I've read two (very old) posts about LFS Remote which I didn't want to reopen so I'll post my question in a new post, since the older post didn't get into Proxy problems.
I'm currently spending a lot of time at work where a Proxy server is used that basicly blocks any trafic that is not going through the port number 80. If I try to connect to LFS Remote (By lfsworld or dedicated windows .exe) I get the following message:
How stupid of me for not thinking of that. I just did the test with the FXR (the car that gave me problems) on Kyoto Ring Oval (easy for testing).
I did one fast lap, then 5 laps in 3ed gear continuosly in the rev limiter, followed by another fast lap. The top spead was exactly the same. No engine damage what so ever.
When you do the test you clearly see the rev limiter stops de needle exactly at the redline. You just know the car isn't suffering.
Just for fun I did one extreme downshift...mmm...I lost about 20km/h max speed
This post might sound a little repetitive but I still would like to read your thoughts about this because I've had contradicting answers about this from people with a lot of LFS experience.
It's perfectly clear to me that over-reving the enging while downshifting causes engine damage. No problem here.
But there are people who say that hitting the rev limiter while accelerating also causes engine damage while others say that if you hit the rev limiter simply by accelerating you could drive around all day with no problem.
I'm currently sticking to the XFR on whichever server they let me use it It's not a car that's used a lot. Most stick to FXR, XRR or FZR. That will be my next step.
Still, most public servers are to high level for me. For example I don't want to enter in cualifying sessions. I could seriously mess up someone's time.
But I found some nice servers though. Doing a lot of Kyoto National.
These 4 things are done already. Did those while still in Demo
CTRA servers still scare me a bit But i've done some driving on Absolute Beginners and I din't make a fool out of myself. I gues I'll stick to them and I will try to just have fun with the track and car I feel like using.
I just bought myself a S2 License the other day. I decided I'll probably stick to this game for much longer. Very excited!
Now I'm just a little overwelmed with the new posibilities. A lot of new cars and a lot of new tracks. I don't know if I should stick to the two cars I know (XFG and FBM) and try new track, stick with Blackwood and change cars, or mix it all up
What do you recomend is best to make good progress and what's the most usefull for online racing??
My question is: Is it possible that servers can disable specific driver aids, like Brake Help? And if so, is there a way for me to see what is allowed on the server and what not, before actualy entering the race? I've done searches and read the manuals but haven't found much about the topic. I've seen it has been requested but I don't know if it's actualy possible at the moment.
I've tried a G25 and there is no doubt about that!! However I've no good place to put a wheel in my place, so I'll trie with the mouse first, untill I'm seriously addicted and need to change to wheel
Hey Mille. I'm only playing for a few days now and already I'm thinking about changing from keys to mouse control. Having the throttle and brake on the mouse doesn't seem logical to me and I want them on the kb, like you recommend. However, do you have your gearchanges on the mouse buttons instead or also on the kb?
Hello everybody. I'm going to use this post for what it's for...to present myself.
I'm Eneko, a Dutch guy living in Spain and a friend of mine convinced me to start playing. I've been practicing for about three days now with the demo version and I totally suck!! This is some hard stuff!!
I'm currently playing with the keyboard and I'm hoping that buying me a wheel will make it a little easier. It will definitely make it more fun.
I totally love the community buy the way! People from everywhere. Very cool!
