I notice S1 licensed on your tag, are you trying to connect to a S2 server?
If so you will not get connected.
Many servers are also now running very new patches and you need to patch your game to the same level or no connection.
Yep, somebody has made a mod to give between 1000 HP and 1500 HP in 100 HP steps, mind you, that mod makes the trucks just so overpowered it's ridiculous.
You could try one of the many truck simulators around, I have been using the new Euro Truck simulator 2 lately, that's pretty good with thousands of miles of roads through Europe and the UK to travel. And you earn truckloads of money at the same time. Only game money but still fun.
errr, yep, you got to learn to recognise the radar sites fast, sorry. I also learned to brake slightly before the corners, keeping throttle on for decent engine response at the same time. Even then, I still have the occasional "offroad excursion".
This site has all the mods I use in game, http://trucksmods.boards.net/index.cgi
you do have to make an account there, but the best of the mods are on that site. It is run by a beta tester for SCS the makers of the game, and a real life truck driver.
The post for the powerful engines is there, 1000HP and 1500HP for all trucks.
oops, yep sorry about the lack of install info there.
That was just a quick edit of my Mercedes gearbox file for a Volvo, I've not finished fiddling with final drive ratio's yet, so the full mod won't be on the truck sim site until next week at the earliest.
Right now I'm still only getting a top speed of about 140KPH, even then you have to really watch some of the corners or head over heals she goes.
On a side note, there is a mod out for some very powerful engines for all trucks, use with caution, I tested that last night, my truck got horny and mounted the poor little car in front of me at traffic lights takeoff 1500HP and high torque makes for interesting game play for sure.
DieKolkrabe, use this gearbox mod, drop it into your volvo transmission def.
Change the file extension to .sii, it will work no worries.
That gearbox has an ultra low ratio first gear, second gear is about the same as the default first gear, eleventh gear is direct 1:1 ratio, twelveth gear is an over drive. Very similar to the Eaton Roadranger specs for their 13 speed gearbox.
Careful with throttle control in the lower gears, and it's very easy to overspeed and overturn in the top gears.
That is the gearbox setup I use on my Mercedes with 735HP engine. Yeah, I hotrodded that too, lol.
Volvo prides itself on being the most powerful truck on the market, but, there is a 1010HP mod for the big scania.
All trucks have a top speed of 180KPH, IF, you have a long enough straight to get them there, with that in mind, anything over about 130 with a load will have you in big trouble on the corners as the load takes charge. I have been pushed across 3 lanes of an autobahn at about 140KPH by the weight of a load, it's not easy to catch and correct. And, I have owned and driven my own trucks for many years.
And yes, there is a physics mod with no speed limiter for all trucks at http://trucksmods.boards.net/index.cgi
you do have to register at that forum to download though.
Most the mods I use are here, http://trucksmods.boards.net/index.cgi?
the admin of that site is a beta tester for SCS, he's pretty busy, but also very helpful guy.
I also found an 18 speed gearbox mod, so far been unable to get it to work though.
Still not sure why, must be holding my mouth wrong or something.
As for range switching, not sure, I use sequential shifter, my guess is olutheppa is right.
Well back to hacking away at these mods to try and get them to work for me.
Edit:
Found the reason the gearbox mod won't work, there are as yet no accessory slots for extra gearboxes in the code.
I have succeeded in getting a 735HP signature series pseudo Cumins engine to work though, for the Mercedes Actros, will post that to truckmods forum tomorrow.
For interests sake, absolute top speed with speed limiters off is set to 180 KPH.
Which is kind of crazy as the tires would explode in RL scenarios, that is the very reason racing trucks are limited to 160KPH\100MPH. Tire technology can't keep real physics and centrifugal forces from expanding and exploding tires at any greater speeds than that.
There is also a new mod out for the big Mercedes, gives you the chipped "black" engine at 670HP. This engine really sparkles, it has good response from throttle at all settings, revs like a banshee.
And for Cherio, and the rest of us gear jammers, there is a new mod out for the ZF 16 speed transmission, I'm hoping to be able to mod it for all the rest of the trucks soon, currently only for the small 310HP Iveco rig.
As for bonneted models, probably won't see them yet, it seems the people at SCS are still busy with bug hunting etc, pity really because I'd love to run a nice Western Star or similar.
If you get confused about the gears be glad this sim doesn't have the full Roadranger box with 18 forward and 6 reverse speeds. That is the gearbox our truckers here in Australia prefere to have behind the big Cummins engines they use.
It could also do with diff locks for muddy and slippery conditions.
All in all though, I think it's a pretty good sim.
Downloaded and tried this for a while last night, pretty good sim actually.
Dusseldorf to Kassel with a load of car parts, dark and stormy night, where the hell are the lights and wipers, too late, guard rail, bang shudder.
"And it's over the edge and down the mountain side, and I know they'll tell about the way I died, in the rain when the lights on the hill were blinding me" lol.
With apologies the the late great Slim Dusty for ripping the lines of his song.
I use an AMD quad core Phenom 2 with the very same graphics card you have,
latest NV genuine drivers and maxed graphics settings in LFS, and have absolutely no problems at all under Win 7 32 bit operating system.
Previously I ran Win XP Pro at service pack 3 with no problems either.
Does the machine itself go into a shutdown? or just LFS?
If it is the machine it may actually be the operating system that is the trouble, not the graphics card. It may also be your PSU is not powerful enough to drive the card properly. Check the specs needed to drive the card, ( PSU wattage) then add 30% for safety.
ie, if the specs say 400W PSU needed, fit a 550W PSU.
