That should help you get started with Blender in general. You might also don't have to use such a confusing camera navigation as John uses in his tut video :P
I usually get paid to do stuff like this - so this is not the first time in a NLE/compositing app for me. But the first serious attempt with the awesome LFS free camera.
I frapsed out some replays for demos n friends from time to time.
@BAMBO: I really would like to but I don't think there will be time for another 10-15 :/
EDIT: Vimeo's flash player is still playing my first version/upload(1:35 lenght). I've updated to a longer(2:17) version yesterday. So if u want to see everything: login and download!
Chrome is easy. It has no color and just reflects it's enviroment. Just set the color to black, reflection to almost 100% and give it a hard specular - everything else is the enviroment - so make sure there is something to reflect. In case of emergency use a HDRI as EnvMap.
^^Btw, in that case its brushed alu. Just a grey texture with 'scratches" along x and anisotropic(stretched), glossy reflections.
Updates 25.02.2009
-switched light type to spot for faster shadow rendering
-increased transperency of glass
-added edge split modifier to FZR mesh to fix some shading problems
-adjusted the levels to light the scene a bit up
-removed the odd looking LFS S2 window plate
I don't know if these work with 8k cards but I always work with the recomended Nvidia Gelato drivers 91.36 found here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.36
(It says Quadro drivers but will work with any GeForce)
I work a lot with 3d apps were these drivers seem to be at least more stable/compatible than these i-wannabe-the-3dmark-king- over-optimized gaming crap drivers they release every few months. LFS runs super smooth even with 4xAA and 16xAF on my 7800gtx.
Make sure you're using the neweset version of Fraps. They fixed such an issue some versions ago.(at least they mentoined such a bug in premiere pro, cant clearly remember...)
Btw, this has nothing to do with your harddisk-space. The codecs runs out of RAM in this case. One thing you could try is increasing the virtual memory/page file. On default setting windows should do this automatically...
The freeware/shareware converters on these software sites are hard to use and very limited in their functions
in my opinion.
If you're looking for a free encoder tool I would give
MPEG Streamclip
-requires Quick Time
-has very powerful batch processing
Virtual Dub
-works with images sequences
-especialy powerful when combining video and audio streams
-a shame it only works with avi
a try.
If you can effort it go for Sorenson Squezze or Canopus Pro Coder. Both have very useful watch folder and batch processing functions where you can even encode in several formats at once but are very expensive.
Wow, a lot of rotoscoping and motion tracking in there! You put it together very nice. Of course 50% of the credits belong to trentemoller :P
One thing to admit: as stated before it would be a nicer viewing experience if you go with 720p which is 1280px by 720px or at least a 16:9 ratio in smaller res.
I had no trouble with 60fps playback here. But for a wider audience i'd lower the bitrate a bit and/or try WindowsMedia VC-1(also called Professional) or WMV9 which handle 60fps very smooth in my experience.
