What's worst than being a LFS fan during 2009 and 2010???

Of course being also a fan of Gran Turismo 5!!!!!

Still loving it, though, although I've been in a break mode during most of 2009....

Peace and love...

Quote from 5haz :Just because Scawen says there will be no extra suprises, doesn't mean there wont be any.

All good things come to he who has the patience of a saint.

That would make sense, but then we wouldn't have to wait much more for the patch. I mean, the devs would have to be thinking something like "Ok, we have to make people wait, so let's make them wait a little more and give them something more"...

But I am not complaining... I bought S2 last summer and I can't say that I have "finished" nothing yet, perhaps BL1 + XFG (my best time so far, 1.120 from WR).

This modern culture of ours is addicted to novelty...

There is something I really don't understand about the Scirocco delay... I can't understand how we went from an announcement for the availability of the Scirocco in less than two weeks to a delay that now amounts to a month...

Something had to go horribly wrong...

Quote from sinbad :You want it to feel/look like this (most impressive force dynamics video), especially if you're spending big money, and unless you have acute tunnel vision it just won't.

When I saw this video my interest in LFS grew up quite a lot... even knowing that having such a rig was out of the question for me...

As the UFR Baby uses a 45% restriction in intake, does that means that gears should be shortened? I normaly use normal UFR setups, but I always have the feeling that the loss of power makes the gears too long...

Do snakes pay bills to heat up their body under the sun and store some energy to go for a hunt????
THERE IS FREE ENERGY !!! But you must be clever to see it. At least, as clever as a snake...

Very interesting observation! In fact the snakes pays a price... they must move to an area where they can warm up.

The key fact here is that you, the snake and me, all living beings, should get more than they invest when it comes about energy. In my opinion, this is a very important thing to consider when thinking about energy sources. Here is a good website dedicated to study energy return on energy investment.

There are many references for "free energy", but almost all of them are perpeetuum mobiles that don't obbey physic laws (so they are a scam or their builders play tricks on themselves).

Quote from ZORER :By the way, wtf is fusion lottery ??

I mean that you don't know for sure if we are going to solve all of the problems involved in using fusion to produce commercial energy. And acting as we would is, in my oppinion like using lottery tickets to pay your bills.

I suppose I am a bit of a prudent pessimist when it comes about the future!

Quote from ZORER :Producing solar energy from sunlight is NOT HAZARDOUS AND IT IS FREE once we get into the next step of it's technology. And we're not far from it. Doesn't matter how hard you (petrol companies) try to slow down the progress, it'll be useable in the near future.(and it must)

THERE ARE NO FREE ENERGIES, also, there are no energy transformations (as energy can't be created nor destroyed) that are 100% efficient or 100% clean.

Wind, sunlight, are, in human civilization terms, unlimited and renewable, but the processes, machines that we use to harness, transform, transport and store them, aren't.

In fact, I doubt that without all the natural gas, oil and coal that we use, nuclear energy and renewable energy would run itself, with no external subsidy from the fossil fuels (who are, mind you, solar energy stored that we could use as an accumulation and not as flux).

Sure, some energy technologies are better than others under some circumstances, but there are not silver bullets here, unless you buy the fussion lotery ticket and act as if you were to win...

Quote from pacesetter :180mph is a bit unnessescary dont you think?

No, it is necesssary for a lot of people, since cars aren't just a tool for satisfying your mobilty needs, but something else.

Haven't you seen all those car comercials? It is all about style, sensations, affirmation of your personality (coincidentally, all of this leads you to desire what they are pushing to you).

We need 180 mph cars to feel ourselves "complete", everything else be damned.

Yeah, Dajmin, you're right, that is what Internet does best, to bring together people with similar interests...

I have been playing videogames for more than 30 years, and racing sim games are the only games I keep playing, but the racing sim community seem pretty scattered and divided among fanboy disputes (at least the ones that care to come to forums to write about it...)

Anyway, from all the sim racing games out there, perhaps LFS is the one that gets less attention, and that should change!

Nice review, there are not many detailed reviews for LFS in the internets, so kudos to you, although there are many things that I would like to find in a LFS review:

- A detailed explanation of the changes in the simulation physics from the first alpha version.
- A comparison between LFS physics and those of iRacing, rFactor and GTR.
- A more in deep explanation of the process of creation of the tracks. Creating non real world tracks is very interesting, you're free of some constraints, but also you have the responsability of creating a "good track". What inspired the designers, were all the tracks multipurpose, there were tracks specially designed for certain cars?
- The same about cars.
- A little background from the developers, why they choosed this way of developing a sim racing game? They are, in fact, "indie developers" that distribute digitally, something quite advanced when the game appeared.
- A detailed background of the spin offs, cruiser and drifters, how and when they appeared? What the developers think about? They take them into account for future developements of the sim?
- A bit of a glimpse about the future evolution of LFS .
- A review of the biggest leagues, how the community functions, the selfpolicing in servers, behaviour you can expect, etc.

WOW!

I suppose all of this information can be found scattered, but it would be nice to have it in one place, and maybe call it "All About Live For Speed", and put a link in the main website...

