i had once a simliar problem with my driving force pro

it worked fine with on my HP laptop
but my main machine would calibrate the wheel as you describe.
after i reinstalled my XP SP3 with lastet driver my overall systemperformance accerlated and the wheel worked fine.
maybe its a problem with your wheel > try to contact your reseller or directly logitech > they have a very good Return Policy

i had the same problem with my DD-WRT WRT54GL going on, so i did a little research and come up with a nice solutin: ipcop > a dedicated old pc machine that i had in spare (Pentium III 733MHZ, 2x256SD-RAM, 6GB 2.5" Notebookhard disk ide with adaptor, 125Watts Psu, 2x intel ethernet card and a matrox graphical adatper pci)
my ipcop is a router and proxy at the same time, it filters..
easy to use via web interface and good hardware support

i build in total 10 of them for local "Youth clubs" and friends of mines to stay 24/7 connected within more than 10 clients behind the router

i started with a cheap 40 DeutschMark no ffb wheel with gameport conection, crappy pedals more like suited for a sewing machine..
changed to dfp
now happy with g25

and construting a new interface..

most of the common steering wheels are based on poti wheel axes (x) they arn't really precise and poti die to fast on ~2hrs a day use..
the dfp and G25 are the only wheels that i know working with opitcal axes for the steering control. of curse there are other brands that produces optical axis controlls aswell but they are scaled at a much higher prize. (frex, vpp etc)

cons
dfp and g25 WONT work on Microsoft system due differnt incompatibilities..

if you have warranty left try to contact logitech and request for a replacement, maybe you have to send the pedals in..

i think the desgin is preaty neat & slick.. i'm a GT4 player and own psone and pstwo have over 25 racing game on ps2 and ps1.. gt4 is best played with the dfp.. sure the g25 works too but doesnt support h shift and clutch...
so the dfp original design is for Console players.. the support for pc is a welcome option i guess..
i had a dfp bought it of eBay used it for about 1,5 years, then the pedal bug occured send it in and got a new boxed unit.. > i sold it on ebay AS NEW.. and bought me with some extra money a g25...

the prize of the dfp (gt5 edt) is fairly to high, but it the competition will bring down the price until the old dfp is completely out of stock
