Hi Guys

It has been some while that you all have heard from me,
Thats because i simply dont have any time left for VLFSDash to work on anymore.

Because of that i have decided to make the source public for everyone.
You all can improve or add/edit new functions etc...
It's the source of the latest version i had made version 0.2.2 that even has never been released.
This version also implements VLFSDash beta hardware support.

VLFSDash is written with Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Enterprise.

>>> VLFSDash version 0.2.2 SOURCE <<<

Take good care of vlfsdash, and hope to see new features or debugged versions

Quote from fspecial :hi !!

ive installed the 0.2.1 ver on my pc(i dont have a monitor at the moment) folowing the steps in help box.

The leds, gears and the red shiftlight work fine.
kph,rpm and turbo pointers are lagy

Now when i change the upper leds to triangle mode the the rpm pointer has no lag but the others still have.

any ideas??
with previous versions i also have yhe same problem

btw great program,
i mean really great program!!

This can be caused if the system is under heavy load..
I have noticed this on a slower sytem, when running vlfsdash only everything works fine, when a other heavy program was started vlfsdash started lagging.

Quote from Crady :Well all versions worked well under XP. Now I switched to Vista 32, re - downloaded version 0.2.1, installed it and got this error:

Component "isAnalogLibrary.ocx" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Well I didn´t have this file in my system32 folder and copied it from my XP installation... but is does not work...

Any clue??

De-Install vlfsdash, and remove and manualy delete the vlfdash folder if still exists.

Then reboot pc, and re-install again.

The ocx files are installed in the application directory itself..

It is recommended to reboot after every de-installation, when installing a new version.

Quote from Swingal :i wanted to usie it but in lfs i get an error ... InSim : first byte in packet does not match size ... whats the problem?

No, Idea what could be wrong..
But VLFSDash is not using Insim at all..

It is only using the Outgauge packets.

Quote from Latanturle :Dear Erazotropa,

You are right, I just hope that you'll publish all schematics about this project which seems so promising - You are doing a fantastic work which sends to prehistoric times all that had been done before.

Let'go !

Yes, i will publish schematics and software when ready

I have taken another video of VLFSDash + RS-232 Hardware.
Now i have added a LCD display for showing Speed/RPM/Gear and ofcourse the indicator lights

Quote from Latanturle :Why don't you use with virtual dashboard, GI Rev Meter which can shows physically, with different leds a lot of parameters.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=13973&page=1

Most new pc's dont have Parallel ports anymore.
A usb to serial converter cable is more usefull in that case.

With the hardware i made, you can connect a LCD with shows data(i also use now for debugging), connect a 7seg also (wich im implementing right now).

I am also busy working on a ethernet hardware version.. wich receives OutGauge data via Ethernet, so you have a standalone Outgauge receiver, wich does the same as mentioned above.. and can do a lot more

Pictures will follow

As promised, a little video showing the hardware + VLFSdash

The hardware used is a developmentboard for microcontrollers.
In real the hardware could be much smaller with less components.

I will be making a PCB, with a USB <-> RS-232 converter onboard with a micro controller.
There will be several outputs wich can be used, also extra outputs for future use.
The board will get its power supply via USB, wich provides enough power.

Quote from Andy King :Hi Erazotropa,
Does the Port Forwarding utility let me add a normal IP of a mate and pass the info to his VDash if I wanted as this would be great in Endurance Racing so my team mate can see whats happening with car even if not allowed on Server to spec.

Can't it connect to both so we only need one program running instead of 2 or more to get whats needed.

You can pass you're outgauge data straight away over the internet, no problemo..
Just fill in his IP and make sure he opens up the udp port in his Router and Windows firewall.. and voila

Well, I have a totaly new feature working right now..

I have made it possible to get VLFSDash to send out all indicator light data out to the PC's serial port.

With some minor hardware (microcontroller) it is now possible to make hardware lights
I have made it with almost free hardware (sampling)

This is specialy intresting if you are making a Button box, and want the indicator lights next to the buttons..

I will make a video tonight and post it here
Tracks file not found!

Hi all,

I am setting up some hosts, but came across a big ?..

In the host CFG file, there is a possiblity to define if you want to use the tracklist or not..

The dedicated hosts are running from:

D:\DEDICATED\LFSDEDICATED\ and here are all the files located..

When I am setting the string /tracks=tracks.txt, it gives a error: "Tracks file not found"

The tracks.txt and lfs.exe and cfg files are all located in the same path..

Does anyone has an idea? i have alread tried /tracks=D:\DEDICATED\LFSDEDICATED\tracks.txt but this gives the same error..

Quote from Andy King :Hi All,
I have got LFSRelax and VDash working together now using Erazotropa's Port Forwarding Utility, thanks. Does the Port Forwarding utility let me add a normal IP of a mate and pass the info to his VDash if I wanted as this would be great in Endurance Racing so my team mate can see whats happening with car even if not allowed on Server to spec.

