It has been some while that you all have heard from me, Thats because i simply dont have any time left for VLFSDash to work on anymore.
Because of that i have decided to make the source public for everyone. You all can improve or add/edit new functions etc... It's the source of the latest version i had made version 0.2.2 that even has never been released. This version also implements VLFSDash beta hardware support.
VLFSDash is written with Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Enterprise.
This can be caused if the system is under heavy load..
I have noticed this on a slower sytem, when running vlfsdash only everything works fine, when a other heavy program was started vlfsdash started lagging.
Most new pc's dont have Parallel ports anymore.
A usb to serial converter cable is more usefull in that case.
With the hardware i made, you can connect a LCD with shows data(i also use now for debugging), connect a 7seg also (wich im implementing right now).
I am also busy working on a ethernet hardware version.. wich receives OutGauge data via Ethernet, so you have a standalone Outgauge receiver, wich does the same as mentioned above.. and can do a lot more
As promised, a little video showing the hardware + VLFSdash
The hardware used is a developmentboard for microcontrollers.
In real the hardware could be much smaller with less components.
I will be making a PCB, with a USB <-> RS-232 converter onboard with a micro controller.
There will be several outputs wich can be used, also extra outputs for future use.
The board will get its power supply via USB, wich provides enough power.
You can pass you're outgauge data straight away over the internet, no problemo..
Just fill in his IP and make sure he opens up the udp port in his Router and Windows firewall.. and voila
Well, you don't need to use a 8" monitor to get a optimum picture.
VLFSDash is designed for use with a resolution of 800x600 pixels.
So if you use VLFSDash on a secondary monitor, configure the monitor resolution to 800x600 and you have a perfect filled screen
The way i mentioned a 8" monitor, is that a Mini monitor 8" or 10" have best view on 800x600.
Resolutions higher than 800x600 on a mini monitor will give a compressed/distorted view.
I have some ideas to put time information on again a seperate screen(monitor).
This will only be intresting if you make a serious race sim with multiple monitors..
About the screen size en Border remove button.
VLFSDash has realy been designed to be used on a seperate monitor dedicated for vlfsdash.
When pressing the Remove Borders button, the form will be borderless and maximizes at the same time.
This to fill the screen.
With no maximizing, only the Form title bar will dissapear and the botton of the app will not be visible.
This button is of no use when using this app on a monitor wich contains several other applications..
Maybe in future this will be different.
But if you use VLFSdash on a seperate dedicated monitor or dont use the Remove border button.. all works fine.
I am writing a little app that receives LFS OutGauge data on UDP port xxxx, and re-sends the data back on a other self configurable ports/ip's.
So you can use LFS with other programs that need outgauge at the same time
The Quartz.ttf font is not properly installed in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder.
Or the font is not properly registered.
Tip: Uninstal VLFSDash, check if quartz.ttf exists in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder.
If so, manualy remove it..
Then restart pc, and re-install vlfsdash again.
Hi
No Runtime was needed, I only copied all needed files in the install folder not in system32 folder.
Only 1 file was needed to place in the system32 directory: MSSTDFMT.DLL
All other files where VB runtime files.
They where not needed, so I did not include them anymore in the installer package.
If you are using LFS + VLFSDash.
And running LFS fullscreen..
When you click a button on VLFSDash, LFS will instantly resize to a Framed window.
Wich typicaly is Windows behaviour..
So the answer is indeed no, Touchscreen as secondary monitor is not advisable..
Ofcourse this is not the case when you are using VLFSDash on a second PC as primary monitor..
