They dont. They are just designing with touch in mind. Previous versions of Windows were designed with touch as an aftertought. Basically it just emulated a mouse. Now it will feature multitouch support allowing for the operating system to sense two inputs at once. Think iPhone.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :I wouldn't see why not. But don't blame me if it doesn't.

LongJohn, I'm assuming that Vista drivers will work with Windows 7? :o

Probably. Like I said before, Im still running XP. Never upgraded to Vista.

However, I have heard that 7 has some new built in driver libraries that makes more stuff plug'n'play. Windows update will also download drivers for some devices too. For instance, my linksys wireless pci card installed automatically. Not sure if this stuff happens on Vista already though.

Im using the 64 bit version BTW

I just tested it and it seemed to work fine.

Im running Windows 7 dual boot with XP on seperate hard drives. I just copied my LFS directory (didnt want to accidently lock the XP version back) and it ran fine. I didn't unlock it or really test it thoroughly, but it loaded the Formula BMW on Blackwood fine and ran at ~85 fps. I drove with my mouse and keyboard so Im not sure if my DFP or any other wheel would work either.

Quote from Hyperactive :It isn't said anywhere the car needs to be stopped to change the mapping. Being smart, if possible, you would try to time it for it to be switched off into first corner .

A source:

Quote from Autosport :The move to impose a 90-second lockout on engine mapping changes at the start of a race will be enough to prevent teams trying to simulate launch control.

Quote from Autosport :However, amid some early suspicions that teams were experimenting with ways to simulate launch control, the FIA has imposed the 90-second lockout - forcing teams to stick to the same engine mapping setting for effectively the first lap of the race.

Quote from Hyperactive :Massa's spin on the first lap might have been caused by the new ecu. So far what I've read, the ecu has a launch mode which, when enabled, stays on for 90 seconds after which it automatically disables itself. Maybe it disabled itself when Massa was coming out from T1 and caused that abrupt power peak? If it was Massa's own fault it was really bad driving, losing it in T1 like that

The teams can put several custom engine maps onto the ECU. You could make an engine map that retards the engine in a manner that would simulate launch control. To stop this the FIA has made it so that the engine map can be changed for 90 seconds after the car starts moving. So you could still use such a map, but you would be stuck with it for 90 seconds, basically a full lap.

I think Massa's spin was caused by his right foot!

Quote from Lautsprecher[NOR] :A winamp2-skin shouldn't be to hard. It's all just a bunch of BMP's and a couple of text-files.
I don't really see how an LFS-skin would look like though.

I have thought about doing it before but kinda ran into this same problem. There really isn't an LFS theme that can just be applied. I wasn't feeling creative enough to make something myself.

One idea I just had was to make it resemble lfsworld.

Quote from ronfar623 :Using SoftTH 1.04 Beta, LFS S2 Patch V.

All readings taken on single player, Blackwood GP Track, clear day, no AI cars, internal (drivers) view in the LX6, AA and AF both set to 0.

All displays set to 1280x1024 = 14fps
All displays set to 1024x768 = 22fps
All displays set to 800x600 = 31fps
All displays set to 640x480 = 37fps

Center display at 1024x768, side displays at 640x480 = 30fps
Center display at 800x600, side displays at 640x480 = 36fps

System specs in case you are curious:
Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton 1.833GHz CPU
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe nForce 2 Motherboard
1GB DDR 333MHz (PC 2700) RAM
nVidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB AGP video card (dual VGA out)
nVidia GeForce FX5500 128MB PCI video card (single VGA out)

Hope that helps!

Does anyone know if these frame rates would be limited totally by the pci transfer rate, or would there be improvement on an overall faster system?

But I guess the difference between a PCI card and a cheap PCI-E card isnt really enough to bother with finding out.

Kegetys,
Are you planning on making SoftTH compatible with monitors of varying aspect ratio? If you're considering it, heres another user that would be happy if you did!

I think its cool when I see someone posting about SoftTH on other forums, like widescreengaming, because I say to myself "hey he did it for LFS and I play LFS, so i kinda know him..."

