Get a mountain bike! It's as close as I can get to motor racing for such a small budget and bloody good fun. Then there's the sudden influx of fresh air and fitness to get used to.

Oh yeah and set up is important - tyres, brakes, gears etc all make a different and you spend your time managing the transfer of your weight, same as cars really

As an aside: does anybody know whether there are basic set up servers, e.g. force everyone to use RACE_S? I don't have the time to tinker with set ups and am not that keen on nicking them from others. As it is I tend to race in the midfield trying to be consistent, but never particularly racing with anybody.

Hey,

Much appreciation for your work here. I used LfsLib for my final project in uni - trying to automate car set up (on a restricted domain).

Ok sorry I've found out a fix for this - I need to use /cancel after /end, then /clear will work as expected.

I'm not sure if this still counts as a bug or not.

Hi, I've been updating an InSim app which runs AI races and uses them to collect data. It uses the following commands to launch the race:
  • /end (when a race is in progress)
  • /sp
  • /car XX
  • /setup SET
  • /track TRACK
  • /clear
  • /ai X (however many times)
  • /laps
  • /start random
  • /ready (to go)
The problem is with the /clear command. This works fine before any races have been started, and also when a race is ended by pressing Esc, then clicking End Race.

Basically it seems like the problem is caused by ending a race with /end and then trying to use /clear. What happens is that one car is removed and the race immediately restarts.

I have verified this without using insim, the following steps ought to recreate it:
  • launch lfs
  • single player - apparently any track/car
  • /clear
  • /ai (a few times)
  • /ready
  • /end
  • /clear
Hope that's covered it!
Cheers,

Omar

This is really interesting, I've had a quick go but don't have anything much yet, still trying to handle the first bend and the downhill left before the motorway :s

I definitely agree with maximising the exit, I find it's one simple thing to focus on when learning tracks that gives a lot of benefit.

I think that Nigel Mansell used to concentrate on his corner entry, with the view that if it is correct then the rest of the corner will follow. It's definitely worked for me in the past tho, generally I'll enter a corner a little fast by mistake, but somehow it tucks into the apex a little better and I've learnt a new line