Quote from tonyonparas :Grandma´s aren´t slow

I just drove a fast lap on the FZR at as5 and I got avg. 4% for 1 lap, so It´s right. I also drove very slowly and tried to save fuel.. got 1.1 per lap.
i´m not worried of the so called "global warming" in real world, so why would I care about it in LFS world

Reassuring!

Quote from Burtnic :Hay all Mac users - if you get hold of an application for OS X called SMC Fan Control you can ramp up the fans and because it directly changes settings via EFI it locks them until you return them to normal.

Perfect for Bootcamp'ing into XP or Vista as no one has made any tools yet that understand EFI based hardware overclocking. Before going into windows, remember to run SMC, create a profile for gaming, ramp fan speeds, save it and reboot to windows.

Once in XP or Vista make sure you avoid Apple's own drivers, they work but compared to the tuned ones from DNA or Omega team there slow. Either that or get Mobility Modder, download ATI Radeon desktop 2600 drivers and then extract them. Stop the install, use the Mobility modder software to change the supported card list, then run the modded installer and rather than kick you out for not having a desktop card it'll install with a warning! Use AMD GPU clock Tool 0.47 to increase clock rates on the card. I can achieve 720/960 default is 500/550 I think so performance really shoots up.

1920-1200
Max details
Max AF

Gains a solid FPS always above 65. Helps to put a cap on the FPS so you get a nice flow rather than if a sudden event occurs to drop the FPS by 20 or so it is noticeable. With a cap it won't happen as the clocks maintain a high enough FPS, crucial in a driving game I feel.

Shame it can run native but as XP and LFS play nice its reliable enough for a bit of fun. Having a nice big screen and a Momo makes this game incredibly realistic

hey, that sounds interesting! I'd definitely try upgrading the graphic drivers ( hit the 'card not supported' wall), but I am not so sure messing with the fans... what does this, it overclocks the CPU?
Something I would buy from the LFS shop

I have the same car (called 323F in Europe), but I couldn't find a proper picture and the car is very dirty right now to use it as a model...

anyway, I never put anything on my car that is not standard, no decals, no vinyls, no nothing... but... but I would put a LFS sticker (a metalic one, for instance, would be nice), even simpler than the one I just photoshoped into the rear of this car's picture I found online...

that also would send a notice for those hot rods... "I won't race you here, meet me in lfsworld!"

I play LFS in my iMac 24", at 1920 x 1280 (native resolution), and I get max fps of 50 fps. Perhaps not the fastest rig for LFS, but enough for me, LFS is a great piece of software for this times of crisis... cheap and runs decently in a cheap hardware.

Awesome! (never thought I would end up playing hardcore simulations on my iMac...).

Regarding hydrogen vs batteries, and, in general, all energy systems, simplicity is key. For each transformation, transmission, storage in the life cycle of an energy vector, you'll get thermodynamic losses. So, in that sense, it seems that hydrogen is not competitive enough with batteries. Let's see the steps from "well to wheel" for each vector:

As you can see, today, the life cycle efficiency of the batteries is better. You can read more about this graphic here.

If you ask me, I'd say that the key is not the technology (although we are close to peak oil and we must go past the internal combustion engine), but the use. The private vehicle must go, except for some uses (farmers, people in remote areas, some professionals), car sharing and good public transport is the answer. And for everything else, LFS!
XFG and Blackwood, a love story?

Hi all!

I have been driving for sometime now in LFS and being a newbie, the car I have put more miles in it is the XFG. I have raced also with XRG, FXO and FZ50, but although I have had much fun with them, I am returning to the XFG, and specially, to the XFG - 5 laps Blackwood combo.

I was wondering why is so popular this particular combination. XFG is not a fast car, and Blackwood, with its long back straight can be a little boring.

Why people set up more servers with the XFG instead of the more powerful XF GTR?

I have my own answers: XFG is not a fast car, is easy to drive, but because of this, driving a XFG to the limit (ie: racing under 1:34 in Blackwood) is very challenging! Specially if you drive in a tight pack (this rarely has happened to me...), you can only race fast if you race clean.

So what do you think?

Why the XF GTR is not being used more in Blackwood?
Why the XFG is so popular?

I run LFS in a iMac 24" (under a Windows bootcamp partition), I tried with the max resolution, 1920x1200, and I get max of 40 fps in crowded situations and 50-60 fps average. Never thought I would use my Mac for playing a sim like this!

Hi all!!!

I am an old time racing sim enthusiast, but in the last five years or so I have been a bit busy, so this is a comeback, but it really feels like I am a newbie! So many things have happened, so many new releases!

So here I am, wanting to make up for the lost time!

My setup is a Driving Force Pro (mounted into a Playseat) and a 2 years old notebook hooked to a 32" widescreen CRT TV. That is one of the things I like the most about LFS: you can start very cheaply (only thing I had to pay for was the S2 license).

Right now I am trying to configure the game properly, graphics (runs quit smooth in my notebook, but the TV has a low resolution so I can't pump up the graphics and the text is hard to read), driving camera (in-car), test some mods, etc.

Yesterday I ran my first race (it was a British server, don't remember what), and I finished 4º!!! (but my best lap was 5 seconds slower than the winner). Also, I am having a hard time with the clutch... if the race is too long, I have a tendency of breaking it...

Anyway, I am very happy to be a LFS user!
