It is somewhat hard to compare a completely new technology to the evolutionary top of what screens have become. The Vive's resolution is 1080x1200 per display/eye, but in my opinion you cannot add those and say, the visuals are similar to FullHD, because they are not. It pretty much looks like 1080x1200 and given the bigger viewing angle, you lose some more details. Then again, do you really have to see everything crystal sharp from half a mile away?
Yes, I am one of the lucky few with early access to a htc Vive Pre. To be honest, I didn't touch LFS for quite some time, other than watching old S1 replays. Took me literally 5 minutes, to download LFS, install it, disable the menu music, set visuals to the max, unlock the game and sit in a FZR on Westhill (including the 2 minutes looking for the 3D button).
The Rift and Vive experience for LFS must be extremely similar, since it doesnt make use of the motion controllers, so for anyone with seconds thoughts, try either of these systems with LFS. I started gaming on a Commodore C64 in the 80's and jumped on every technical invention there was (yes, also HD-DVD and almost LaserDisc as well), but I can guarantee you, you cannot imagine what LFS on VR is like. First impression is just wow. Triple screens + Track-IR doesn't even come close.
The resolution somewhat sucks, so hard to make out signs for breaking points, which is something you might get used to I suppose. It's first gen, so give it some time. By the time S3 is done, we all have VR brain implants
Scawen, if there is anything in particular you want me to test, just let me know. I certainly need more time with the game, so this might be nothing: On Westhill FPS drop to 45fps always at the same spot, but the SteamVR UI is not complaining about missing frames. Other than from the fps counter, I couldn't tell either.
Edit: Never mind, seems like you have a Vive yourself. No wonder, it just simply works.
I wouldn't have thought, that from all the VR demos/games it would be the oldest piece of software that puts the biggest grin on my face. Thumbs up, works like a charm with the Vive!
Thanks a lot you two! I have to admit to have been away from LFS for quite some time. I read something about this version, but somehow I didnt think S1E replays would work with it. New version => byebye old replays is still in my mind, but now I am not even sure if that was with S2 or S1 patches - I am getting old
Now the nostalgic LFS S1 replay night can begin. Seeing my old avatar and sig in this forum already resulted in having a huge smile in my face.
Scarven, Eric and Victor: thank you for this magnificent piece of software. When you said that there will only be 3 stages of LFS, I was very, very sad, but you already made it last for almost a decade and I suppose S3 is not even anywhere near the horizon
Too bad, I have 2 independant set of pedals while I can't find the PSU for my wheel. Otherwise I would have gone for FXO on SO1, where I spent like 3 years of my free time Hotlapping for the Top10 and finally getting there was one of the most determined things I did so far, haha
I am sorry to dig this thread up from veeery deep down, but I have exactly the same question if it is in any legal way possible to unlock old versions or alternatively to watch the MP replays of old S1 versions. I started playing LFS even before S1 was out (different account back then), so I have great replays of about every S1 version and I would love to watch them after this many years.
Sorry for posting in case that question has already been answered in a different thread. Any hint in the right direction is very appreciated - thanks!
There must be something wrong indeed. I have 50+fps with my old 2600+ and a 9500 with AA and AF enabled. Have you upgraded from a Ati card to the 6600gt and didnt remove all of the old drivers properly?
Also make yure that the power cord to the 6600gt comes directly from the psu with no other devices connected to it.
I guess your FPS should be about 30 at start and 80-100 with no other visible cars...
I only had a 6600Gt for 2 weeks, but the LFS performance was worse than with my 9500... Maybe its fgx driver related too.
There are already blinkers switches (7,8,9), a headlight switch and a ignition switch (i). But there is no key to switch the headlight permanently on as far as I know.
The engine stuff would be nice, but you would have to use a clutch pedal with some kind of Force Feedback effect, so you can feel where the "drag point" is. I have no idea how to translate that correctly, but I hope you get the point.
I forgot to mention the most interesting part
I have a Momo Racing with Act-Labs performance pedals and build myself a cockpit and a diy-projector. Screen size is about 100". It's quite funny to play LFS with all that stuff, but the bad thing is everybody thinks I am crazy
My LFS rig consists of a Athlon XP-M2600+ running at 240x10.5=2525Mhz with 2x512MB Twinmos Speed Premium Winbond UTT at 2 2 2 11 3.2V and a Radeon 9500@9700 365/297Mhz. Everything is in a handy Shuttle SN45G Barebone, so its perfect to go to LANs with it. Ilapped the NB, modded the case and added a lot of fans to it, to keep it cool I also added some lights while I was at it. Its already quite old, but I get 120+ FPS in LFS with AA and AF, so I guess its still fast enough for LFS
