all the top end colour being forced so high into one colour. That would be fine if the during the game it was dynamic, but it's not.

Obviously, feel free to view LFS how you want

I thought they forgot everything when you gave them a different setup?

Must have been pretty early on. I had been tooling around with Racer (www.racer.nl) in 2002 and had loved this first encounter with proper analogue controls in a driving game. Although still using a mouse. I eventually got annoyed with the flakeyness and quirky handling and hoped that maybe out there somewhere on internetz that there was a similar project.

Found an early demo towards the end of 2002 for LFS and despite its early stage in development preferred it over any other "sim" at the time. Was still playing CMRally 2.

Was on dial-up and didn't venture online for a year or so. I think I remember one of my first completed races online. On a hot day I was at a friends house and dled the game for him and I had a quick race on BLGP/XFG on his MS FF. Dripping with sweat by the end of the race Fantastic.

Quote from three_jump :serveral team with 2 drivers

That's not tag, that's a relay race. There was/is a tag/chase game set up and there's a video of it somewhere. One white car with the rest red, the white car has to touch a red car which then goes to pits and changes colur to white. This continues til all cars but one is white. The last red car wins.

The name of the track is Kyoto Oval or KY1
I've never seen anyone call it o ring

reverse WR is 31.44 in BF1 (that's what his server is set to)
And it appears protector can match this. Woohoo.

Make sure the file is in the form "FXO TURBO_RACE_S.set" (car name / set name / .set extension) and that you're using the appropriate car?

You don't have more than one LFS install folder do you?

Shame. All you can do is ask them to credit you or get your name on the skin that they work from. If they show no respect then they are pure evil. If they are respectful of your work when confronted, then maybe they'll carry out your list of demands.

Problem is, if it didn't cross their minds to ask in the first place they might just ignore you now.

Have you tried the non-voice ones? I use a pack that blips/beeps in the relevant stereo channel when you have car overlap, but the voice remains for "clear" "still there" etc. Much less potential for tone of voice to put you off!

Don't have it at work and someone gave it to me, but I can retrieve it tonight if anyone's interested.

When you pres SHIFT+F8 for network debug mode, that will show a number next to drivers' names above the car.

I think that's their ping to the server?