Quote from Sketchyrollin564 :Under the ajust axis stuff, you can see the bar move when i touch the pedals, but its the horizontal axis bar, not the green and red ones on the bottom. Those wont move at all.

So the horizontal "slider" bars work fine? Do they go from the very right edge to the very left smoothly as you press the pedal down?

What about if you go to the controller in "game controllers" within the control panel? Do you see full axis movement there?

Make sure that you have tried reassigning the throttle and brake to the appropriate axis within LFS.

Quote :Also, when i let go of the gas pedal, you could still see a tiny bit of the green bar at the bottom.

This shouldnt be anything to worry about. Its just part of the anti stall/auto clutch.

Not really sure what the problem is though. Seems very odd that the axis work fine on the slider bar, but not once they are assigned.

Basically, someone modified LFS to change the car model. The cars were the same as one of the current car (a demo car I think). So nothing exciting, just some superficial changes.

I have no idea where you can get this mod, nor do I remember whether it was considered illegal by the devs and mods.

1998 British GP

Quote from www.grandprix.com :Schumacher pulled away and then received a signal to indicate that he had been given a penalty for overtaking under yellow flags (which prohibit such manoeuvres) during the Safety Car period. The issuing of the penalty, coming so late in the day, was bungled by the stewards and the Ferrari tacticians took advantage of this by ignoring the order and bringing Michael in on the last lap. He therefore won the race in the pit lane when he was coming in for the penalty, which could not now be carried out since the race was over. It was thus impossible for the stewards to take away the win. The stewards had to withdraw the penalty and they later handed in their licences.

Joining a race in progress should not be considered bad form or hazardous. As long as you stay out of the way of those in the race, I see no reason why you shouldnt be allowed to put in a few warmup laps.

Additionally, I'm not even sure that no mid race join would prevent wreckers from repairing and wrecking more. I believe it only prevents you from joining from spectator mode, while you can still join from the pits.

Quote :Can I use a PC steering wheel on the PS2? I'm interested in buyig a logitech momo force feedback wheel, mostly for PC games, but I'd like to use it on my PS2 racing games too. I have the new slim model PS2.

--Hepnotic

... [P]retty much any USB steering wheel will work with PS2 racing games that support the Logitech wheel. However... Firing Squad reports than Gran Turismo 4 is hardcoded to be incompatible with any wheel that is not the Logitech PS2-specific wheel. That includes the Logitech MOMO Force PC wheel you're looking at, meaning that if you buy it, the wheel likely will not work with Gran Turismo 4 (even though it will work with other PS2 racers). Dunno if this same compatibility issue will carry over to the US version, but my guess is that it will.

It works with some games, but not others. Unfortunately, GT4 is one of those that it doesnt work with. Seems to me that this may have been intentional to sway people to buy the Driving Force Pro.

I was just reading that section too and was about to come recomend it to you. All he is really saying there is that he isnt really sure that rolling resistance is linear in nature and that his value for a Corvette isnt from a scientific source.

http://www.miata.net/sport/Physics/

That is a good series of articles on the physics of racing.

Im not sure if it discusses that in particular (I havent read them all), but as my understanding goes weight affects top speed very little, or not at all. Greater weight will cause acceleration to be much slower, but the top end will still be there.

edit
to add a little bit more after reading:
http://www.miata.net/sport/Physics/06-Speed.html

Basically top speed is a function of air resistance, rolling resistance, and horspower. As long as the hp produced is greater than the hp needed to overcome the resistance of the air, friction at the wheels, and internal friction in the drive shaft, wheel bearings etc, you will continue to accelerate.

F(net of force produced at wheels and force of the resistance)= mass * acceleration
F/m = a

So... as long as the net force is positive, acceleration will be positive no matter the mass. If mass is greater, the acceleration will be smaller, but it will still be positive.

A car has a top speed because the resistance is proportional to the square of the speed, and at the top end of a cars gearing, its power will probably be decreasing as velocity increases. So that means that Fnet is getting very small which means that a gets very very small to the point that the car seems not to accelerate.

Of course, I may understand this wrong. Your question has caused me to go look it up and try to strengthen my understanding.
