hahah don't worry.. I usually don't show my stuff online till it's pretty much done though
It will be worth the wait though.. trust me when I say this build is over the top and I don't think anyone's ever seen anything like this in someones house before.
I run iRacing at 5040x1050 with EVERYTHING max'd except shadows.. I get 60-75FPS non stop. I havent raced a grid with over 12 people, but even at 12 it doesnt drop down at all.
GTX280 with SoftTH... This card is fast as hell...
I heard some rumors people have been able to get SoftTH working with a triple SLI mother board, using 2x cards in SLI and a third as the slave... I may look into this soon..
The G25 shifter uses two potentiometers for the gears and a button directly under the shift knob. The only difference between sixth gear and reverse is when you press down on the shifter you're pushing a button in. If you're putting it in reverse and it's showing as sixth that means that button is not working.
Either the button it self failed, then you have to change the button. or.. one of the wires connected to the button came loose... then you just re-solder them.
When you take it all apart just be careful with the spring that pushes the ball that gives you the clicking of the gears forward (1/3/5) and back (2/4/6/R).. Sometimes it can pop out and jump across the room.
Also make a note of how the mechanism that switches it from six speed to up/down works...
edit: lol... I need to stop posting before I drink my morning coffee... I didnt even see the post right above mine.
Finally, if it's still under warranty skip all the above and send it to logitech.
I have seen that same problem on a Samsung TV only once before... Try unplugging it for about 30 minutes.. I don't know if it will work for you but it worked on the other TV... something reset after all of the power was completely drained and it fixed the problem.
See, I actually can't wait to move, because right my gaming gear is stuck in the corner of the room.. the next house i'm going to make sure i have enough room for a full gaming room 500 square feet of gaming madness..
A lot more than that. 4 x xbox 360's for quad screen Forza 2... 2 x 150GB WD Raptors in Raid 0... GTX280.. the paint alone has cost over $100.. interior carpet, buttons, cables.. the list goes on and on... So much time has gone into it that the time is a lot more valuable than the money spent...
I tore down the first two, this is my third cockpit and i'm about to move onto the fourth.. i'm just debating if I'll tear this one apart and re-use stuff like the G25 and the Dash, or if i'll keep this one so friends can use it when they come over, the next one will be the bad ass one... but that will be another thread all together The garage is almost clean and the welding gear will be ready soon then it's time to get serious
I own a 2001 Volkswagen GTI, I took all measurements like pedal placement, height and location compared to the seat, wheel and shifter all from my car... it's the actual dash from my car too it's exactly like my real car.
As for the monitors, games like LFS allow you to move the camera angle to compensate for it.. its the exact same as my real car.. the line of vision starts at the end of the dash When I adjust my camera angle in LFS I adjust it in a way that the camera angle is perfect.. Once I get my new bigger monitors, they will be a little further away and a little lower.
edit: now I see what you mean about the pedals in the picture.. it's the angle of the camera, it's a little off center, they're not quite that far off.
The whole thing is still a work in progress, but I will be modifying the whole monitor wall mount assembly and painting it black to match.. that will probably be next week's project... in a few months if all things go well I will be upgrading all 3 monitors to somewhere between 32 and 42 inchs 1080p.. just debating about which tvs to get.
Regarding the mirrors.. the only way i'd put mirrors on the sim is if I had quad projectors running on 4 screens in a perfect square around me... then I could actually use the rear views in game
Until a game other than Forza 2 supports it properly, I won't be wasting my time with that idea.
well, you can open it up and check. There are two motors pretty much right behind the paddle shifters.. one on each side... When your racing they will get warm over time... if one gets warm and the other doesnt you'll then you know. Check connections too. I'll see if I can post some pics of the inside of the wheel later, i'm working right now.
I have never had this problem myself.. but I know that the G25 has two motors in it to give you strong force feedback. If you're saying it has lost 50% of its power I would check to see if one of the two moters has died on you or has come unplugged.
You can use a GX2 with a cheap second card.. I think that's what he's getting at.. but between the GX2 and the GTX280 they're both really good, one performs better on some games while the other performs better on the rest of the games...
I have never ordered from him, and am no way affiliated with him but i have read many good things about him and he seems to know his stuff fairly well.
Just wanted to say, very nice setup Demon... I like it.
That wheel in the above link is nice as well, i've been keeping up with that project on betainnovations site for a while now and the guy that did it did a great job.
I cannot wait till I start my wheel project.. mmmm i'm just cleaning out my garage so I can make room for the full shop i'm going to need to make this stuff :P but I think it's time to start getting crazy
If you took it apart you should find something broken.
If you can't find the broken part it's because you havent take enough shit apart.
Keep taking it apart until you find the problem, once you find the broken or loose part, fix it.. then put it back together.. it can easily be done in an evening.
If you still can't figure it out.. take pictures as you're taking it apart and post them.. i'll help you figure it out if I can.
Almost any car know will fit, once you take the G25 knob off you can put whatever shift knob you want onto the shaft...
FYI.. Unless you want to modify the internals of the shifter I seriously recommend you get the lightest shifter possible. Anything with even the smallest amount of weight makes the G25 feel even more "arcade-ish" because it becomes too easy to put the car into gear.
Any shifter I have ever seen myself has 3 screws that just tighten to fit whatever size shaft is on your shifter... so most should work fine. I don't have any better pics now, but you can see my shifter on the bottom right corner of the pic. It is from a MKIV Jetta