Some sugestions besides the maximise sugestions I have put forward...

1) Can VDash display the number of LAPS left in fuel tank. Like LFSRelax does, after completing your outlap, then a full Lap it calculates fuel used then tells you how many LAPS of fuel you have. Then let the user decide when the low fuel warning light shows in setup by number of Laps, Litres or Percentage left in tank.

2) Can we have an audiable bleep configurable in setup for max revs as we teach a lot of Rookies and it helps teaching with gear changes.

Fantastic programing Erazotropa its going to be the biz.

1) Sorry no, Vlfsdash only works with OutGauge Data not Insim data.
Maybe in the future I will make app, that show time/lap etc information.

2) Well I can take a look how to play a sample on the moment the shiftlight lights up..

Try this,

I made a little app (under development)

If you run this app localy all ip's must be 127.0.0.1

Quote from Andy King :Hi Erazotropa,
Yes so the VDash's gauges etc stay the same size just when maximised the grey (user definable colour) fills the rest of the screen around the gauges. This means we can use a whatever size moniter and then use the same monitor for other things rather than having to buy an 8" Monitor specifically for VDash.

Well, you don't need to use a 8" monitor to get a optimum picture.
VLFSDash is designed for use with a resolution of 800x600 pixels.

So if you use VLFSDash on a secondary monitor, configure the monitor resolution to 800x600 and you have a perfect filled screen

The way i mentioned a 8" monitor, is that a Mini monitor 8" or 10" have best view on 800x600.
Resolutions higher than 800x600 on a mini monitor will give a compressed/distorted view.

Quote from Andy King :Hi Erazotropa,
I don't think you understood what I meant, language barrier lol. No worries.

Ahh i see.

You mean you like to see all objects centered in the form. Without rescaling..

Well, I am a little stuck with that.. i cant seem to find how to do that.
If someone has a suggestion, please let me know.

Quote from Andy King :Hi,
Thankyou, any ideas of a time scale as would luv to add this to my SimCockpit but also need LFSRelax running.

Also I am struggling with the remove borders function, everytime I remove the border VDash moves to top left corner of my monitor, also it doesn't save its last position when you re-open it which would be nice.

The Gauges are perfect in size so perhaps when you maximise it it could just fill the area around the VDash with the grey background colour which is user definable anyway, that would mean it could be used on any size monitor.

Thanks for the time and effort

Hi,

I have some ideas to put time information on again a seperate screen(monitor).
This will only be intresting if you make a serious race sim with multiple monitors..

About the screen size en Border remove button.

VLFSDash has realy been designed to be used on a seperate monitor dedicated for vlfsdash.
When pressing the Remove Borders button, the form will be borderless and maximizes at the same time.
This to fill the screen.
With no maximizing, only the Form title bar will dissapear and the botton of the app will not be visible.

This button is of no use when using this app on a monitor wich contains several other applications..

Maybe in future this will be different.
But if you use VLFSdash on a seperate dedicated monitor or dont use the Remove border button.. all works fine.

Quote from Andrei221 :can you do this for PDA's?

Affortunaly no.
Because I see no point in watching a little palmsized screen. Sorry.

I am planning to make a version special for widescreen monitors.
With all gauges and indicator special aligned for this 16:10 mode.

Quote from Andy King :Hi All,
Has anybody got LFS Dashboard and LFS Relax to work at the same time. Both use Outgauge but in LFS Relax's cfg you can disable Outgauge. If anyone has can they post how they configured both programs.

Thanks

I am writing a little app that receives LFS OutGauge data on UDP port xxxx, and re-sends the data back on a other self configurable ports/ip's.
So you can use LFS with other programs that need outgauge at the same time

Quote from ramdonice :i had to reinstall my 2nd pc and now i have a problem, the writting is bigger than normal, what fonts are used and any ideas what it could be?

The Quartz.ttf font is not properly installed in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder.

Or the font is not properly registered.

Tip: Uninstal VLFSDash, check if quartz.ttf exists in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder.
If so, manualy remove it..
Then restart pc, and re-install vlfsdash again.

Quote from Ripley :Did you find some time to fix those things, suggested by JackCY ?

Hi

No Runtime was needed, I only copied all needed files in the install folder not in system32 folder.
Only 1 file was needed to place in the system32 directory: MSSTDFMT.DLL

All other files where VB runtime files.
They where not needed, so I did not include them anymore in the installer package.

If you are using LFS + VLFSDash.
And running LFS fullscreen..
When you click a button on VLFSDash, LFS will instantly resize to a Framed window.
Wich typicaly is Windows behaviour..

So the answer is indeed no, Touchscreen as secondary monitor is not advisable..

Ofcourse this is not the case when you are using VLFSDash on a second PC as primary monitor..
